GT: Spurs (29-20) at Lakers (39-13)

Post#1 » by Nolan » Mon Feb 8, 2010 10:49 pm

When: 10:30 PM ET, February 8, 2010
Where: STAPLES Center, Los Angeles, CA

Huge game tonight against the Lakers. We beat them last month and another win over the Lakers would do wonders for us. It sounds like Andrew Bynum is going to be out for this and Kobe may miss the game too with an ankle injury. So we need to take advantage of that and a get a win over the best team in the west.

Duncan, Hill and Parker are going to have to play well if we want to win this one.

Go Spurs!!

I am losing faith in this team... a move or two needs to be made - yes, or TWO

The Spurs continue to fail at basketball. I honestly can't believe how much Richard Jefferson sucks. Even the biggest critics of the trade could not have predicted this.

Count it as another prime opportunity wasted for the Spurs, who within the past nine days also dropped games to Denver without Carmelo Anthony and to Portland without Brandon Roy.

“It’s about mental toughness and physical toughness and passion, a group jelling together and playing together,” Popovich said. “And we’re not doing it.”

Asked if he’d pressed that point to his team this season, Popovich said, “five or six times.”

“For some reason, I’m not getting through to this group,” he said.

This is the lowest point of the season IMO. If we can't beat the Lakers without Kobe and Bynum then what hope do we have? Ironically, this is the most talented team we've had on paper for years.

The best we can hope for this season is to pull a '95 Rockets and bust some ass without HCA. The difference being was that that team had heart.

It had to end sometime I guess. I just didn't think it would be this year.

No one's really talked about it, but despite shooting 40%, Pau really put the hurt to the Spurs. 21, 19 and 8? Really?

Odom played really well, too. Embarrassed Tim on that one play where Tim jumped to try and deflect a pass and Lamar just drove past him to the cup.

It was actually a pretty good game for San Antonio's defense as far as limiting L.A. to under 44% FG, though they got burned from downtown. Gasol and Shannon Brown were inefficient, Artest didn't look great (4-11 inside the arc, though he was 2/5 from downtown), but the bench hit a bunch of shots, Odom looked great and Gasol made contributions elsewhere.

On the Spurs' side of things, I'm not entirely certain how Tim got 0 FTAs; I noticed someone say Tim wasn't posting a lot, was that the case?

RJ and Hill blew and the team lost the rebounding battle despite Tim's better efforts.

I'm really shocked that Tim had 0 FTAs. That was pretty much a death knell, aside from Hill and RJ shooting so poorly.

Yeah this loss was very dissapointing but maybe it forces Pop to make some tough decisions like.

At some point we have to
1. play Manu and Tim longer minutes.
2. decide on a starting 5. consistency will help RJeff
3. put Tim on the low block more often

Forget about scoring... that isn't a problem. Duncan for all intents will have so so games at times in the regular season just because he isn't 25 nor 28 anymore.

The two threes that Artest made to stop the quick run we had was all on Jefferson. He is literally a cancer that spreads. His defensive **** ups put so many other people in bad positions..

That is what is really wrong with the Spurs. He doesn't get back on D, doesn't know when to hedge on screens, and doesn't hold himself accountable. I mean for fucckssake, if you are going to suck on one end of the floor, than make sure you are a demigod on the other and he just isn't.

+1 Its a combo of no legit 4/5 and lack of team D starting with RJ's **** D.
