Gomes-to-BOS Trade Hope?

Advanced scouting?

Scouts for the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Sacramento Kings are listed as in attendance for Friday's game (they had seats tagged for them at courtside, at least). The Kings presence makes sense, as Boston opens the second half of the season there on Feb. 16 to open a four-game road trip. The Timberwolves, however, have concluded both two-game series with the Nets and Celtics. All of which is sure to open the floodgates of trade rumors this time of year (a simple mention on Twitter elicited a handful of "Ryan Gomes back to Boston!?" remarks).

Gomes would be a great fit in Boston, he'd be a great fit on any team. But, I don't see what Boston can offer the Wolves that would convince them to dump him.

The two trades I've advocated are:

Gomes for Tony Allen (exp) + Bill Walker + 2010 BOS 1st

Gomes for Scalabrine (exp) + 2011 BOS 1st.

At a minimum, a first could probably be sold for $3 mil, but with the BOS picks, an injury to a star could drop them dramatically, particularly next year. Neither will be in the lottery, but then again, Gomes is not worth a lottery pick. Its another asset - another arrow to put in Kahn's quiver.

I'm not sure what the point of scouting any of those players would be. If they were at the Nets-Boston game, I think a trade with the Nets is more likely, perhaps for CDR.

i thought NJ held Roberts in very high regard, like Gibson is to CHI what CDR is to Jersey regards.

Recently it just seems they've pulled the plug on him. No matter what he does his minutes decrease whether it's mistakes or brilliance

With the 3 offers listed here, here is my preferential order of the deals:

1. Allen / Walker / 2011 1st - I'm pretty sure Tony Allen and Al Jefferson are good friends from their days in Boston.
2. Douglas-Roberts - Another wing our staff could work with and help develop.
3. Scalabrine / 2010 1st - Scalabrine is obviously the worst of the 4 players listed here, and this year's pick will likely be better than next year.

none of those players really excite me though. Allen is a train wreck, Scalabrine is even less servicable than Madsen was. CDR is a questionmark to me, I know next to nothing about his game as I've never ever seen him play a game, so that may just be my ignorance and a landslide deal for us.

and more late round draftpicks just seem to be pilling up adding more young, in-experienced players we'd have to find time to develope. i feel the wolves are fast approaching the point where they are going to start to need servicable bodies rather than future talent. If a stud is attainable in this draft, it should be the turning point.

Its still all about acquiring assets at this point in the rebuilding process. Gomes is too good to not keep around, but not good enough to warrant the remaing years on his deal IMO.

Gomes has been pretty disappointing this season, I don't think he would garner much interest from the Celtics.

Boston's pick would be nice if they'd give it up. They'd have the 25th pick now, but their centerpieces are showing their age. Ray-ray's not putting up numbers like he used to, and KG's having trouble staying healthy. Another late first rounder isn't too exciting alone, but it would give Kahn some more draft day leverage in a draft where he's openly talked about moving up. 3 picks in the 15-25 range should net a pretty nice pick in return.

Agreed. "Scouting" the Celtics can be done by having them pdf copies of contracts over.

Bill Walker would be kind of fun to see. He was pretty sweet in his early days in KSt. He is a decent frame although 6'6 isn't that big for a SF. But he def is that athlete we need and hopefully his injuries are behind him.

This is about the 8th time a report like this has come out and nothing has happened yet. I think this is more just about scouting players for future reference, and for Kahn's amazing database that he said he was going to build at his initial press conference. I wouldn't read too much into it yet.

What's the advantage of watching a game in person for scouting purposes instead of League Pass or pie? I mean isn't it like basically saying, "Hey, we want that guy so much we're willing to send scouts over here." At least wear a fake mustache.

Alright, just pay me 100 bucks and I'll tell you to draft Wall first or Turner with the second pick. Taylor doesn't need me to scout games, although he could pay for my all expense paid trip to Hawaii and call it even.
