Why we should do the Cleveland trade
The Pacers need to stop waiting and trying to get more for Troy Murphy. We are not going to get a 1st round pick, plus a young player. Now, I have watched Hickson for a long time, even when he was at NC State. He is a freak athletically. He has good post movies, still improving those. He can hit the jumper, but also rebound and defend. He is very young still too. Against Phoenix he had like 26 points or something. He knows how to score. We are not going to be winning anytime soon, so why not trade Murphy and get something worth while like Hickson? Now for a trade to work it is going to be something like this:
Cleveland Trades:
Zydrunas Illgauskas
JJ Hickson
Indiana trades:
Troy Murphy
Travis Diener
2nd round pick.
Now our lineup would be:
Hibbert/S. Jones
Hickson/Hansbrough
Granger/D. Jones
Rush/Dunleavy
Watson/Price.
One of ther player we should trade is Ford if we can find a suitor. Your thoughts?

Even if we have to make an agreement to buy out Z and let him go back to Cleveland I still think this is too good of a deal to pass up.

I agree, cap savings+young big man with some upside = good deal for Pacers.

Cleveland won't give Hickson for Murphy though. That is the problem. If we wanted to give away Hickson then we would already have Jamison.
I don't see Cleveland dealing with Indy at all.

Also consider trading TJ Ford and Dunleavy to Celtics for Ray Allen. Cap relief next year, can teach Rush some veteran skills, sood looker room and community guy. Celtics want a real backup to Rondo.
It makes them younger NOW.
As for Cleveland, keep up the pressure. They really think Murphy can support a Championship. I like the report that other teams have interest in Murph so that Cleveland keeps ansy. Hickson is a piece we need. I do not think a second round pick to the Cavs is any bait. Would we considering swapping first round picks or just go straight up with NO picks involved?

Trading Murphy for Hickson doesnt make us any better this year or next. I think hold on to Murphy for another yr

Any trade we make for Murphy isn't going to be one to "make us better". It will be to help us financially and HOPEFULLY get something (young player w/potential or draft picks) to build on.

The article lists the kings and bucks being interested.
Any ideas what scenarios can go down in those deals?

With the Kings I don't imagine us getting any of Evans, Casspi, Martin, Thompson, or Hawes. That basically leaves us with Udrih, Udoka, Nocioni, and a couple of others. A few of those are bad contracts, namely Udrih and Nocioni, but with an abundance of wings I don't see Udoka being an attractive piece for us.

Re: Why we should do the Cleveland trade
The Bucks are shopping their expiring contracts: Luke Ridnour, Hakim Warrick, Joe Alexander, Kurt Thomas, and Fransico Elson. Not much for you to get excited about, other than they all expire after this season. I don't see the Bucks offering a pick or prospect to a Murphy trade, unless we would get a younger player such as Brandon Rush included.
Trade S. Jackson soon. NJ seems like a nice place for him.

I can't see us dealing with Sacramento, but something with Milwaukee would make sense if all we want are some expirings. I'd deal with the Bucks as a last resort if something with the Cavs cannot be worked out.

Kings would want more for Thompson.

I personally wouldn't make that trade even with Hickson.
I see a LOT of Cavs on FSN Ohio, and I think Cleveland is waaaaay overrating the kid--I mean we're not talking Tim Duncan or Kevin Garnett here, folks--and Murphy always gets unaccountably underrated for some reason I can't fathom. If Cleveland is dumb enough to think this "might be, maybe, could be" is more valuable than a proven double-double guy who just might well be the final piece to bring Cleveland a title, and whose contract expires next year to boot, then IMO they are being penny wise and very dollar foolish. So go get Jamieson--I don't think Hickson would make us significantly better either now or in the future anyway. Hell, Solo Jones might be as good or better if that dumbass O'Brien would give him playing time to develop...

Re: Why we should do the Cleveland trade
You are 100% correct. I mean, in the past month or so, i've seen people on this board throw around names such as Jermaine O'Neal or even Kevin Garnett when describing JJ Hickson. Which i don't think there is any way he develops into that. Some Cavs fans even throw around the "untouchable" word with Hickson. He's a solid player, who has had some very nice games. He would be a nice PF for the Pacers because we lack someone like that.... someone to bang downlow and be a inside presence. But, he's not all-star good and probably never will be.

Danny Ferry is not trading J.J. Hickson to any team. Lebron James said J.J. must stay, period.
The trade is Ilgauskas for Murphy straight up and Ilgauskas gets waived and re-signs with Cleveland.
Larry Bird will do it to get Murphy off the team and get rid of his salary from next years payroll.

Re: Why we should do the Cleveland trade
Cleveland fan I assume? Because I don't think any Pacers fans or even management are interested in paying a player $8 million to not play for us so we don't have to pay a player $11 million to put up 14 and 10. If nothing else, Murphy helps bring the younger guys along. And if we're going to trade for cap space, it's going to be with Sacramento where we get a guy that would at least play for us this year and we don't give a good player away to a division rival. Somebody needs to take the homer glasses off...

The only way I do the deal of Murphy to Cavs is for Z, and either Hickson or a #1 pick plus $3 million in cash. I might consider doing it for Z, and a #2 plus the cash, but I want Z to agree to take $3 million as his buy out. He can then go back to the Cavs if he wants and get paid whatever. But someone correct me if I'm wrong on this but the season is 52-53 games gone don't we only have to pay him (Z) the prorated salary for 30 games or so? If so the $3 million is pretty close to that. Now the problem is that if we trade Murphy with Foster and Hans out who is gonna play PF? McBob, Granger, Solo Jones? I'm ok with that but that's what we are looking at, it gets thin at PF is Murph is gone and no PF coming to us.
