Kind of off topic but...

Can someone explain to me why the situation with 2010 free agents is differnet than the year McGrady and Hill signed in Orlando? Why is everyone saying so-so is staying put cause his team can offer more. Wasn't that the case when McGrady and Hill forced laughable(at the time) sign and trades by threatening to take less? If it worked then why is 2010 different? Not suggesting I think anyone is leaving, I'm just curious what has changed.

Different CBA.

Plus, the matching salary component of the previous CBA was different, and the dynamics changed when Orlando signed two free agents.

Swinging the Grant Hill deal meant they didn't have any players left to give us.

Part of the changes made to the new CBA is because of situations like this.

The Cavs brought in Shaq added Parker, and are still looking to improve the squad by moving expiring deals.

The Raps brought in Turk, and shuffled most of the roster finally giving Bosh not one quality back-up but two.

Miami has the weather, and that's awesome but aside from that opting to pull a Knicks and trying to keep him under the concept that we "might" be able to sign someone this offseason...

Dont get me wrong I enjoy good weather but I thought all the New Jersey kids flocked to Miami for the partying. Not my idea of paradise.

I don't get it though. Miami has close to 53 million before even coming into the tax. They will have close to 65 million coming off the books at the end of this season. I understand Wade wanting to win now, but if Miami plays their cards right, they could be back to winning in 2 years.

There isn't anything in the new CBA which prevents the same situation from occurring. The difference is that McGrady was set on going to Orlando because he missed his family. There isn't a similar situation now with guys wanting to go to a particular city except if Lebron and Amare say decided they want to go to NJ.
