Would You Deal for Amar'e?
Alright, STAT is a hot name right now on the trading block, and I was wondering what NJN fans though about putting in a serious bid for him. I have devised a 3-way deal in TradeChecker, and I wanted to get your feedback. Here it a thread I made on the Trades and Transactions board of the deal:
Nets, Suns and Grizzlies
We may have to include Dallas' 1st-rounder, but I think it's a worthwhile deal, and it doesn't impact our salary cap severely. We would still have more than enough room to sign a max FA. Alright, fire away.

In all honesty, I wouldn't give up all that for Amare/fillers who probably will bout out of the league within 3 years.

Re: Would You Deal for Amar'e?
Honestly I think Memphis would have to throw in a pick DEN or LA and we would throw in the Dallas pick both going to the Suns for them to bite. Also I don't think we can still offer another max contract if we did this (I could be wrong but I think we would have to dump Harris for expirings then we may have enough room. Really I don't think STAT puts us over the top.
Harris
Turner
T. Will
STAT
Lopez
Is that a contender ehh, maybe. He has been underachieving this year and will be 29 next year I believe.
If we land Wall, trade Harris for a good player and a rookie deal and a pick, then trade for Amare, and then still have enough to make a run at LBJ or Wade then fine but I don't think we can, so I say no, let him go to the Heat or Rockets.
Wall
?/Insert C.Lee type player here
LBJ
STAT
Lopez
^^^^ For that team there yes but I think we have to wait until the offseason.
I would rather do Dooling/CDR for Memphis 1st./expiring and get another late lotto pick and go from there. STAT gets us into the playoffs but ruins our flexibility. Won't do it for a 1st round exit.

Why does Memphis get such a sweet deal?
I know it doesn't cost any game-changing players, but since I doubt it maintains max cap space, I'm not giving up 6 players just to give Amare a MAX deal.

Honestly, I'd rather take the chance and wait on Amare. I really am not in the mood to do anything hasty right now since we're so terrible. I honestly don't think Danny Ainge is a great GM, but I'm gonna take a cue on how he worked and ended up with KG and Ray Allen. Boston wasn't as bad as we were, but they were pretty putrid too. We DO have young players/picks other teams want. I would be fine drafting Wall, pulling a draft night deal for another solid player in exchange for Harris/fillers/picks, then doing a sign and trade or something later in the offseason.
That's my plan of attack right now...unless another Vince Carter scenario falls into our lap of course.

Honestly, I've cooled on Amare as well.
Based on the talk in the past couple weeks about the unwillingness of the Suns and others to offer Amare that big contract, I think it'll be a lot easier to get him to come here this summer than I previously thought. No need to rush into this one IMO.

You can have Beasley. Give me TWill, Yi, Simmons and a 1st. Yi is trash in your offense, because he isn't a part of it. Harris is a SUPER ball hog. I watched you guys for the past few weeks and Yi might go 8 mins without touching the ball on a designed play. We will turn him into a Boris Diaw, but bettter.
Beasley is an overrated slow turd! This Suns fan doesn't want him. Btw, Amare turned 27 in Nov.

noooooo
we could end up signing him in the off-season without giving up any young players.
why do it now?

Good question.
One, we don't have enough capspace to sign two max FAs, and Amar'e would not be my first choice to pursue. Two, although it is a sweetened deal, we only take on about $7mil in additional 1'0 capspace. That means we WOULD have capspace for another max FA.
Basically, it boils down to which lineup you'd rather have:
Harris - (Wall) - LeTravalier - Stoudemire - Lopez
Hudson - Williams - Griffin - FA - (Jordan)
or
Harris - (Wall) - LeTravalier - Jianlian - Lopez
Dooling - Lee - Roberts - (Brackins) - (Jordan)
We could add a Salmons-type role-player to our roster with the remaining capspace we'd have, but Salmons and our menagerie of youngsters will never equal the impact of a guy like Amar'e. Just my opinion.

i realistically only see Bosh or Amare coming, but i wouldn't trade to get amare...bosh yes but why not just wait to sign someone

Bosh is getting the max from Tor. Why do you think it is rumored Wade will leave. Get him while you can.

Re: Would You Deal for Amar'e?
If Amare signs with the Cavs, you could finally put a nail in the coffin to the Nets (or any team) getting LeBron. That guy probably won't be leaving for a while. Then again, Amare and Shaq didn't work well the first time and if Amare leaves, would LeBron stay there?

Re: Would You Deal for Amar'e?
I honestly think that if the Cavs get Amar'e they should trade Shaq, because like you said Shaq and Amar'e didn't work before and that was in an uptempo system it's not going to work in the Cavs slower system.
The Cavs would be much better playing Amar'e and Varejao together as Varejao is a pretty elite rebounder while Amar'e is not...

Re: Would You Deal for Amar'e?
I'm not keen on CLE using Amar'e and Varejao on the floor together. In my mind, it seems they would get in each other's way.
It might be better that we remain quiet on the trading front until the draft lottery has taken place. but I won't rule out a surprise deal from Prokhorov before the trade deadline. He may not officially be the owner, but he's pulling the strings.

With 15 hours until the trade deadline, does anyone care to revisit this issue?
