Who are the elite big men?

Everyone says we need a big man that can defend the paint and still help on offense. Who is that big man? Who is out there that would put us over the top? Obviously some are not available.

Howard *obviously not available
Bosh *possible this offseason as he is a FA, trade very unlikely
Al Jefferson *not available... has monster games against the Lakers
Camby? *defensively makes us better... or does he? I looked at his stats against the Lakers... not so good.
Stoudemire? *I'm not a big fan... doesn't play good against physical bigs
Kaman? surprisingly efficient this year... *I doubt he is available

Just saying what we need is one thing, but showing a plausible solution is another. I'd like to see some options.....

Biedrens, Camby, Dalambert, Illgustus, all better than Memo in helping the Jazz beat Lakers. KOC just needs to decide quick whether the Jazz are looking to the future with the NYK pick or trying to win it all this year and trade the NYK pick with Memo for someone like Biedrens

After looking at the stats Biedrens nor Camby are better then Okur against the Lakers. Dalembert only faced them once so that is tough to make an opinion on, Ilgauskus is less effective then Shaq if you watch those games. I don't feel we are better off with any of them. Maybe a short spell of Shaq, but he's not worth his money.

From the stats, I come to conclude that whoever they face, the Lakers frontline is a tough matchup. LOL.

I can't help but think Chris Bosh is the games best big man. His stats are unreal and unlike Dwight Howard, Bosh actually has post moves. He can score with the best. I would really like to see him go to the Jazz or Bulls (my 2 favorite teams) this offseason. I really dont want to see him end up in Miami with Wade. That duo would be unstoppable.

Then be happy we have Okur. You are comparing the 1-3 games, also you are forgetting that the jazz need a defensive center to not only defend other centers, but to stop penetration from the wings and guards. Intimidation is a big factor, shot blockers only block a few shots, but alter many more of them. If you really believe that Okur is on par with Camby (a few years removed from dpoy) defensively, then there really is no point, as you would probably find that D Howard is an inferior defender as well.

The point of this is not saying that Okur or Camby are better defensively overall, but showing that Camby is not better against the Lakers. I do feel that overall Camby is a much better defender, offensively Okur is much stronger. But the buzz has been the need for a big guy so we can compete with the Lakers. None of these guys are worth more then what we have against the Lakers just going off what this years stats are. True stats do not tell the whole story, but that's all we have to go off of.

I am starting to think you need 2 bigs out there to stop them. What if we could get Camby or someone and play them with Okur at PF?

I could be wrong here but I think Okur mostly guarded Bynum in the first two games this year. I think it was mostly Boozer and Millsap on Gasol. Not that it matters much because Gasol shoots over 70% against the Jazz no matter who guards him. I wouldn't be surprised if his collective percentage against the Jazz since he became a Laker is around 75%. On the flip side our bigs shooting percentages really drops against the Lakers. I am not sure why so many people think we need a shooting guard more than a defensive center. Im sorry but with Gasol shooting 70-75 percent a game your just not going to win many games against that team. I was hoping we would have gotten Heywood but missed out on that deal. I am not sure who is available that will help defensively but I definitely think that is the way to go.
