DWade to Raps - Is It Possible?

Post#1 » by lobosloboslobos » Fri Feb 12, 2010 1:47 pm

What I'd like to know is from a financial perspective, what would the implications be of DWade coming to T.O.? In other words, is it even remotely possible?

Presumably it would mean goodbye to Calderon, so while we'd be adding what 18m? with DWade we'd be saving half of that by shipping out Jose, assuming it was an S&T. What else would have to happen for DWade to land here or is it just totally unrealistic to even consider?

DWade seems like a reasonably smart and cool guy, and I could imagine him saying :

up and coming team that could be a dynasty if I sign, check
team run by a GM with a solid reputation for treating people well, check
team is not filled with ****, check
safest city in the NBA where you can actually have a bit of a normal life when you want it, check
great partying, check
great fans, check
plenty of black folks, check

Basically TDot has it all.

So...is it possible?

It's totally unrealistic to even consider. Miami wouldn't sign and trade him here, he's not walking away from all that money, it's highly unlikely he would even want to come here, and we don't have the room to sign him outright, so it's not happening.

Wade already told the Heat organization that he will sign in Toronto in the offseason.

Funny thing is even if it was at all possible, the American media would laugh off at the very idea. "Those silly Canadians drinking the funny maple syrup"

Yes, I went to a delicious chinese food restaurant last night and my fortune cookie said, verbatim, "Dwayne Wade will join the Toronto Raptors this summer. STDs will increase 400% on the team during the coming season."

It's absolutely possible, but I don't think it's probable.

Wade will probably re-sign with the heat, not resign from them. Of course, if he does leave Miami, Toronto has a solid chance - but that's all it is, a chance.

Because Toronto will be over cap, a S&T for Wade will have to see as much or more salary leaving TO as we'd be paying Wade. Think Turk + Jose. Or Jose, Amir, and Banks. Or Turk and Banks.

Miami would not help Wade come here. So I cant see it happening.

Miami will do whatever Wade asks, as long as they get back something they can use in return instead of losing him for nothing. If they don't facilitate a sign-and-trade, he can play the "I'll just sign with Chicago for the max and you'll get nothing" card.

Edit: Not saying I think he'll land here. But I do think he's in the drivers seat.

Miami would trade him to Western conference team if they had to.
This includes S & T this summer.

They won't take on Turks massive, long salary. It has to be Andrea, and I am more than willing to part with Drea to get Wade.

No, it would have to be a Bargs, Derozan, Amir, 1st.....something like that.

No way they're taking back Turk. Maybe Bargs, Jose, Derozan, 1st

As much as I love Bargs - and I really, really, really love him - if we could pair Wade with Bosh that's a legit championship contending core. You gotta pull the trigger on that deal, no hesitation.

Oh god, no argument. Even if you toss in Derozan, and 2 1sts. You pull the trigger.

Wade will be a Raptor, mark my words.
He told a close friend of mine that works for the Heat that Toronto is his first option :D

Wade is good enough that teams would easily give up top line talent in a sign and trade. Like Chicago would dump Derrick Rose in a second. Teams that have a great player already would give up anyone else on the roster. For the Raps, Bargs would have to go.

Its always possible but probably like a 2% chance of ever happening.

With Wade's cap hold hoopshype shows MIA with 24 mill in salaries this summer. If he walks that goes down to 7, meaning they will have around 47-52 mill to spend. I can't see them giving any of that up for Jose and Bargs.

Assuming LBJ is not possible for them they could potentially put together a core like

JoeJohnson and Rudy Gay for around 15 each
Camby for pretty cheap, say 5-6 mill
and either Amare or Boozer for about 12

That's a total of about 48 mill for 2 star wings and 2 star bigs. Need another 4 quality rotation guys, 3 if you include Beasley. And definitely need a PG. Rafer/Arroyo/Chalmers or the picks could fill that cheaply.

Beasley can play some 3 for them or he is a nice trade chip along with their 2 first round picks to maybe pick up another nice piece.

I think that cap space will not be what's preventing teams from acquiring max players, but rather having enough assets for the old team to want to make a S&T. Take for example Miami, why would Miami take Jose and change when they can sign star players outright with the cap space that they have?

I think that the only players who are close to the max who might sign outright are Amare and Boozer, but that's because their teams apparently don't want to pay the luxury tax (although cap space would certainly help in those cases).
