Any word about Rios trade rumours?

Post#1 » by 2009NBAChamps » Mon Apr 2, 2007 2:19 pm

I heard rumours during the off-season of trading him for pitching... more specifically to the Phillies for Myers

Any word on Rios' status as a Jay? Him and Vernon are my favourites on the team and I'd hate to give him up as he's a 5 tool stud who brings great defense and has a massive ceiling.

edited title, please read the rules on what you SHOULDNT put as your title; in fact, yours was the exact example I used :banghead:

I love Rios man.. a potential 5-tool player in a couple of years.. Lots of people forget that he was an all-star last year!

I'd hate to lose him, and would use other alternatives to shore up the pitching staff.. though the Jays aren't exactly filled with prospects..

Brett Myers is great pitcher, but to be honest I'd hate to see Rios go. I think he has potential to be one of most complete Jays players ever!

Also, we got him under our control for cheap for a few more years. I don't know Myers contract situation, but a pitcher of his calibre is going to command a huge salary. If Zito can command what he did, I can only see Myers commanding something in that ballpark.

Rios is gunna be better than Wells! I'd only deal him for a blue chip prospect and something else.

I was very scared when I heard all these rumours last fall of trading Rios for "a solid #3 starter" and the like. He's got amazing potential and is already showing quite a bit of it, and I think you simply do not trade a guy like that unless the pitcher coming back is top-notch. With the demand for pitching out there, that simply won't happen, so I can't see any way I trade Rios.

Also, as rdua mentioned, he's fairly cheap contract-wise for now, and the importance of that can't be understated with the Jays' payroll pushing its upper limit.

if the jays trade rios they are complete idiots. JP has said hes not looking to trade this guy. rios has the potential to be a superstar. and we cant trade him unless its for some VERY GOOD YOUNG pitching. not mediocre, or old guys.

I think we all agree that no one wants to trade Rios for sack of balls. The question the original poster posed was if you would trade him for a good young pitcher in Brett Myers?
