longfellow mockdraft

Post#1 » by longfellow44 » Mon Jan 25, 2010 9:48 am

I used the draft simulator to get the order.

1 Nets - Wall The nets take wall he's the clear cut superstar potential guy in this years draft It's the one no brainer, no other real options pick.

2 Timberwolves- Evan Turner I think he's the best possible fit, has very high upside is at a position of need and can be a real driving force as a leader. Also has a lot of poise for a player so young, he seems very ready to lead a team and the timberwolves could use a true leader on the team.

3 Pacers- Derrick Favors With his athleticism he is a perfect fit for the Pacers uptempo offense. He looks like a cross between Amare and Josh Smith, he would be a great addition to indy's young developing front line.

4 Warriors- Wesley Johnson His ability to play like an uptempo PF and then easily still be able to pull up and Hit the 3 makes him a perfect fit for Nellie ball. I'm not sold on any one comparison for him he seems so versatile that it just seems like the right fit to me.

5 Wizards- Cole Aldrich The wizards take the shot at a top class center prospect. A good solid center is always a good foundation for a rebuilding organization. He's a good rebounder, decent defender decent scorer and a good locker room presence, and I think his bust potential is very low. These are all of the ingredients to a safe pick for a franchise in turmoil.

6 Kings- Demarcus Cousins He's everything that a Geoff petrie pick usually is. He's highly skilled, tons of talent. Drafted Earlier than expected lol. With his ability to put the ball on the floor and make good passes as well as push players around in the post he just screams Geoff Petrie pick me.

7 76er's- Ed Davis Philly is a weird case because they have some talent at pretty much every spot but it's hard to figure out where you really need to make a change. So i went with the best big available at this point because Davis has a decently high ceiling and Philly has been rumored to want to move one of their overpaid bigs. I almost went with Henry because of his shooting but ultimately went with the higher potential.

8 Pistons-Al Farouq Aminu Pistons go BPA. Aminu has a great ceiling and could play either Forward position and would do well to learn behind Prince. I couldn't justify passing on Aminu here for another player because other than C the pistions have talent at every position and Warren projects as Stuckey 2.0 to me. So I had to go with Aminu who should be a project but has massive potential.

9 Jazz(knicks pick)- Xavier Henry Henry is a great fit here because he would fit so well with both Deron and Brewer with his 3pt shooting. Henry has the potential to become a very nice wing Scorer a bit like a bigger version of Ben Gordon.

10 Bucks- Willie Warren Warren is a good scorer and a capable ball handler drafting him will help to aleviate some of the pressure on Jennings. This will also be a solid move because of the down turn of Michael Redd's career.

11 Clippers- Stanley Robinson He seems like such a good fit with his ability to play in the post or to spot up for a 3pt shot. His versatility on the offensive side of the ball will make him a good complimentary player to Griffin and Gordon.

12 Hornets- Donatas Motiejunas he's a skinnier better rebounding version of Bargnani. His ability to put up numbers offensivley from anywhere on the floor will be boosted by Chris pauls ability to get his teammates good looks. This kid could become very good and with the Hornets looking to trim payroll this seems like a solid move allowing them to move either west or okafor because they drafted a young big.

13 Thunder- Greg Monroe The thunder are set at most positions but they desperately need someone who can play PF/C and monroe is the best available that can do that. He should be a very good teammate and his lack of attempting to be the dominant player on his team will make him a good fit with Durant, and Westbrook.

14 Grizzles- Pattrick Patterson Patterson falls to Memphis because he has a limited ceiling. However his ability to play either Forward spots makes him a good fit weather the Grizzles match any offers to Gay or not.

Milwaukee's draft motto should be "Just say no to Warren".

I could definitely see GS taking Johnson, but I think we'd be better suited with a big man like Cousins or Monroe,

If I were a Hornets fan, I'd probably would rather want Greg Monroe, than selecting Motiejunas, because Emeka is still locked for a few more years, and them selecting Monroe to go along Meka gives them a very athletic back court, to go along on with Chris Paul, and Thronton in the future.

1 Nets- John Wall With each mounting loss it becomes ever more important to get a true impact player. John Wall is a surefire star and should be a great combination with Brook Lopez. It allows them to trade Harris and get whatever they can for him.

2 TWolves- Evan Turner I think he's the best possible fit, has very high upside is at a position of need and can be a real driving force as a leader. Also has a lot of poise for a player so young, he seems very ready to lead a team and the timberwolves could use a true leader on the team. He reminds me of Tmac but maybe a better player in the end.

3 Warriors- Wesley Johnson He seems like a good fit in their system. Can pretty much do everything well. His ability to shoot the 3 and then take his man of the dribble and finish at the hoop should make him a great fit in Nellie's system. I think that he reminds me of Al Harrington but with better shot blocking. Ultimatley I think that if they land here they try to either trade up or down.

4 Wizards- Derrick Favors Favors Shows a ton of athleticism and looks like a cross between Amare and Josh Smith. He has the ability to be a great player or he could be average. I think that the Wizards like McGee enough to try to pair him with Favors and move Jamison out or to the SF spot. This team needs the best possible talent so they swing for the fences here.

5 Kings- Demarcus Cousins Cousins fits the kings well and would likely start at Center right away. His skill set and physicality would be a great compliment to the current kings front line. His defensive potential and shot blocking ability make him a great option for the kings.

6 Pacers- Ed Davis The pacers select Davis to put together a very good front line. Davis and Hansborough share time at PF and Davis may see time at backup C as well. Davis with his defensive ability and explosiveness would be a good compliment to Hibberts more plodding style. I really like the idea of a Hibberts, Davis Hansborogh front line.

7 Pistons- Cole Aldrich Pistons get lucky and Aldrich falls to them. This is their best case scenario because they biggest need is at center and Aldrich projects to be a Kaman Style center and his shot blocking ability should be very helpful as this team continues to rebuild.

8 Jazz(Knicks pick)- Willie Warren The jazz are one of the teams that could really use Warren and his scoring ability immediately. Warren would be very helpful with his ability to be another wing scorer for the jazz. I think he would be a great compliment to Brewer on the wing. Ultimately I think they trade the pick but they may choose to make the selection and if they do I think they choose Warren.

9 76er's- Dontatas Motiejunas Has the ability to really help the 76ers has tons of potential could become one of the better bigs in the league. Reminds me of Jamison but taller. Has the ability to put the ball to put the ball on the floor or to spot up. Would really help philly to have him on the team spreading the floor for all of their slashers.

10 Clippers- Al-Farouq Aminu has tons of potnetial and projects to be a sf/pf I think that he would be a good fit overall. He could be a josh smith type talent and that would greatly help this franchise. His defensive potential would be amazing next to another great wing defender in Gordon.

11 Bucks- Pattrick Patterson Patterson falls to the bucks and they are very happy about it. His ability to be physical and finish at the rim would be a nice compliment to Jennings. They would be a great tandem on the break. I think adding someone like Patterson would make both bogut and jennings more successful by drawing away some of the defensive pressure.

12 Grizzles- Stanley Robinson I think that he would be a pretty good fit he reminds me a little of rudy gay, maybe a little more physical but I think he needs less touches to be effective which ultimately will be a good thing with the # of guys who need shots with the grizzles.

13 Hornets- Greg Monroe Since the european is off the table I think a great all around PF with plenty of athleticism would be great he could combine well with Okafor if the hornets keep the team together.

14 Rockets- Ekpe Udoh Huge upside pick here. Udoh has shot blocking potential rarely seen and he's very mobile. The rockets don't have any devastating needs so they select a long term option here that could learn and develop behind Yao and could be something very special. shows the beginnings of a very nice offensive game as well.

Sloan would never let the Jazz pick Willie Warren. Greg Monroe or Aminu would be the selection for the Jazz in that situation imo. Both fit well into the Jazz's system and I can see Sloan really liking Aminu's hustling and defense.

^^the problem with both of those selections is that you already have guys at those positions. Aminu is a lot like Kirilenko so he's not really a guy you would draft because you already have a guy like that. Monroe is also a guy i doubt the jazz would draft because they already have Okur, Milsap, Boozer they wouldn't even have room for him.

Sloan may not be really happy with a guy like Warren but you can't deny that Warren would be a good fit at a position of need.

Ok. I just thought that Patterson and his physicality might be better for the bucks. He's much more aggressive than Monroe.

Warriors would take a big man like Cousins or Favors over another wing.

^^yeah I saw that in the trade forum. Didn't know that you guys were falling out of love with Biedrins and would be looking at getting another big. From where it stands now I think Goldenstate has a solid front court and a solid backcourt but the issue I have is they don't seem to fit together because of the coaching. I really think that Goldenstate is a lot more talented than their record I really blame nelson for the teams poor showing. Randolph could have be doing more if given the opportunity Maggette should pretty much stick to being a SF but he has gotten moved all over the place I think I even saw him at center a couple times.

I'll keep in mind for my next update that Goldenstate would probably be looking at a bigman.

1 Nets - John Wall Not much to say that hasn't already been said.

2 Twolves- Evan Turner Again still the best possible choice and a perfect fit for Minny

3 Warriors- Demarcus Cousins With Biedrins falling out of favor, I think that the warriors swing for the fences with Cousins. Cousins could be a very good NBA player and if he can handle the Warriors system specifically all the running then they should be able to use him very well to snag boards and get easy buckets in transition.

4 Kings- Cole Aldrich Aldrich is the best possible fit at this point. Whiteside would be fantastic but I'm not sure the kings would risk so much on a guy like Whiteside. Aldrich is the safe pick here and he would be great with the kings. His defense will be greatly appreciated and should help to consolidate the whole defensive scheme.

5 Pacers- Derrick Favors Pacers are very happy that favors falls to them and he should be a great compliment to both Hibbert and Granger. Favors abilities will be maximized by Hibberts mid-range shooting and Granger's ability to shoot from deep.

6 Jazz- Wesley Johnson Johnsons ability to be a weak side shot blocker and shoot the deep ball will be a perfect fit with the Jazz, and should be able to learn well from kirilenko.

7 Detroit- Hassan Whiteside for a team thats lacking in big man talents whiteside should be a great fit he could play center or PF in their lineup all depends on what they are looking to do. he's still very raw so it could be a little while before he is producing consistently but when he does the pistons should expect big things.

8 Wizards- Al Farouq Aminu The wizards have cleaned house and in this case Aminu could easily be either their PF or their SF. His defensive abilities and his shot blocking could be a major compliment to anyone and I think that he could easily fit a josh smith type role with this team.

9 76ers- Greg Monroe While philly needs more shooting Monroe is the best talent left on board. Monroe does have a decent mid range shot and should philly get rid of Dalembert he could easily start next to Brand. Philly doesn't have any easy choices right now so it's just best for them to go BPA.

10 Clippers- Pattrick Patterson Clippers don't want or need anyone other than a SF but patterson projects as a PF in the NBA. I think ultimately he splits time as backup PF/SF. He's talented and possibly the BPA so it's a good choice.

11 Bucks-Xavier Henry The bucks could use Henry's shooting and scoring ability. He would be a nice compliment to jennings and Bogut long term and should fit well next to Salmons in the short term by basically being the recipient of catch and shoots and back door cuts to the basket.

13 Grizz-Stanley Robinson The grizz take robinson as a nice backup option to Gay and it's a bit of an insurance policy also robinson's toughness will be appreciated in the backup role.

14 Hornets-Donatas Motiejunas The European should be a good fit and could easily be a starter long term. He would fit well with both okafor and paul. It would be a good situation for him being sheltered by Okafors defense and being the recipient of easy passes should make life a lot easier on this kid.

1st round Mock

1. Nets John Wall- No need to explain

2. Wolves Evan Turner- No need to explain

3. Warriors Wesley Johnson- Seems to have star potential, and more than anything else the warriors need talent, obtaining a gifted two way player like Johnson would be fantastic and should allow some of the small ball lineups to work more smoothly. He will be golden state's Shawn Marion.

4. Wizards Derrick Favors- This pick up moves Blatche to center and the wizards all of a sudden have a fantastic 3 man rotation at PF/C with Mcgee Blatche and favors. Favors defensive potential is a huge plus for this team.

5. Pistons DeMarcus Cousins- Cousins is the perfect fit for them and they snatch him up immediately the fact that he falls to them at this pick is a huge help for their franchise. They need a bigman desperately and they didn't want to have to reach on Aldrich who isn't really worth this pick.

6. Kings Hassan Whiteside Petrie goes the high risk high reward route here. He is in general a very good judge of talent and has often taken risks and picked players earlier than expected. Whiteside's defensive talent and overall upside are intriguing enough to pull the trigger on this pick.

7. 76er's Greg Monroe High upside guy here his talent level and overall skill set should be a major compliment to this team. There are guys at every position on this team and each position except small forward needs an upgrade so philly takes the guy with the most potential and talent left.

8. Utah Ed Davis Davis has the potential to replace Boozer if he leaves this summer, His shot blocking is also a highly useful skill, the Jazz take the PF this time who actually has defensive ability.

9. Pacers Eric Bledsoe Pacers go with the position of the most need. Bledsoe has the type of speed and athletic ability to truly push this team and it's high octane offense. They draft him a little early at this spot but their needs are great enough at this position to warrant the selection. This should allow them to use the MLE on an athletic starting SG and move Rush to the bench.

10. Clippers Al farouq Aminu- They simply go BPA here, the Bonus is that he is a small forward and has great defensive potential and looks to me like a combination of Josh Smith and Kirilenko.

11. Hornets- Donatas Motiejunas- Hornets go with the high upside european player he should be a nice fit with the youth of this team. He can work behind West for a year or so until he is acclimated to the league then take over the starting role.

12. Bucks- Xavier Henry Bucks go with Henry at this spot because his shooting will be very valuable. His ability to spread the floor will help make more room for Salmons and Bogut to spend time in the paint.

13. Rockets Cole Aldrich- Has tons of potential on the defensive end. He could be a nice replacement for yao if he can't come back from his current injury. He has enough talent to carry the defensive load.

14. Grizzles Damion James- Has the potential to replace gay if he leaves, and if he doesn't he has plenty of defensive ability and if gay sticks around he should be a nice fit off the bench.

15. Heat Pattrick Patterson- has plenty of ability and could be a nice young compliment for whatever type of team finds itself on the court for them next year. He's versatile enough to be a part of any lineup.

16. Wolves Jan Vesley- A great pick up this late in the draft the wolves take him simply because of the value at this pick. Should also help the team get a better talent level behind it's starters.

17. Heat lEkpe Udoh- great rotation guy enough ability to contribute to a team next year has defensive talent and should be able to play behind anyone next year and make a positive impact. Could be much more than just a rotation guy

18. Bulls James Anderson Solid talent level and should really help the whole offense next year with his ability to stretch the floor. Possibly a starter in the future but is atleast a reserve in this league.

19. Blazers Larry Sanders- With all of their injuries to their bigmen this is a safety pick he has the potential to be a contributor in the league and he shouldn't ever be a defensive liability. He could also be a role playing starter but not likely with the blazers.

20. Thunder Solomon Alabil- Should help the bigman rotation for the thunder has plenty of potential to be a starter in the league but needs time to develop. his size and mentality should make him a useful back up.

21. Spurs Stanley robinson The spurs have a habit of snagging talented players that have fallen in the draft and this year is no exception. With the jefferson experiment a resounding failure they get a nice small forward here that could grow into being a very useful and talented starter.

22. Hawks Avery Bradley Potential replacement in case JJ leaves. His 3pt shooting should be a nice continuity. Spreading the floor seems to be important for the success of Josh smith and horford.

23. Thunder Devin Ebanks- Enough talent to allow them to move green for a legit bigman.

24. Celtics- Gani lawal has enough ability to be a potential starter but needs time to develop.

25. Wolves-Dominque Jones- Sg- that could spend some minutes behind the starters

26. Grizzles Quincy Pondexter- Solid talent level should help in the event that gay leaves.

27. Nets Omar Samhan- Big guy limited upside but should be effective for 10 minutes a night, solid scorer off the bench.

28. Magic Kyle Singler- Nice shooter should fit in well with their offense.

29. Grizzles Sheron Collins- Solid backup should have enough fire to help the team from th bench

30. Wizards Paul george Great value at this pick the kid should be useful in some capacity.

that mock draft gives me WOOD, as a twolves fan!

Turner and Vesely are my 2 favorite players in the draft.

Dom Jones also is a nice player, could blow up in the nba, marcus thornton style, good value pick late.

Missed putting Favors in the mock. He should be in the top 5.
Trade S. Jackson soon. NJ seems like a nice place for him.

1. Nets Wall.....No explanation

2. Twolves....Turner....No explanation

3. Kings..... Cousins Kings take the big potential guy. He's a position of need and has the ability to be an all star in the league.

4. Warriors..... Favors Warriors go with favors who should be a nice fit, he could become their center and would make a nice combo with Randolph his athleticism should be shown off well in a full court offense, Curry will make Favors look like a star from the get go.

5. Wizards.... Wes Johnson They go with the BPA and he fits in well with what the team will need. His potential is a little more limited than some of the others in this draft but he seems to be a SF/SG version of Shawn Marion

6. 76er's...Motiejunas The 76er's take the high upside player, his ability to develop into a fantastic PF is why they take him, He will learn behind Brand for a year or so but will start as soon as his game adapts to the NBA.

7. Pistons....Monroe High upside guy seems to me to be a guy somewhere between Kevin Love and Paul gasol. I think he has the potential to be a fantastic offensive PF with some defensive potential, not a fantastic defensive player but still solid.

8. Clippers.....Aminu They need a SF and he's the best available he's also a high upside guy I think he could be a potential Josh Smith type.

9. Jazz....Xavier Henry The jazz are still in win now mode so they take the guy who best fits their current plans. Henry has decent potential, makes me thing of a strong and powerful version of Kevin Martin, my guess is that makes him a better overall player.

10. Pacers... Ekpe Udoh Udoh is looking to be a steal, he's a 2 way player and has fantastic instincts on the defensive end of the court with a growing offensive game, His level of mobility will be a major plus when playing next to Hibbert.

11. Hornets.... Patterson a more than ready player, Patterson will be a very productive player and playing next to guys like Okafor and Paul will make the game easier for him.

12. Grizzles.... jan vesley High upside SF can also play back up Pf should be solid insurance incase Gay doesn't resign. Has fantastic potential as a defensive stopper.

13. Toronto....Aldrich Toronto has their Wet dream come true. His defensive ability is the perfect compliment to both bosh and Bargs. Even if the raptors lose Bosh they have a fantastic young front court.

14. Rockets....Ed Davis Rockets take the High risk High reward guy. he could be fantastic but i get the feeling that he never reaches his potential. But, If he does he will be fantastic.

My thoughts:

- Philly and Detroit pick Aldrich or Monroe between them
- Motiejunas will be picked at the end of the lotto if at all, he's got contract issues and might not come over for a while. I bet Vesely is the first Euro to go.
- Davis goes higher than Patterson

Davis is a bust waiting to happen and people know it. Didn't know that dontatas had contract issues, after the rubio thing I think teams will be more hesitant so he probably falls a bit further then but I maintain that Detroit would take Monroe over aldrich simply because of his ceiling being so much higher. And Patterson goes before Davis because he's a much more NBA ready prospect and the team he goes to is looking to compete sooner rather than later.

The dontatas motiejunas thing really screws up the draft though his contract issues would certainly
make him a lower pickwhich would change what is available at each consecutive pick. I'll get back with a fixed update.
