Do the Nuggets need to make a trade?
With the Butler/Haywood trade for Josh Howard and nothing else deal completed, the West conference has just gotten tougher. Cuban is really trying to buy the Mavs a title.
Hence, what does everyone think... can the Nuggets still beat the Mavs now in a playoff series, or do we need to get a big?

Re: Do the Nuggets need to make a trade?
Funny to see someone with the name BrandonRoy4MVP including himself in the collective we of Nuggets fans.
This will definately put more pressure on us and the rest of the western conference matching a Solid Center with Dirk. Not sure Butler is going to be that much of a difference from Howard. Neither can guard Carmelo. Unfortunately unless we get lucky and sign a veteran who gets bought out, or find an gem on a small contract, no move we make will be able to improve our rotation that much in my opinion. It would be nice, but im very comfortable with this team headed into the playoffs.

We?? With a name a like that you are automatically can't be called a Nuggets fan.
And no, we don't need a trade. I don't think this trade puts them over us. I'm not worried about Mavs, I still think we can take them down with HCA in about 5 or 6 games.

Need to? No, we're still much better then the Mavs.
We could still use another big to help us against the Lakers though. You don't get better by looking in the rearview mirror.

I don't think the Mavs got much better, but we do need more help against the Lakers.
Consistency off the bench and a solid all around big man would be perfect. Upgrade Bird and JR.

Re: Do the Nuggets need to make a trade?
Dallas now has a payroll of 89 mil this year and it could shoot over $90 next year. Stan Kronke won't go anywhere near a deal that puts us way up there.
I think denver is still better than dallas because the nugs have cohesion. Dallas just blew up their bench for a new one. We'll see if 30ish games is enough time for them all to gel.

David Aldridge on The Beat just said that Denver is pursuing Tyrus Thomas to give them more depth with their bigs.

Is that all that he said, or did he give an idea of what would be involved in deal to get him?

They just mentioned that Chicago was desperate to move him so they wouldn't have to pay him the qualifying offer this summer (money that couldn't be spent on Wade, etc.). Said Denver was one of the main teams talking with them. Didn't get into any specifics. I think the main thing for the Bulls is not adding salary.

Re: Do the Nuggets need to make a trade?
He did make it clear that Denver was pushing for Thomas harder than the other teams - I think he mentioned Portland and Houston.
Really all I can imagine them doing is stringing together guys like Malik Allen/Graham/etc. who come off the books after this season. A couple guys in that scenario - Petro and Carter, specifically, would have to consent to waive their Bird Rights in order to make it work. Not sure that would be the problem.
Very little is exciting about that trade if you're Chicago other than adding no salary. I can't imagine they couldn't get something a little better elsewhere that could help this season, although Graham has proven to be a decent role player.

Re: Do the Nuggets need to make a trade?
Looking back at that Hunter deal...I still think when you look at it by itself, it's a good deal. But when you start thinking about potential trades right now, man would it be nice to have his decent sized expiring contract and that first rounder.
Of course, if by the grace of jersus, we're somehow able to turn scrubs like Balkman/Petro/Allen/Graham/etc into something decent(ala TT), then that deal will look even better in hindsight.

No need for the Nugs to panic and react to the Dallas deal by making a deal of their own. The Nugs are still better than Dallas.
If they're going to make a deal, make one that is for the benefit of the team and not as a reaction to what someone below them on the ladder.
The Dallas deal isn't all that impressive anyway when you really think about it.

Tyrus works for me... Goddamn we better make a move and acquire a big. If we can't get a legit 7 footer who plays positional defense... then a 6-10 guy with mad hops and matador defense works.
Do something... Dallas adding Butler and Haywood is crazy, they can't ask for a more perfect trade.
Edit: to think about it, Kenyon's knee might cause him to miss more games (as per wire tap), so I think this should really prompt the Nuggets to pursue this trade.

Re: Do the Nuggets need to make a trade?
A trade for TT would be great but I can't see the bulls giving him up for our scrubs. We'd have to send them 3 players and then they'd have to waive a couple cause they can't add everyone to the roster.
Ya'll had to know K-Marts knee's would start to hurt, he's had to over exert the past month with Melo and Billups on the bench.

Tyrus is the real deal!
With 2 aging & one mystery bigs we have to snatch Tyrus if possible. Martin's knee alone should put FO to be in a position to consider this trade as a "MUST"

I agree with Smitty and think that the Hunter trade is coming back to bite the FO in the butt. Not that it was a terrible trade, but both of those assets that were given up could come in handy right about now.

Re: Do the Nuggets need to make a trade?
I think at this point we know this front office doesn't buy into media hype with regards to the offseason or deadline. They're not going to do something stupid.
I did see that Denver is the team pushing for Thomas the hardest. Whether they have the pieces to get it done is a different question entirely. Probably not, unless the Bulls get desperate.

What draft picks does denver have in the next few years? Have they all been traded away already?

Not many.
Crazy trade idea for the trade thread.
I believe a few years ago the Hawks wanted to trade for Nene and give up the #2 I believe it was (and Denver would have drafted Deron).
Nene, JR for Hortford and Joe Johnson.
They don't have to worry about trying to resign JJ, Nene is a skilled big man who plays hard (har har). Might be appealing to the Hawks who I believe are cheap? Although I doubt they could be conned in to doing it.

Re: Do the Nuggets need to make a trade?
Not sure about second rounders(I think we actually have might have some extras, possibly)...but the only first rounder that we've traded is our 2010 first.
The problem is that you can't trade two consecutive future first round draft picks. So we can't trade our 2011 1st until after the 2010 draft is over. So all we have to work with right now is a 2012 1st, which I doubt a lot of teams will value too highly right now.
