I say Hell To The YESSSS
All we'd have to give up is a 2nd or 3rd. That's is F-ING AWESOME!!!
We'd basically be getting two top 5 draft picks on our DLine in one draft. He's only 25, too!! People label him as a bust, but he was given a position switch from a 4-3 DT to a 3-4 DE. That's not an easy thing to do for one, and he was very adequate at that totaling 54 tackles this year as a 3-4 DE. That's not too shabby at all. Imagine Suh/McCoy - Dorsey - Avril - Graham/Hardy/Dunlap as our DLine. That would be one of the best pass rushing 4-3 DLines in the NFL and would make the jobs for the secondary a hell of a lot easier.

Well what are the hopes for Sammie Hill? Because we are prolly getting Suh/McCoy and than pairing him with Hill i thought for a young combo. Not that you cant have three DTs to rotate, im just saying

What's so good about SLH? That he was our best DLineman last year, cuz that really isn't saying much at all.
Dorsey would be a tremendous upgrade from SLH, and one of the biggest problems of Detroit is that we have NOOOO depth at any position. SLH would be good depth. Suh/McCoy - Dorsey would be the best young DT combo in the NFL.
I mean, Dorsey is sooooo underrated that the ONE game he missed, Jerome Harrison torched KC up for 286 yards.

Im not saying im dead-set against it. But not for a second rounder. No way in hell. Hill could be a nice compliment to McCoy and i would rather use the second pick to grab a CB or tackle. Even a third would give me pause

Re: Glenn Dorsey???
What player in the 2nd round will you find better then Dorsey? I don't even believe that you can find a player outside the top 10 that has more potential then Dorsey. And with our 2nd round, I don't even want to draft a CB unless Kyle Wilson is available.... and I don't want any offensive player taken until the 4th round and it better be an OG like John Jerry. We have only 3 needs on offense right now. RB, LG, and #2 WR. RB and WR can be filled in FA, whereas LG can be filled in trade or 4th round.
We have about 9 or 10 needs on defense. Avril is best suited as a 3-4 DE, but might be able to excel with exceptional DT play, as well as our LB's. Say we got Suh.... Dorsey + Suh would make the jobs of any DE and LB easier.
And with our 2nd rounder, I'd want to get a DE anyways. Greg hardy, Brandon Graham, Everson Griffon or Carlos Dunlap will be there and one of those 4 would be my 2nd round choice.

Re: Glenn Dorsey???
Sorry Bar but I'm with ajaX on this one. I like Dorsey and think he's better than he's shown. But I too would be reluctant to give up a day 1 pick for him. I agree that we need defense. God knows we've gone over our needs, and a upgrade at DT so SLH can move down the charts where he belongs is one of those needs. But I'd fill holes before adding depth.
I'd grab a CB in the 2nd round before I'd trade that pick for a DT when we're going to draft one at #2. I'd than grab LG Jon Asamoah in the third and draft defense the rest of the way. The only way I would trade a day 1 pick is if we got back a real game changer. Someone who is already proven and can help us immediately. Dorsey isn't proven. I wouldn't want to risk that high of a pick on the chance that he could improve. We don't have that luxury yet.

Re: Glenn Dorsey???
This Dorsey deal is real close to being a done one. I actually know that from the KC side, not the Detroit side. It does involve more than just the #34 pick though--Julian Peterson and some later-round swapping (adv. Lions, like our 6th for their 4th) are on the table. And I love it for the Lions!
That opens up the world of Joe Haden, Eric Berry, even Anthony Davis at #2...but I have a strong suspicion that makes the #2 pick in the 2010 NFL Draft one Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech. He's far better than any potential pass rusher at #34 that would pair with McCoy or Suh inside. McCoy basically compares equal to Dorsey, same type of active 3-technique pocket collapser with incredible agility and quickness but enough base strength to anchor too. Playing in a 3-4 took away from that speed and quickness and asked him to tie up blockers and play out of the gaps, which is sort of like asking your slot receiver to line up at tight end. To get that player and add a tremendous, versatile pass rusher at DE at #2 would be fantastic. Make it happen, Marty!

It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

whoa...
still not sold on it Ice, i gotta be honest. I mean Suh and McCoy were supposed to be the 1,2 prospects far and away right? Now all the sudden we say screw it? I wouldnt mind Haden or Berry (Bar creams his pants about now) but is Derrick Morgan worth the #2 pick?

DE... trade for 2nd
CB
OG
S
RB

Basically, if we get Dorsey, and Suh is available, we better trade down and get a sh*t load of players or picks or take Suh. Suh / Dorsey would be absolutely awesome.

^ i admit the run stopping Suh and the pass rushing Dorsey would excite me a bit. Though Dorseys 2 career sacks dont exactly speak testament to his pass rushing abilities

Re: Glenn Dorsey???
So the deal is Peterson and our 6th for Dorsey and their 4th? If that's the case, I pull the trigger. But I still go Suh at #2 if available but I'd take Berry over McCoy if Suh is gone.

We also give up the 34th pick...big difference there

Re: Glenn Dorsey???
WAIT!?! Peterson, #34 and our 6th for Dorsey and their 4th. I say "NO DEAL". Dorsey isn't worth the #2 alone, let along a 6th and JP for their 4th. We need all the assets we can get. Giving up a good LB and two picks (including basically a late 1st) for a young guy who hasn't proven anything and a worst pick isn't the direction this team should be going.
I know our LBs were average last year , youdon't eliminate all of them in one offseason when it's one of the only positions who are decent at. Footes not coming back, you want to trade Peterson so all we have left is Levy and Sims (who doesn't look good in the 4-3) and a couple mediocre backups? How are you going to fill those holes? by trading away picks?

Re: Glenn Dorsey???
To be honest, this is what I think the deal is from studying a lot of KC forums that are talking about it.
Detroit gets:
Glenn Dorsey
Derrick Johnson
5th or 6th round pick
KC gets:
#34
Julian Peterson
5th or 6th round pick
Detroit gets:
Glenn Dorsey
Derrick Johnson
5th or 6th round pick
KC gets:
#34
Julian Peterson
5th or 6th round pick

Re: Glenn Dorsey???
Didn't Derrick Johnson have a REALLY bad year this past season? I know he's younger than Peterson, but I really don't think he's better in anyway.
I dunno.... I think #34 is more valuable than Dorsey. Downgrading LBs for similiar picks doesn't really do much for me.

Derrick Johnson on his salary > JP on his salary.

Even if we land Dorsey, I have been thinking and we still should go with whichever DT is available or suits us best. Right now we need the best players available and i think Suh and McCoy are the two best easily.
I hope we dont do something silly like trading for Dorsey, than picking a lesser player based on need. We NEED talent

Agreed to an extent. If Suh is there, draft him... but if McCoy is there, draft Berry or Haden.
