Really excited about Robin Lopez
Anyone else super psyched about how Lopez has been playing? He had 18 points and 10 rebounds last night in only 29 minutes. Guy's gotten his excessive fouling under control and shown he's got some offensive touch that's not limited to just garbage buckets. Assuming he gets his conditioning up, guy could be averaging something like 20/12 in real starter's minutes. Now it's tough to lay down stats like in "hypothetical" minutes played, but still, he's been super effective in limited minutes since he's moved to the starting lineup.
I was like most people, thinking "Who's this goofy dude with the ridiculously low voice, in love with Disney movies, and can barely stop himself from fouling out in ten minutes?" But he's really shown he can ball lately. I'm just shocked at how he's put it together this year.

Yep, now he has a little confidence, experience, and a guy named Nash on the other end of the P&R from him. All good things for him.

Re: Really excited about Robin Lopez
I'm hoping for something like 13, 9, and 1.5 blocks for the remainder of the year. Somewhat high expectations of Robin Lopez.

Would have been unrealistic given his performance last year. But he's been pretty consistent in the starting lineup and it seems perfectly reasonable to expect this now. I'd actually adjust his points higher and his rebounds lower, though. Maybe 16/8.

Re: Really excited about Robin Lopez
It's good to know that RoLo will (hopefully) become a serviceable starting center in the league in the long run. We're never looking at a 20-10 guy but he could realistically do like 18,8 or 9 and 1.5 or even 2 . This season, I dunno maybe 15 and 7 with1 or 2 blocks.

agreed with a lot said. I was like anti Lopez. Complete 180 on that. I do hope his rebounding goes way up though on a consistent basis.

Re: Really excited about Robin Lopez
The best thing about Robin Lopez is not statistically measurable.
He really is a presence defensively when people drive to the rim he alters shots or blocks shots.
Like that nasty block he had on Rudy Gay which was called a foul but it sends a message.
Don't come in here thinking you're getting something easy when we have a 7 foot mickey mouse in the house!!!

I don't think he is capable of averaging that many points for the remainder of the year. Most of his points are garbage buckets and Nash feeds, won't be long until he's being scouted and players know what to look for from him.

I hope he doesn't get too caught up with the easy bucket from P&R with Nash and never develop proper post-moves....pretty much like what Amare did. LOL

Apparently he's been practicing post moves a lot in practice. I think Kerr will make sure he develops a real post presence. This team will look quite a bit different once Nash moves on, methinks.

True about the scouting. But he's basically averaged around 16 every since he's been a starter.

He's been averaging 12.3/6.3 and 2.8 fouls in 24.8 minutes since becoming a starter. Let's assume he produces at about the same rate in 36 minutes (usual starter time). That is, this season, 17.5/9.1. Holy crap-o-la!? That is the kind of production I like to see out of the twin brother we all made fun of! That one summer league game got me all psyched about him, and then he went back to sucking for a while. And then all that changed.
And he's become a beast on defense. Altering shots like crazy and staring people down when he pwn's their nub sauce. Plus it sounds like he's a hard worker, which is a plus in big men

Re: Really excited about Robin Lopez
He's been averaging a little over 12 points per game since the game in Atlanta. Now if Amare is going to be traded, then I would say its reasonable for Lopez to average 16 points a game. But for now, I'm gonna stick with 13. And he needs to be more consistent blocking shots, using more of his hands than his body. He gets a ton of blocks that end up being fouls because of his body contact.

It's so shocking to me how sudden this turnaround has been. If it had only been two or three games, I wouldn't be talking about it, but he's been producing pretty consistently now for a dozen games.

Dragic seems more comfortable in half court sets and he's pretty good off the ball. Him plus 1 other ball handler has worked really well, as can be seen from him and Hill's +/- last night. Him and Lopez worked all summer on their pick and roll two. It's funny how you can kind of just figure out who're friends when they're not practicing or playing, and I think those two get along really well

Did you notice how many Nash to Lopez pnr's there were last night? We ran it more times than with Amare (I think). He does it pretty dang well to. Effective off the pick and roll with a good hook and a decent mid-range shot and you've got quite a scary offensive threat that doesn't have to expend alot of energy to get his points. Which means he can defend at full force

Yeah, one thing I like about Lopez is when they run PnR's Nash can easily lob it to Lopez for an alley-oop. Since Nash and Amare haven't done those in quite some time anyway, plus Lopez has longer reach than Amare so it'd be easier for him to grab those.

Re: Really excited about Robin Lopez
I really have liked Spanish's effort lately. I call him Spanish because the first time I saw his hair it reminded me of the pledge Spanish in the movie Old School. Now back to topic at hand. Limited minutes, he has the best PG in the game who can feed him the ball with such ease, a coach that lets our youngsters make mistakes but leaves them out on the floor (unless you get 5 fouls in 5 minutes).
Amazing what a little time can do...
