Re: Camby traded to Blazers
I wanted to talk about this when it first hit ESPN, but this thread got locked. Seriously mods, the one time I want to post on the Clippers board, you lock the thread. WTFLOL! Get a clue because they didn't lock the other threads on the GB. Even other unofficial trades on other boards like the Lakers don't get locked unless thread are multiple threads.
Anyway, back to Camby. Seriously thought he was a great fit for the Clippers and figured it would come to Dunleavy moving him, but for so little in return does not make sense. I have friends here in LA that are die hard Clipper fans and hate the Lakers, and I just feel horrible for them.
I feel bad. I mean, I figure there was a likelihood that Camby gets traded, but seriously get more in return. Even a future draft pick. Gawd!
(this is frustrating to watch)

christianh213 wrote:Other than the money Sterling will be making from this deal it's also about throwing the season. I've been saying for a while now that the Clippers want to lose this season. Camby had a lot of heart and put in a great effort every game. That's not want the Clippers want knowing that they won't be making the playoffs this year. So they go for a drop off in talent. Blake is very streaky and apparently Outlaw has a low basketball IQ, I didn't know this. I've only seen a few Blazer games this season so I don't know too much about him but that sounds awful. So basically we are trying to get rid of Thornton who has absolutely no basketball IQ and trade for a player that's the same? Wow they are really trying to get a high lottery pick in a good draft. As far as Camby goes he is just a rental for the Blazers. He really doesn't have to move his family out of LA considering he will only be in Portland for 3 months. The Blazers will not resign him in my opinion. So don't be surprised if we see Camby back in LA next season...but in a Laker uniform. He would be able to return to LA for the vet minimum and he can stick it to the Clippers for trading him. Oh and let's not forget the whole winning championships thing too.
As much as I like that idea, this doesn't really make enough sense. Camby would be playing at most 10 minutes (if he's lucky) a game behind Gasol, Bynum, and Odom. And the minimum isn't much especially if you are going back to LA. Gasol or Bynum would have to be injured for the Lakers to get him (similar to what the Blazers are dealing with Oden and Pryzbilla.)
He'll get better offers from Denver, Houston, New York, and anyone else with cap space.

Is Dunleavy planning on keeping Outlaw?
You know if they keep him, this trade isn't all that bad. He's could be better than Butler and he's clutch.

Blazers won't be better for long.

Clips could sign a big name this summer. Plus draft in the top 5 or 10.
Baron, Gordon, Kaman, Griffin, top 10 lottery pick, 10-15 million dollar free agent is a fantastic core basketball team.
All they need is a real coach. Not a Dunleavy puppet.

Well according to Ric Bucher, getting a big name in the summer appears to be Sterling's plan:
NBA teams generally don't like to telegraph their moves publicly, but it doesn't take Peyton Manning to break down film on what the Clippers are doing by trading Marcus Camby and what had become one of the most desirable expiring contracts in the league to Portland on Tuesday.
The Clippers are going all in for the summer of 2010.
They still must make a couple of smaller moves to clear enough room to make a max offer to one of this summer's long-coveted free agents, but now that they've traded Camby, they've essentially committed to this path.

If all my years of Clipperfandom have taught me anything, its to remain cynical and not believe anything positive you hear until the deal is done. Just because we wanna sign someone big, doesn't mean someone big is gonna wanna sign with us. That aside though, I thought this was a bit of interesting information to share.

Camby's contract expires after this year, so only this year is relevant. This year Portland is the better team. All other conjecture about what you think will happen to the teams in the future is irrelevant. I'd like to see the Clippers get better, but it seems like they are unable to, no matter what happens. I think it's an organizational issue and won't be resolved until at minimum they get a new owner.

I'm not a Clipper fan, but I do attend their games when we're bored and I generally root for them when they're not playing the Lakers.
I want them to be good so I can hate their guts again.

Blazers aren't contenders though and most likely won't make the playoffs if Roy is out for the season..not much of a difference on team success this season.
Uprooting your LIFE and family mid-season unexpectedly isn't all that desirable. Especially when you're going from a place with the best weather in the world to Portland.

Nice find. I like how Bucher is even hesitant on committing his name to that theory.

Well I've read that a sign and trade for Wade and sending Gordon to Miami is one option.

I agree. He needs another inside presence that can help him out. Camby was the perfect complement to Kaman's post play, as Blake will be a pretty good complement. Craig Smith and DeAndre Jordan, not so much.

Maybe with all that cap space, the Clippers will use it to resign Camby?
At least that's what Dunleavy hinted on in the Clippers game.

Just show him some love. Throw the some money at him. Clippers fan should do something too if you guys really miss him. I just read that the Raptors Board just helped raised $35,000 for Haiti and it included the Raptors matching it. If the Raptors board can do that, you guys can surely get Camby back and maybe even Lebron (...okay maybe not Lebron but still...)

Wiretap says Camby wants to stay in Portland. It's nice to have loyal players.

Yes it is. The guy just doesn't like being traded. It had nothing to do with the city of Portland when he was moved. Hope he does well for you folks.
