What would you do if you were in charge?

Post#1 » by clifffside » Tue Feb 16, 2010 5:14 pm

What would you do under each scenario?

1.) If we had the 1st pick in the draft
2.) 2nd pick
3.) 3rd pick
4.) 4th pick

.....and the cap is set at $53 to $55 million

Include free agent signings you would pursue

Ok

1st. Wall
2nd. Turner
3rd. Favors
4th. Ed Davis or Wes

If we land the 1st or 2nd I my order of free agent targets would be (obviuosly LBJ and Wade are 1 and 2 no matter where we land but with them aside)

1. Bosh (max)
2. D. Lee (12 mil)
3. Amare (15 mil)
4. Boozer (15 mil)
then try and move Harris to IND for Ford and their pick and look for either X.Henry or E.Udoh

If we land a PF with 3 or 4 then after LBJ and Wade again

1. Gay because of his youth and upside still will work nice with our young core (10 mil)
2. JJ (15 mil)

So basically I'm hoping for a lineup like
Wall
X. Henry
Gay
Bosh/D.Lee/Amare/Boozer
Lopez

or

Harris
Turner
Gay
D.Lee
Lopez

or

Harris
C.Lee
Gay
Favors
Lopez

Basically I want to keep the youth movement going and guys like Boozer, JJ, Amare aren't going to put us over the top so guys like D.Lee, Gay, and another lotto pick is the route I think we should take. My dream lineup next year (following the notion the we aren't getting a stud), and I don't want to over pay for guys who are aging and won't bring us to the top. Harris is gone for Ford (2011 expiring if he picks up his option) and the IND pick.

Wall
X.Henry
Gay
D.Lee
Lopez

Bench:
Ford
C.Lee
T.Will
CDR
Yi
Dallas pick (a big like Lawai or Parakhouski)
our 2nd (another shooter or big)

We then have a diverse/talented/young starting 5 with a deep bench and if anybody becomes available then we would have the talent to make a trade and add our allstar stud or to sign and trade for Melo next year becasue we still will have some cap room left over. Does that answer your question?

I'll choose scenario number 2.

Scenario #2 with $53M Salary Cap

Keep: Harris, Lee, Yi, Lopez, T-Will, Dooling, CDR
Get rid of: Boone (renounce rights), Humphries (buyout)
Draft: Evan Tuner, Jarvis Varnado, Dexter Pittman
Sign: Brendan Haywood, LeBron James

Starters...........................Bench

Devin Harris......................Keyon Dooling
Evan Turner......................Courtney Lee
LeBron James....................Terrance Williams/Chris Douglas-Roberts
Brendan Haywood................Yi Jianlian/Jarvis Varnado
Brook Lopez......................Dexter Pittman

Why buy Humphries out?? It would still count towards the cap and you're basically throwing away a semi valueable expiring contract.

I would do a few things. Unless we get a premier free agent, which we won't, save the cap space for 2011 or for a few trades to gather a few first rounders, like the Thunder did. Secondly, trade the Dallas pick and whatever necessary to move up and pick Greg Monroe. And thirdly, pick up either Turner or Wall, and if neither are avaible when we pick, try and trade the pick for Rubio.

Yeah that thought crossed my mind when I looked back at it. You're probably right about that.

Did I add the numbers wrong, am I over the cap? How can we work it so that it would work.

Wall is the key. . . With Wall and Lopez, LBJ while still an extreme long shot remains still in play. Without Wall no Lebron. Then we go to the next senerio with Turner

Harris
Wade
Turner
Make a huge push for Josh Smith if we could pry him away from ATL if they blow it up by losing JJ
Lopez

Smith for Yi/T.WIll/CDR/2nd or Yi/T.WIll/2011 1st. something like that might do it

Just wondering but would you guys give up Harris if you were getting possible a top 5 pick in this draft

I'd like to know what the filler is in such a trade, but if you can get yourself a second lottery pick for Harris, I think you almost certainly have to pull the trigger.

Care to explain what team/deal you had in mind here?

I dont really I just wondered I been a big fan of Harris ever since college and I always want him on my team and I wish we could make some deals so that he would fit on this team. Pistons by the way but with Gordon/Stuckey/Hamilton/Bynum it would be tough to add another guard into that mix but if DET could trade Hamilton/Prince and then trade for Harris we could have a Stuckey/Harris backcourt with Gordon off the bench.

Okay.

Pistons are a tricky team. Most of your filler for such a deal has contracts a lot longer than I'd want anything to do with. But at the same time, while overpaid, guys like Hamilton contribute enough that I doubt you want to throw them overboard either in a deal where you're already giving up a lotto pick.

Really all depends.

If we can get a big name free agent then you build around that but if we can only get the David Lee's of the market then I say go Thunder still and build around a group of 20-24 year olds.

Where do we turn if we end up with the 3rd or 4th pick?
