Can Cleveland get Maggette and Jamison?
I keep hearing that Cleveland may use Wally's contract as a tradable asset. If that's the case, why not complete the Jamison & (Mike) James deal and then ship off Wally's contract for Maggette? If you could add Jamison and Maggette for only Jamario Moon, that would be outstanding. If this is a possibility, why not? All three teams are helped by this deal.
Cavs Roster:
PG Mo Williams/Delonte West/Daniel Gibson
SG Anthony Parker/Danny Green
SF Lebron James/Corey Maggette
PF Antawn Jamison/JJ Hickson/Leon Powe
C Shaquille O'Neal/Anderson Varejao

The question to ask is Maggette worth his contract? That answer is split about 50/50. Now ask is Maggette worth double his contract. If we took on Maggette for Wally, we'd be paying double because of the lux tax. That's why it's not plausible. If it was someone that fit better, had a shorter contract, etc, then yes, it becomes more plausible (Jrich is a decent example).

If we are spending that money why not get Amare and J Rich?
But I do agree that IF we make a move it will be a Jamison, and a wing player using Wally's contract.
I can see that....

To be honest, I am not against going after Maggette in addition to Jamison. One of biggest issues against the Magic in the playoffs what the inability for our bench to put up points. A second unit of West/Gibson/Maggette/Hickson/Varejao would be fun to watch. Opposing teams would never get a break on the defensive end between that lineup and a starting lineup of Mo/Parker/LeBron/Jamison/Shaq. How well can Maggette defend? More importantly, is Gilbert willing to spend that much money?
Well at least we're not Detroit!

I am not really trying to justify his contract this way, but look at the contract that we gave Hughes. To me, Maggette is more the player that Cleveland though Hughes would be. He shoots a better percentage than Hughes, gets to the line at a very good rate, but again my question stands, can Maggette defend? I don't see why he can't, he's pretty quick and overpower just about every SG in the league. Maggette is comfortable coming off the bench, so I would see him as that sixth man scorer that we have been sorely lacking.

Maggette is pretty amazing he is shooting 52%fg and 20ppg and 84%ft and over 8 free throw attempts per game.

Re: Can Cleveland get Maggette and Jamison?
Ok so we have to add the Nellie factor but I think that if he is 1st off the bench, he can still get 15ppg, even with Lebron on the floor most of the time. The truth is he is doing so well this season because the floor is spread out and teams cant really double team. Maggette even though a career loser has been a decent passer. He would get a lot of one on one with Lebron on the floor and would post a lot if playing the SG which I think would hurt a lot of teams. He would likely be the go-to scorer when Lebron is on the bench(unless we have Amare).
I dont worry about his defense because if Brown could make Wally look decent on D with no tools to speak of, I think Maggette will be more than alright. Also I thought he would have trouble playing in a system where he played C/PF most of the time rather than SG/SF but GS runs so much I dont even worry. I would hope he can get the Sasha syndrome where hopefully playing defense against the best player in the league in practice makes you that much better when actually playing top wings in game situations.

I think you forget what teams were doing when Szczerbiak was on the floor. Every single play was run to go at him on defense.

Re: Can Cleveland get Maggette and Jamison?
But that's just it, Wally's inability to defend did not hurt this team...Drew Gooden's inability to defend did not hurt this team... JJ's inability to defend doesn't hurt this team..
Only two guys I have seen really compromise us on some nights was Damon Jones and currently Mo Williams... In a couple of our losses this year I truly felt Mo's defense was a huge difference maker... Most notably the loses to Charlotte, Memphis, Chicago and Utah...He's allowed way too much dribble penetration...
However, Maggette is not someone I worry about defensively... It's really only the PG's that can hurt us from a defensive standpoint the way this particular team schemes defensively...
With that said, I really don't want him...

The Cav's are in a win now mode. If we get Amar'e or Jamison, also getting Meggett would make the Cav's clear favorites. Those who don't want Meggett need to look at what he could do for the Cav's.He could play the 6th man role of scorer off the bench. He could be the 2nd teams scorer. He could be the SG's defensive stopper. he could play SF when they play small ball. He gets to th foul line very often. If we give up Wally in S & T for Meggett & 2nd round pick, we would be on our way.

Re: Can Cleveland get Maggette and Jamison?
Thinking from a chemistry point of view, it would be a mistake to pick up Maggette. He's the type of player that prefers to be one of the top three scoring option on a team. He's not going to get that role in Cleveland, so he might end up sulking instead of contributing.

Re: Can Cleveland get Maggette and Jamison?
Danny Ferry really hit a home run with this deal. I was not a huge fan of trading away Jamario Moon or any additional pieces due to chemistry concerns. The team will basically get Jamision for nothing assuming Big Z resigns with the Cavs. More importantly, you preserve your youth in keeping JJ Hickson. It will be much easier to integrate one player into the rotation instead of multiple guys. As a Cavs fan, you could not be more excited after this move. Undoubtedly, this is the deepest Cavs team we have ever seen.
