Re: Memphis-Utah-Philly Proposal
Maybe one of the worst proposals I've ever seen on here.
Both Gasol and Thabeet by themselves, especially Gasol, have more value than Boozer. The two of them combined, along with a lottery pick, absolutely destroy Boozer and his expiring contract's value. It's not even close. You really think Boozer will get you that kind of return?
And I haven't even taken into account how unbalanced our new lineup would be. You really think we would be willing to sport a Boozer/Randolph frontcourt? That would probably be the worst defensive frontcourt of all time.
Again, this is one of the worst Grizzlies trade proposals I have ever seen on here.

Re: Memphis-Utah-Philly Proposal
Don't really want Thabeet. He just made the numbers work.
If Boozer for Gasol (and a possible mid to late 1st) is the worst trade that you have ever seen, then you havn't seen many trades. I was giving Memphis the benefit of the doubt, thinking that you guys might make the playoffs this year. But if it were a lottery pick, then it would be better for Memphis to hold on to it. However: Boozer >> Gasol

Re: Memphis-Utah-Philly Proposal
So Memphis keeps Thabeet, and adds other filler to make the numbers work. Memphis keeps their pick. Utah substitues the NY pick and send it to Philly.
Utah gives up Boozer and likely a top 6 pick and gets Marc and Iggy. Maybe I'm up in the night, but it seems to be a decent deal for Memphis.

Re: Memphis-Utah-Philly Proposal
This proposal is garbage - sorry finnegan. In all seriousness, Marc's about a close to untouchable as anybody on the Grizz.
Oh and Boozer is not >> than Gasol. Better, yes, but much better, no. Marc is a pure center. Boozer is a PF. The Grizz already have a PF that is playing better than Boozer this season and whose numbers are comparable for his career in Zach. So that would mean either playing Boozer or Zach out of position at C. Now, on common element found in both Boozer and Zach is their weakness on D. Marc and Zach compliment each other well.

Re: Memphis-Utah-Philly Proposal
gasol is maybe the most "untouchble" player in our roster.

Re: Memphis-Utah-Philly Proposal
I'm pretty high on Marc myself, but when I proposed that he was one of the "elite" big men in the league, I just about got laughed out of town.
I clearly believe that he has a bright future, but many others (semingly in the West) either don't know about him, or simply consider him to be an upper mid-tier player. Only time will tell!

I don't know if I would call it "Garbage." Seems more reasonable than the Ronnie Brewer for nothin proposal.
Just an outsider perspective, which I believe is somewhat objective, and I hope that you will find useful.
Memphis will be extremely difficult to transact any trades with this year, and possibly for the next few years for two reasons:
1) You only have 2-3 players that other teams would be interested in, but they are all way underpaid. So it is really difficult to make the numbers work for comparable trade values, and once they get pay raises, then the "Base Year Compensation" stuff will kick in, which makes getting comparable value for a young player even more difficult.
2) Emerging teams tend to overvalue the players that took them from level A to level B. Clearly ZBo ain't going anywhere, and he certainly deserves a good portion of the credit for the improvement in Memphis, but what about the other players??? They're good enough to get you close to the playoffs, but are they good enough to base your entire future on, or to get you from an eighth seed to a fourth seed?
I don't know the answer to that, but there are lots of teams that have a big improvement (Chicago), then overpay their players (Luol Deng, etc.), and things fall back off once they get their big paychecks.
I'm not saying this is going to happen in Memphis, but you guys are in a very difficult situation. Good enough to spend good amounts of money, but not good enough to be significant. Also number and pay scales that are veeeeerrrryyy difficult to work with.
I'll keep watching, because I consider myself more a student of the team, than a student of the game.

Terrible fit and (taking into account Boozer can walk after playing half a season with the Grizz) terrible value: I don't see the incentive for Memphis to do this deal from any angle.

And nobody on this board made that proposal - may have posted it for discussion, but that came from an NBA beat writer. If you want to whine about that, contact Ron Tillery at the Commercial Appeal.

Finnegan - stop being condescending and go away - please. You stopped being helpful a while back.

Actually I count 5. Marc, Rudy and OJ on one level, but Conley and Thabeet have value. All are on rookie contracts though - I'll give you that.

With a little more seasoning and some bench help - yes.

Would you enlighten me as to the details of the new CBA, seeing as you seem to know the future.
Look - you made a BAD proposal, give it up. I dig most of the folks on the Jazz boards, but you're wearing really thin...

View the world as you wish.
As far as the Grizzlies -- que sera sera (whatever will be, will be).
I was wrong about Atlanta when they paid such a high price for Joe Johnson, and certainly no one can predict the future.
But I maintain my points that:
1) It will be very difficult for any team to execute a trade with Memphis, because their tradeable players are significantly underpaid.
2) You're current core is good enough to break into the playoffs, but not take them to the next level. (which also hurts your draft picks each year).
Signing out!

Re: Memphis-Utah-Philly Proposal
Right now, we don“t need to trade our players to get what we need. We have a few expirings along cap space. This should fullfil our needs

Re: Memphis-Utah-Philly Proposal
from a boston fan that's a very dumb trade. boozer < gasol (imho) and with z playing the best he ever has you stick him with boozer(ima cancer that money can cure.)
Oh and 2 players people want uh try arthur, conley, mayo, gasol, and gay and to be frank the verdict is still out on the rooks but I like young and carroll too. I'd love tohave any of those guys on my celts.
three draft picks coming and 12 roster spot at 47 mill next year. memphis is moving up not down.
not trolling its trade deadline and was seeing what others were doing/dreaming and stumbled on this gem of a trade and couldn't help myself, sorry..
