Even if we do give him one, how do we make the team better? Lopez and Dragic will get better, but their gain will be canceled out by Nash/HIll's decline. Looks like we will just be 6th seed level for a while if we extend Amare and change nothing.
What likely happens now is we're screwed and he walks for nothing this summer. I would be shocked if we end up doing a sign-and-trade in the offseason. I think what's more likely than a sign-and-trade is that he gets extended or some team steps up at the last minute to take Amare today.
If they can't trade him, it's in their best interest to extend him and trade him perhaps after next season.
I honestly just want us to agree to an extension before the season is over, at this point. I am psyched about keeping Amar'e and want to build around what we have, not around JJ Hickson etc. Dragic will end up our PG of the future, Lopez our C of the future, EC/Duds hopefully our SF

Interesting take from Hardwood Paroxysm:
http://www.hardwoodparoxysm.com/2010/02 ... #more-5870
You can catch my thoughts for Cleveland at FanHouse, but here’s the gist: CLEVELAND FTW. I’ve been saying this for a while. And while I totally get that getting Amar’e had the most potential for the franchise, I look at it this way. The Suns have had ample opportunity to take advantage of trading Amar’e. They were given a good offer. The deal was on the table. And they waffled. The Suns wobble-wobble on moves like this and pull the trigger immediately on ditching picks for cash, when they should do the opposite. And the Cavs had to ask themselves, “Are the Suns going to get themselves together before 3PM tomorrow or the Wizards pull Jamison off the table, or before someone else comes in and crashes the party and grabs Jamison?” And the answer was probably not. The Suns felt they were in the bargaining chair. They put Amar’e out on the block, have undermined his position with the team for two seasons, and then when people said “Well, if he’s available, yeah we can talk…” the Suns jumped up from the table, stormed out of the room saying “You want him, so OBVIOUSLY he’s worth way more than what you’re offering!” even though the only reason teams were talking to them is because they lowered his value. If I’m Danny Ferry I’m looking at the Suns and saying, “No way these geniuses figure out what they want in 24 hours. Pull the trigger, let’s get Jamison and call it a day.” And that looks to me like what they did. They got the guy they knew they could get, for less. No Hickson gone, Z’s probably back in 30 days, and the pick was useless anyway. Meanwhile, the Cavs now have Lebon James and Antawn Jamison running the pick and roll with Shaq cleaning up the mess. We’re talking a devastating combo, and now all of a sudden the Cavs have someone they can throw out at Orlando and say “spread this.” Lakers fans aren’t scared of this move, because, well, in 05 and06 they weren’t scared of anyone else, either. But this does drive another splinter in the wooden oracle the Lakers have erected around themselves. Kobe’s hurt. He gets a pass. But the rest of that team better recognize they can no longer just out-talent their way to a title.

Re: Alll Amare Talk Here: Thread 7
From ESPN's Marc Stein:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4924306
Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver has informed All-Star center Amare Stoudemire that he is unlikely to be dealt before Thursday's 3 p.m. ET trading deadline.
In an e-mail Thursday morning to ESPN.com, Sarver confirmed reports in the Arizona Republic and on FanHouse.com that he met privately with Stoudemire after Wednesday's loss in Dallas to let him know that the Suns are no longer looking to move him.
Stoudemire's agent, Happy Walters, echoed that view in an interview Thursday morning with ESPN.com's Chad Ford, saying: "The better [Stoudemire] played over the last couple of weeks, the more emboldened the team got with trades. Anything can happen, but is seems unlikely."
Stoudemire has averaged 26.6 points and 11.7 rebounds the past seven games and started for the West in Sunday's All-Star Game.
The Cleveland Cavaliers pursued Stoudemire hard in recent days at the behest of LeBron James, but pulled out of talks with the Suns Wednesday afternoon and swung a three-team deal instead for Washington's Antawn Jamison -- when Phoenix told the Cavs it wasn't ready to commit to a Stoudemire trade.

My guess is Kerr was miffed that they (Amare and his agent) put it out there that a trade was likely, hence turning up the heat for the Cavs to make a move one way or another and ruining all of the Suns' leverage.
The situation was poorly handled by Kerr and Sarver. They lose their trade leverage and managed to upset/offend Amare likely beyond the point of being able to work out an extension.

I think the plan for the remainder of the year is to just make the playoffs, and next year Suns will have more leverage with Jason Richardson's contract expiring. When teams like Philly, Warriors, still remain lower tier teams they will want to get rid of their long term contracts. I bet next season we'll see a Jason Richardson for Andre Iguadala trade. Philly will try and pry away Lopez or Clark, but the Suns won't budge on that, however Suns might give up their 2012 First Round Pick.
Then next season the lineup after February will be...
Nash/Dragic
Iggy/Barbosa
Clark/Dudley
Amare/Amundson
Lopez/Frye
Though I'm actually not sure if Frye is going to stick around next season. If not, its no biggie. Kerr will finally see his plan go through of getting hardworking blue collar type guys. Again, maybe the Suns can get another center like Kurt Thomas instead of Frye.
Alright, dream is over.

I think he is willing to regardless of "tense" convos by Kerr and Happy Walters.
He and his agent are asking for 14M for 4 yrs, which is reasonable. Suns put 14M for 2 on the table. Not far off. Like I said before, they need to compromise.

Re: Alll Amare Talk Here: Thread 7
The deal from Cleveland was crap. An expiring contract of Z (prob just bought out - useless in the Suns system), a young player with a ceiling of being the 7th guy on a playoff team (Hickson) and what amounts to an early 2nd round pick. Wow, what a devastating blow to the Suns that they didn't accept that. There's a reason numerous national media members without a dog in the fight called the offer a "poo poo platter".
One of the following will now happen:
1. Suns will extend Amare at the option + either 3 or 4 years at $14 mil per.
2. Amare will pick up his option and the Suns will trade him in the offseason to a team willing to give him the 4-year extension he wants in item 1.
3. Amare will pick up his option and we will go through this again next season.
All three of these options are better than the crap sandwich Cleveland was offering.
To those of you saying Amare will walk and decline his option, there is just no way. If he did that, Amare would leave $17+ mil for next season on the table when the most he can make as an FA is $13. He can get 5 years and $75 million (17 option + 4 @ 14 per) if he picks up his option. If he declines, the most he will be able to make is $60-65 million. Plus, he will need to find a team with $13 mil in open cap space to sign him (you're looking at New Jersey and a few other crap teams). It would be an awful business move for him to decline the option.
In the end, I think he picks up the option and the Suns extend him for 3-4 seasons @ $14 per. It's a fair deal for all sides and Phoenix can use Richardson's expiring contract next season (and Barbosa) to add a key missing piece if they wish.

How did you not win a championship with Bron Bron in the last 6 years. Cleveland is cursed and doesn't matter who Lebron is teamed up with they wont win a championship. They even had their chance in the finals against the Spurs 3 years ago and got manhandled 4-0. Lebron best option is to bolt to New York team up with Gallo, Lee and etc get some few great players in the offseason which Knicks can sign and be a powerhouse in no time.
