Cromartie update: traded to Jets

Post#1 » by LarryHarris » Wed Feb 17, 2010 5:59 pm

Would Brandon Jackson get this done? Would you do it?

Among the teams that have running back depth are the Dallas Cowboys with Marion Barber, Felix Jones and Tashard Choice at the position. Several teams are looking for cornerback depth, including the Green Bay Packers, sources said.

We have no untradable running backs. And we need CB's.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I personally don't like Cromartie but if TT did Jackson for Cromartie I wouldn't be that upset with it and think we would get the better of that deal.

The only thing is that throughout the course of the season, it seemed that Rodgers kept mentioning how well Jackson was doing re: blocking and intangibles. Seems like Aaron likes the guy. Still, it would be a nice way to get a look at a young CB who could play an important future role here...

Oh I don't really want to make the trade. I like the role and job that Jackson fills on our team. I just meant it wouldn't be a terrible move on our part. I would prefer to keep Jackson over Cromartie but in the grand scheme of things Jackson is more replaceable than a lot of guys on our roster so it wouldn't kill me to see this move made.

Cromartie is soft as butter, but he's a good cover corner and i'd be shocked if they couldn't get more for him than a backup RB.

I would trade Jackson for Cromartie in a second.

I'm actually kinda shocked that the Chargers would even consider that deal to be honest.Brandon is always doing one of two things,he's either nursing an injury or he's on the field looking mediocre at best.

Cromartie is pretty solid starting quality CB and still only 25.

Trade Jackson for Cromartie and then sign Chester Taylor.

We'd upgrade our RB and CB depth significantly with those two moves.

I would do this. We can get a player of Jackson's caliber in the draft. He's not that good. We can then also focus on other needs in the draft, especially a tackle.

^^ I think Taylor would be a nice upgrade over Jackson at the backup spot. Not only are we not losing anything in the receiving end but Taylor can run, too.

Since I brought up Cromartie's availability & suggested trade up a month ago - I'm in favor.
Even with his flaws, Cromartie would be tied as our 2nd best CB.
I like idea of Taylor signing.

Jackson would be a steal. Doubt that happens. Maybe with a 5th.
Even still Chargers want a better RB.
They'd be better off signing Chester & trading Cromartie for a pick.

Even Al Harris has missed tackles and has looked bad doing it. So?

I'm not saying Cromartie isn't a superior talent, but there's something wrong with the fact that while Cromartie appears to be allergic to tackling guys that are either his size or about 20 lbs heavier than him, Brandon Jackson is perfectly willing to stand in and take on a menacing linebacker that has 40 lbs on him. And at least Al Harris tries to tackle and help in run support (and is above average at it for a corner).

Packers are offering grant for cromartie and draft pick. Packers want a 2nd or 3rd. Chargers only want to give up a fifth.

I'd do Grant & a 5th for Cromartie, obviously if the Packers could talk them into a higher pick that would be great.

The fact the Packers are willing to trade Grant makes me think they might indeed make a strong push to sign Chester Taylor.

If I had to choose between the two I'd take Taylor over Grant.

If we were to trade Grant, I would think our draft strategy changes. There's no way I'm comfortable signing what will be a 31 year old Chester Taylor entering his 9th season in the league and letting him carry the load the way Grant has (and did so solidly this year).

And I take Grant over Taylor probably 8 times out of 10.

Apparently Cro has a half-dozen kids with a number of a different women and is late on child support payments.

Between the desire for a new contract, the soft play, the lack of effort and what it would take to get him I'm thinking it isn't worth it.

I was just coming to post a link to that story:

At least 7 kids with 6 different women in 5 states. Personally I don't like idiots like that so now I want him even less. I mean how hard is it to use a damn condom.

IF Cro is as (Please Use More Appropriate Word) as suggested then maybe not. Character is important. But maybe small town GB will change him as it has others. He's a dam good cover guy. With Tramon starting Cro is (often used) nickel where less run plays occur. Cro tackles receivers just fine although they don't catch that many on him.

I only trade Grant for Cro if its with a 3rd min coming back.

I'm good w/
Grant & 6th for Cro & 3rd

I'm better w/
Grant & 4th for Cro & 2nd
