Rockets actually tried to trade for Amare just before trade deadline (i read some speculation is battier+Scola+1 pick). I won't be surprised they will go after Amare in off season and if that happen, I believe Les will be willing to pay the lux tax for. They can also go after Bosh too.

For those of you who didn't watch the press conference, here is what Morey said regarding the 2010 free agency.

Morey said
NY consider Jeffries someone they need to get rid of for their summer plans to be set up. It was something that was important to them. NY did the right thing based on what their plans were.....

I think there are now 8 teams that can chase free agents, not necessarily 8 free agents and some of the teams are trying for 2.

I don't think we're out of it.(2010) In our opinion we're more in it. We dont know where they going to go, i can't talk about specific players but for those players just to sign with the teams they have to give up 30 million dollars. I don't know too many players that are willing to do that, now they might but i think most of those players will go in sign and trade. Now we like the players that we have but we'll have an opportunity there to add those players in sign and trade over summer.

I don't think we're out of it, i actually think we're more in it. In general the whole idea of creating room is very hard to use. Once you use it you don't have mid level, you lose your bi annual, you lose all those abilities to add all other players. They make the rules very hard to use room thats why pretty much all the big names are always moved by sign and trade.... If you go back you'll see that they pretty much go all through sign and trade because the players have to give up so much and the league rules are so tilted toward doing things through trade so we went that route. We had a choice to go either way and we chose this way.

He also said he'll do something shocking and the Rockets will be over the luxury tax next year. I think he's going to try to do a sign and trade using NY's assets for a big name this summer.

In Morey we believe, I smell Chris Paul type of player.

I think Chris Bosh is Morey's primary target.

Red94 has an nice article about Morey's Moment. Very nice read :D

http://hocmx.th8.us/

On Thursday night, ESPN’s Marc Stein reported that the Rockets had made a late push for Amare Stoudemire, offering Shane Battier, Luis Scola, draft picks, and Brian Cook in the 11th hour. ESPN’s J.A Adande later reported that it was the Rockets who backed away as Phoenix wanted to waive the requisite physical examinations.

What the report reveals is the team’s intent. Armed with a shopping cart of assets—the picks, the expiring contracts of Battier/Jeffries, Scola (in a sign&trade), and young talent galore–Morey will likely offer a similar package to the Raptors and Suns in attempts to reopen talks for their coveted power forwards, this time for a sign&trade.

I hate to say I told you so, so I'll just quote what I told you..... :D
You fools!!! Have you really learned nothing? First off let me state that if it wasn't for Morey's ingenious mind, we wouldn't have had Landry to begin with. Everybody passed on this undersized, injury prone player. Now don't get me wrong, I LOVED watching Carl play. He was one of my favorite Rockets. But lets be real here, he was a fan favorite because of his effort, not because of his All Star play. He put up above average numbers for someone getting the PT he was getting. Its not like we traded away a perennial all-star or something. He's not getting into the HOF, so stop crying already. He was good, but that was it. He wasn't great. On a pure numbers standpoint, he wasn't even better than Scola. He can and will be replaced.
Secondly, how many times must you see before you realize you need not second guess the Morey. He's right, he's always right. How often has he done something that made zero sense at first, but came together so beautifully when it was all said and done. Heck, half of you guys were hating even the thought of Chase at draft time, and how many of y'all (including me) are on his top now. To be all the way real, I hated the Landry pick at first.
Just give it some time, even if it doesn't turn into another deal. Trust that Morey is smarter than you, and his scope of the "bigger picture" is better than yours. Goodness gracious, how many miracles must he perform before you realize he is the NBA Messiah?

Great value, but Landry, plays pretty damn close to and could be a shorter Amare for us and will probably knock the **** out of us when we play the Kings.

This move is just unbelievably awesome on so many levels.

We improve drastically this season. KMart brings what we need most right now, a scorer, a freaking efficient scorer. He's not doing so well this season, but he thrived in Adelman's system, and I think he's going to be awesome next to so many unselfish, hardworking players. Martin's arrival will free up Ariza and (to a certain extent) Brooks (though I'm a bit worried about our backcourt's defense). He's a bit injury prone, but it seems that his injuries are mostly minor ones, and don't occur to the same part of his body repeatedly (T'-Mac's back, anyone?).Hill is a downgrade over Landry, and he's really raw, but he's got athleticism and size, and I absolutely trust Morey's judgment. Jeffries' contract stinks, but he's not too bad a player, I'm sure he can provide some help at the four.

We are all set for the future. Those picks might not end up being too high, but Morey is unbelievable at finding great players near the end of the first round. Also, if we can't contend next season, we'll be well along the rebuilding process with the extra pick, and with Yao, Battier (I think?) and Jeffries coming off the books.

We have the potential to be big players in the 2010 FA Sweepstakes, like Moery said. Sign and trade is definitely the way the Boshes and Amares of this world want to go, and we've got a plethora of young talent, great role players, and picks. it sounds like the Suns were actually close to taking the deal Morey offered before the deadline, and I'm sure Morey will work his magic again this summer. He hasn't made one bad decision yet, and like College Boy said, we should have complete and unwavering faith in the NBA Messiah.

(BTW, does anyone else find it weird that the Suns have tried to move Amare at the deadline 2nd year in a row, but still ended up keeping him?)
