Game Threads are Back BABY!! Denver Wiz Friday GT

Post#1 » by GhostsOfGil » Fri Feb 19, 2010 2:23 pm

A lot of ppl calling for new individual game threads and I agree! The NEW WIZ KIDS host the nugs at the Verizon Center.

Friday 19th 2010
7:00pm tip off

so far it has not yet been reported whether al thortan will be in tonights line up.
lets see if blatche can continue his hot shooting against a much more formidable front court

nba.com game preview

"Before Thursday's trading deadline, they sent Dominic McGuire to Sacramento for a second-round draft pick and cash considerations.

The moves cleared enough salary cap space for the Wizards, who may not have suspended guard Gilbert Arenas back before the start of next season, to go after a marquee free agent. Among those prized players who could be available are James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Joe Johnson.

"Unfortunately, our on-court results have not met our expectations," general manager Ernie Grunfeld told the team's Web site. "We felt it was necessary to make changes to improve our future and financial flexibility."

Amid those changes, Andray Blatche scored a career-high 33 points to lead Washington to a 108-99 victory over visiting Minnesota on Wednesday night.

It's unknown how much of the Wizards' revamped lineup will be available to coach Flip Saunders as Washington tries to also end a three-game home streak to the Nuggets."

The Nuggs will put-up some big numbers tonight, may they have mercy on us. Please don't let the beatdown be too-severe.

Look for Martin to see how flagrant he can get with McGee and Blatche. Look for Singleton and Oberto to retaliate. 50/50 Wizards win by 2 or lose by 20+. Either way, I'll be waiting for the "Teddy" chant in the 4th, although if it's a close game, I might not have a voice left.

Happy to sticky this thread. It's been a while.

I'll keep the "Gamethread for the rest of the season" open but unsticky it, just in case we can't get threads for every game.

I don't know about you guys, but the last game was the most fun I had watching a Wiz game in years (seeing all the young guys get burn) and at least some hustle.

I plan on watching tonight...for the first time this season (since the beginning), I am excited for the Wiz again.

agreed! i hope oberto starts with mcgee coming off the bench. i think mcgee will be more beneficial to the team if he goes against denver's 2nd unit. last game, we were forced to play catch up because mcgee got pooped on by jefferson in that first quarter. against an experienced denver team with a solid front court, it wont be as easy.

Only hope for a win is if Denver comes out flat and exhausted after last night's VERY impressive win in Cleveland. [Lebron was amazing, but the rest of the crew wasn't good enough.] Denver looks like a final 4 team to me.

The good news is that it isn't about winning anymore. The rest of the season is measured in youth progress.

That's how I see this game too. Either this Wizards team has some potential and can take advantage of a chance to sneak up on a good team or the promise from the last game was based on the level of competition.

Wiz beat Minny because Minny is awful. They'll only beat Denver if Denver is exhausted.

I agree on the basic idea, though my personal number is more like 15/85.

I love Denver's lineup. 2-way athletes at every position. Billups and KMart are 2 players who are way better than their numbers suggest.

I'll be interested to see how our young front line holds up against theirs. Especially Blatche, K-Mart is a very good defensive player so we'll see if 7-Day-Dray can bring it again. I have a feeling Nene is going to abuse Javale though.

Denver could be on the 5th game of a back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back and they'd still crush us by 20+.

Nothing against the Wiz kidz, but at our most rested, we're not going to compete with a top team.

just made the identical comment over in the 7dd resurg thread.

I hope Howard isn't hungover. He's had time to learn where the bars are.

Melo could seriously go off again.

I think I read someplace Thornton won't be here tonight.
That's one less body to throw at Melo.

+1 Denver is a well-oiled machine, their 2nd unit could take us and I expect to see a lot of thier 2nd unit. I just want to see a scrappy, fighting effort on our part.

Lets not act like them Denver boys bring the D all that well either. I think Blatche can eat K-Mart for breakfest. He's confident now and playing the tradiotional 4 role while being the #1 option so he finally gets to play inside & out. Its easier to do that when you get your touches.

There is also no way I think McGee should come off the bench. How can you guys say that? Again, let these guys play. Even if he gets abused its for the best and in most cases he's the type of guy who can get abused but still get his own to the point where he balances out some. I also think that Denver is a running team that gives up points so if Foye plays the point right then I think McGee will again put up numbers.

It will be more interesting to see who starts between NY & Howard. I believe that we may start Howard after NY bombed last game, we also probably want him matching up against Melo, and we just want to get a full look at him anyways. Then we can come off the bench with Boykins, NY, Thorton, & Singleton in a good 9 man rotation. Despite what I said though, Im a bigger Oberto fan than most and I think he is highly underrated and plays very good D so I wont be upset no matter what Flip does but if anyone is bombing then he shoud pull them quick, unless its McGee

I've just watched a video where Saunders indicated that Al might play tonight. Thorton arrived late last night and was able to practice with the team today.

I don't know about Al playing tonight.
Arlington, Va.: Wait, so exactly who is on the Wizards now? I'm starting to wonder who is even going to play ...

Michael Lee: You know what's funny? I don't think anybody knows who is going to play. As you know, Antawn Jamison, Brendan Haywood, Caron Butler, DeShawn Stevenson and Dominic McGuire all got traded.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas is going to be here this afternoon, but he is seeking a buyout. Drew Gooden was traded before he had the change to get a cup of coffee. Mike James could get bought out.

But the Wizards still have Josh Howard, James Singleton and Quinton Ross from Dallas. The remaining players are Andray Blatche, Nick Young, JaVale McGee, Mike Miller, Randy Foye, Earl Boykins and Fabricio Oberto. Al Thornton just got here, but he had to watch shootaround.

I'm sure this is exactly the group everybody expected to have during training camp.
