Re: DMAC traded!
I just saw on ESPN that we were the ones to pay them and that the pick has enough conditions on it that we might not actually get it. So essentially, the Kings get a free look at McGuire for a couple of months, and we gave up a little money now to save bigger money on the buyout. The pick is a bit of a bummer, but it still seems win-win (or win-win-lose, if you want to throw Ilgauskas in there).

so do we get the friggin pick or not? What kind of conditions can there be on a second round pick? If it rains on the third Saturday of April we don't get it?

I still haven't been able to figure that bit out, but I'd guess we don't
But actually, lots of 2nd rounders have conditions on them across the league:

Ok, I did not know that.

CCJ's gotta like this. We'll get a Millsap, a Blair, and a Boozer - plus a high lotto pick.

I feel like starting an Ernie MFing Grunfeld thread! Only, to say good things.
Dude really turned it around the last two days!!!!

I like DMac, but all things considered this move appears to make sense, even if we don't end up with the 2nd rounder.

Since when are 2nd rounders protected?
Irregardless, this is probably EG's best move since trading Kwame for Caron.
Good job Lyrical.
Irregardless ???? what is that ?

..I can't stand it either, but Dat loves to use it/
Wikipedia says
Irregardless is an informal term meaning regardless or irrespective, which has caused controversy since it first appeared in the early twentieth century. Most dictionaries list it as "incorrect" or "nonstandard".

It turns out the 2nd round pick probably is conditional, afterall. That's what the Washington Post now calls it - though I couldn't find what the "condition" is. If anyone knows, please post it in this thread.

From what I've read, the condition is "when hell freezes over."

Awesome - looks like we get it this year after all!

You might want to hold off on that thread, CCJ. Ernie was only kidding about the Sacro pick.

Re: DMAC traded!
So we go from selling picks to buying imaginary picks j/k
Seriously I understand the rationale for the deal, but I like the fire sale a whole lot less with only one added pick. Leonsis seems like a guy willing to open up the pocketbook for a winner. Hopefully if there is a Blair-like 2nd rounder the GM can buy a pick to get him.
