How does the SAN faithful feel about Rip Hamilton and Chris Wilcox for RJ & McDyess?

I think you guys need to start looking at tearing it up trade and get some draft picks and start building for the future. You had a great run and should be proud of that but you're players are getting old and have been through a lot of wars. Im a mavs fan and unlike the spurs we didn't do everything we needed to win a championship we have maybe 2 years left and if we don't do it then we get to go through the rebuilding process with no hardware. Miami bought a championship in 06 and has paid dearly for it since but I would rather go through some bad years to win a ring then to never have won it.

That's what trading for Jeffersons garbage expiring contract is all about. We'll take McDyess' 2nd year on for the trouble.

Why would Detroit want Dice back? And why would anyone want RJ?

I'm not sure about this trade. Rip's best days are behind him - we have enough of those kinds of players already - and I've never thought much of Wilcox.

I've seen RJ takes too many long jumpers to think that maybe a shooter fits our offense better at that position. Problem is, Richard Hamilton isn't a SF and that will just make us smaller.

RJ and Dice's value will be because they're an expiring. Unless those 2 pick up their play before the season ends, I think that's all anyone gonna think when they trade for them. Expirings. They're gonna have more value around the trade deadline next year when it'll be obvious who's trying to cut salary and who's not. Summertime, everyone wants to improve. Trade deadline is when people cut costs.

Wrap up Manu for 4 yrs, bring Splitter over, resign Mason and Bonner to short term deals, let Fin and Mahimni go and I'll be a happy camper.

If we can bring Splitter over, then I'm a happy camper too. But I remember reading elsewhere that Splitter is likely to come in 2-3 years. Right around after Duncan retires. Something with contract issue or whatever.

I remember something about if he came to the NBA like 4 years or something after he got drafted, then his salary won't be bound to the rookie contract or something like that. Cause if he came to the NBA right now, he'd be getting less than a mil/year while he's getting plenty more overseas. I remember that kind of thing being the issue why he's not here.

the current cba states that if a player is drafted, and isnt signed for 3 years after being drafted, then he is no longer bound to the rookie scale, and the team that owns his rights can sign him using their "cap space". and as the cba defines "cap space", that included the MLE. this summer, we can offer splitter a multi-year deal using a portion/all of our MLE.

I have a feeling that if we don't sign Splitter this summer with his opt out, then we may never see him.
It would be nice if we can move RJ, the experiment has failed and regardless of how you wanna look at out improved offense or whatever...he is not producing at a level worth 15 million dollars.
I would like to see another decent backup PG guard signed and maybe free up sometime for Hill to play the offguard, he's seems to be a very good scorer and can really turn into a star in the NBA...giving him some touches where he can concentrate solely on scoring might be decent idea.

We also have he age old problem of the long scoring Small Forward which we seem to have been devoid of since Jax left, and again the same old we need to get younger story and build around the young core that is Hill, Parker, Blair and hopefully Splitter

I really have lost hope for Splitter...

I am fan of Dice and quite honestly I want to keep him.

If we can bring over Splitter and resign Manu i'll be happy. We're also going to have two large expiring next summer in RJ and Dice who we could flip for a bigger name and/or a better fit.

I'm more exicted about what we're gonna do in the draft. We're gonna have a early 20's pick in a very deep and talented draft.

I would like to get Greg Monroe but that isn't realistic... but then again... I never thought Blair would drop as well...

He'll probalby be out of range, but there's still going to be a lot of good players available.

Larry Sanders is a guy I really like. He's raw but he's outstadning defender and shot blocker with a ton of potential.

There's also a slew of young athletic combo fowards that will be in our range as well. Guys like Elias Harris, Paul George and Devin Ebanks.

I also can't predict who's gonna drop in the draft but one player mock drafts definitely have lower than 20 is DaSean Butler and I'd really love to have him - I just love his arsenal of being able to do everything and not demanding the ball on the offensive end. Definitely keep Manu and either bring Splitter or lure Bourousis from Olympiakos. That's my hope for next season.

Splitter drawing interest from Real Madrid for next season: http://www.48minutesofhell.com/2010/02/23/spurs-face-a-possible-bidding-war-for-splitter/

They've got deep pockets. Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

this guy looks like he might be a decent pick up and he's slated to go after our pick as well.

I don't know if we should use our MLE to get Splitter. He maybe a stud in Europe, but I really don't know how well he'll do in NBA particularly in his 1st year. This summer, 7 teams (I read) will have 15+ mil cap room. Assuming 10 players get huge contracts this year, everyone else will only be getting MLE deals. There's a lot of really good players out there to be had at a bargain price of MLE.

I'm a big fan of George. He's a great athlete, solid shooter and he's got star potential. But he needs work, a lot of work.
