According to Tillery's chat this morning they didn't - at least not around the trade deadline.

And keep in mind that Ron's the guy that broke the news about the possible Brewer deal a month ago. Even though I'm not a fan of Tillery's, he tends to be solid on his sourcing. More so than many of the other beat writers and internet experts...

Well Larry Riley of the Warriors is saying differently.

'Riley heard from the Grizzlies in regards to an O.J. Mayo for Ellis trade.'

It's typical denial among both parties when a deal does not go through.

Congrats on getting Ronnie Brewer, I wanted us (Orlando) to get him (especially considering the price).

LOL @ finnegan being oh so damn pompous in telling you guys "there's NO WAY you were getting Brewer, they aren't dumping him."

Damn, I hope you guys enjoy Brewer. He has been a joy to watch, and you guys made out like bandits on this one. You have a scary young team. Nice score for you, sucks for us.

That's how almost all Jazz fans felt after hearing about this rumor. We were all very surprised that it went down, considering our success of late. :(

It's understandable and you guys could've defintely gotten more for him but considering the financial situation and also the fact:

A) He's due for a new contract after this season
B) Wesley Matthews play all season long on a late round rookie scale contract made him expendable

I wanted us to do like a Matt Barnes| 2nd RD Pick for him but oh well....

I wouldn't call a lottery pick in the 10-13 range to be "dumping" Brewer, but I do think that Memphis got the better end of the deal.

1) I thought the protection should have dropped lower in years 4 and 5.
2) I think getting "cash" if we never qualify for the pick pretty much sucks.

Brewer is a starter, getting tons of minutes on a team that is currently one of the best in the West. Just because Brewer was not a lottery pick himself, does not mean he was not worthy of late lottery pick to the jazz. As mentioned above, I think that the Jazz should have held to their guns for protection to decline in years 4-5. Seems 50-50 that we will never get the pick with how tough the West is.

Jazz/Brewer fan here. You guys will love Ronnie. He'll fit in nicely with all of your athletic young guys. He can play D and bring hustle every night. Another great thing is he's been on the playoff stage plenty of times and can bring that experience to your young club.
