We were under the luxury tax, but we would not have been under the cap at all, subtracting the 3 guys that shared the MLE and Foster. That would've put Indy at around $54 million in salaries committed to only 11 players (meaning we'd have to add a couple of minimum salaried guys). That would've put Indy only about $2million under the salary cap. Once again, not enough to take on Jared Jeffries and his $6.5 million salary. Possibly could've then included some side salary to make the numbers work to take on Jeffries, but we wouldn't have had enough to take on Jordan Hill's contract as well, lessening the value of the deal immensely.

We just weren't going to be in that position, without convincing a guy like Drew Gooden to take a ridiculous non-guaranteed deal.

Messed up my math since I knew signing Jones, Jones, and Watson was more than the MLE. Since Pacer management knew that we were rebuilding before the last deadline and that teams would be looking to get under the cap, we could have traded Danials and Jack for an 2010 ending contract plus compensation. Then we would have had that contract plus Deiner to trade NY. Could also have traded Foster in a S&T.

Look at other teams that have rebuilt. Boston had a great plan. OKC/Seattle would have also been a great route to follow. The Blazers did a nice job of recovering after the JailBlazer era, but spent alot of money. You cannot just trade everyone for longer/less talented contracts and call it rebuilding.

Bird is stressing to the media that we need to have patience. After the trade teadline expired I was upset because I am very impatient. Upon further review Larry was one of the most active GM's that night. And for what it is worth he almost pulled off some very nice trades. Regardless, I like where the value currently stands for our players, knowing it will only increase. The wait is sickening but understanding we'll experience progression down the road is comforting. The wait feels a little like the Croshere debacle, right around the time that you could actualy see the light at the end of the tunnel.

CF, Boston has drafted extremely well under Danny A. So well that Ainge was able to parlay all that young talent into Ray and KG. They also put their faith into Rondo, which is paying off. The Celts also get really good vets willing to sign for less.

Danny is a very good GM. Maybe he needs to tutor Larry and Kevin on the finer points of scouting.

Trading some combination of Daniels and Jack would've put us right at, or more likely, over the luxury tax for this season. That's about a $10 million cash swing from where we ended up this season.

If we had made a trade, we then would not have resigned Foster or used our exceptions to keep payroll close to the same.

1st-8 times John Wall
2nd-12 times Evan Turner
3rd- 12 times Demarcus Cousins
4th-none bc there is no possible way we get 4th
5th- 34 times Demarcus Cousins or Ed Davis
6th- 26 times Ed Davis
7th 8 times Al Farouq Aminu

I touted Demarcus before he blew up. This guy is insanely competitive and physically ready from day one. My preferences are; 1A Wall.. 1B Turner .. After that I'd take Cousins because contrary to popular belief we are not set in the post. Losing Murphy, Foster & Solo at once is cause to atleast consider a PF. We could easily address our point guard position with a plethora of seasoned options ( Hinrich, Felton, Conley, Devin Harris, Rubio, Flynn). Like another poster pointed out earlier, if the Nets or Wolves get Wall, then these players could be had. I agree.
