And boom goes the dynamite, Favors with 21 and 18 today against a solid Maryland team.

if he does this consistently thats something

id be careful about using one game to extrapolate on a prospect

Ya it's called the Joe Alexander syndrome.

Cousins was a blackhole for a lot of the game today, but he snapped out of it near the end. Still troubling to see imo.

shangrila wrote:I don't know if this has been said already but when you're looking at Favors and especially when you're comparing him to a guy like Cousins you have to look at his situation. He went to a Georgia Tech team that already has a similar player (Lawal) who's obviously higher up on the food chain (think Darren Collison with Jrue Holiday and Russel Westbrook). On top of that he plays with a backcourt that can barely make a simple entry pass and who look for Lawal 9 times out of 10.

Now I'm not excusing his legitimate concerns, such as his lack of aggression, and for the record I do believe Cousins will likely be picked higher and be better in his first year. But at the same time it's hard to look at Favors' situation and think it's favorable (see what I did there?). At the end of the day I do think Favors will have the better career out of the two but both should be very good players in their primes.

Yes, maybe I jumped the gun a bit, but I just feel for the guy. He gets mislabeled all the time. If what you said in your second paragraph is true, then yes, I see that as a legitimate concern. But you hardly extrapolated on your comments.

The "punch" was nothing more than an elbow. Elbows get thrown on every play of every game. It just felt wrong to accuse the guy of having a criminal past when there hasn't been any smoke off the court. Shoot Tim Tebow did the same "phone call" gesture, and how many people raised a stink on that?

Anyways, thanks for clearing that up.

Ya it's called the Joe Alexander syndrome.

Alexander had more than just one good game. Patrick O'Bryant syndrome would probably be a better name for it.

Towering Cousins

Arkansas coach John Pelphrey on why he would vote Kentucky freshman forward DeMarcus Cousins over UK freshman guard John Wall as SEC player of the year: "He's dominating. Somebody compared him to Shaq, and I don't know if that's fair to anybody, but he's the next closest thing. Physically one man can't play him, and that's a problem."

16/10/1/1/2 in 23 minutes per game as a freshman. 54% FG, 63% FT = Cousins

vs.

16/9/2/1.5/.5 in 32 minutes per game as a freshman. 54% FG, 57% FT = Karl Malone

If he can keep his head on straight he has all the tools to be the next dominate NBA big man.

I see him challenging Evan Turner for #2.

Cousins has been a big factor for Kentucky down the stretch. He's got a pretty good arsenal of post moves, but needs improvement on the defensive side of the ball. I think the Perkins/Randolph comparison is pretty accurate. One thing about Cousins, if he's mentally focused on basketball, he could be a big time post player for ten years or so in the NBA. He's just got to get it going mentally, and improve defensively.

The Cousins cheerleaders seem to have gone into hiding ever since his slump started a couple weeks ago. Where is that dude who guaranteed he would go #1?

He's still the best college Big in the country and you'll see in the tourny that ifs Cousins they will focus on not Wall. Cousins could still go 1 all depends on who picks theres no clear cuts this year theres 3-4 who could take that mantle.

Monroe is the best big in the country.

Wall is 99% likely to go #1.

There's so much hype around Wall that it would be really bad decision-making if a GM with #1 pick who somehow doesn't want Wall decides not to trade down. I would say "No way that happens!".

A) It is hilarious how you pop back up when Cousins finally plays well.

B) Evan Turner showed today why he is better than Cousins today.

C) Cousins is a beast and had a monster game.
