Lakers - new retired numbers?

Post#1 » by Point forward » Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:44 am

Which of these guys deserved a retire Lakers number?

2 - Derek Fisher
4 - Byron Scott
5 - Robert Horry
8 - Kobe Bryant
12 - Pat Riley
21 - Michael Cooper
24 - Kobe Bryant
31 - Kurt Rambis
34 - Shaquille O'Neal
45 - AC Green
[COACH] - Phil Jackson

Put into perspective, Gail Goodrich has a retired #25 jersey with 1 ring, 1 All-NBA First Team, and half of his career elsewhere (Suns, Jazz).

Locks: Kobe #24, Shaq, Riley once he's done, Phil (if he was related to a number).
Questionable: AC, Cooper.

Shaq, and Kobe #24, Riley and Phil but whats on the banner a whistle or the amount of wins or number of championships, Cooper maybe if he gets to the hall. People not on that list that should be considered Pau depending on championships and the hall and maybe Jamaal Wilkes if he gets in the hall in the next few years.

34, 8 and 24 will probably be retired... 16 probably if Pau sticks around through this contract and one more... Only other player that would probably even be in consideration is Cooper... Lakers dont really retire role players, no matter how many chips they won here

lakers don't do stupid gimmick ish so there's no way kobe's getting two numbers retired. so either 8 or 24 for kobe and 34 for shaq.

IF the Lakers were a avg team then all of them.
But i would just say Kobe and Shaq as players and then Riley and Phil.

I love AC Green he did a great job for us and he is one of my favorite players(Magic,Green, Kobe,Shaq, Rambis and Jabbar). He won 3 ring with us play good D and give us solid O. I want to say Yes but i have to say no.

If Gasol wins 1-2 more rings then he has a shoot. as a allstar player and a big part of the team.

Shows you how tough it is for players to make the Ring-of-Honor. Cooper perhaps has a shot.

The Lakers are so great because they don't retire many #s.
Rileys # wont be retired because he is a coach, thats the way it should be.

Kobe and Shaq obviously will be retired. No one else from the 80s teams.

Hopefuls, the only way they have a chance is to win more championships, Gasol, LO, Bynum

Gasol if we get 2+ championships and he stays here

LO if we get 3+ championships and he convinces everyone that he is a cross between Worthy and Magic and a team leader

Bynum is we win 3+ championships and he stays here for a long time OR if we somehow win 4+ championships and he leaves at some point.
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

Kobe and O'Neal are the only ones who will get retired on that list. I'm sure Phil and Riley will go up as coaches.

I don't even know if O'Neal will go up there, he most likely will though.

And I think they just put one jersey up there with the name "BRYANT" on it and have 24/8 retired. Or let it be Kobe's decision.

Shaq won't have a # retired

... it'll be a sentence... "Pay me my efffin money Buss"

Kobe's will probably be a splitscreen banner with 8/24

Unless you are in the HOF you don't go up. This is not the real good role player honor wall.
That's what separates the Lakers from the rest.

Kobe,Shaq of course however Derek Fisher was the starting point guard on all 4 title teams has made clutch after clutch shot for them. He deserves some credit for the all leadership he gives this team. Yes of course his jersey should be retired. Eventually Gasol will be because he is an all-star player on championship teams, and if Lakers win another title or two it would be a lock.

Also for Kobe would 8,24 both be retired when its all said an done and he has equally worn both numbers for the same amount of time in his career. It is not like MJ he always had 23 he is whole career basically,45 didn't last long.

Kobe for sure. As long as Buss owns the team I don't think Shaq gets his number retired unless he (Shaq) publicly apologizes for the things he said about Buss and the Lakers organization.

The Lakers will retire Shaq's number it would be pretty petty for Buss to hold against Shaq how his time with the Lakers ended over the 8 great seasons Shaq gave the Lakers. 34 will be up there.

Shaq's #34 WILL BE RETIRED FOR SURE! His best and most dominant years were with the Lakers, and I believe Buss has already indicated as much by not allowing Brian Cook to wear #34 a few years back.

Kobe's #24 There is no way in hell Kobe gets 2 numbers retired because if West/Magic/Baylor/Kareem/Wilt only have 1 number, Kobe will only have 1 number. So I'm going to guess it ends up being #24 because he won a title without Shaq wearing 24.

Gasol's #16 has a chance if Pau ends up being a Hall-of-Fame caliber player and key in several Laker championships. I personally think Pau will have his number up there once it's all said and done, as he will go down as an elite PF in NBA history.
