If Dallas completely imploded we would still probably wind up with the 14th pick, but hey, I'm fine with that. :)

I know I'm getting too far ahead of myself here, but in that scenario, what could Harris, pick #14 and $6-8 million in pure cap space fetch in terms of a July deal? :D

As far as Im concerned its either Wall, Turner or bust for us the other prospects in this draft class are all big man that really bore me, none of them have anything close to Loepz's talent (Favors hasnt shown me anything to make me believe that he can help us).

Man if we get the 1st or 2nd pick we'll be set baby.
If we get Wall we can trade Harris and finally get a good PF and have a fantastic team that's built around the greatest prospect since DWADE, an up and coming Center and some help from free agency.
If we get Turner we can keep Harris and have a fantastic young core of Harris-Turner-Lopez.

This team is going places Im telling ya.

demarcus cousins would look good in Jersey, assuming he could tame the attitude....he'd be a total down low beast next to lopez.

6"11 265+ bruise with touch, can rebound and block.

dudes a insane talent.

If the Dallas pick can slide in the lottery, I REALLY would love to pick up Greg Monroe up with that pick. If the Dallas pick doesn't slide to the lottery we can probably package that with our 2nd rounder for him.
His passing and PF skills next to Lopez would be the perfect compliment in the frontcourt.

6.4 Points
3.2 Rebounds
5.6 Assists
1.5 Steals
38% FG percentage
40% 3 point percentage
94% Free throw percentage

heres the link,
and feel free to take a look at his other monster stats from the past 3 years which are available to view on the left hand side of his goofy head shot.

I dont care about Jennings stats. Tyler Hanbourough had better stats in college then pretty much anyone in the country and hes not even a starter in the NBA. There are just certain players when you watch them play you know they have something special that doesnt show up on the stat sheet. That competitive edge and fire they play with.

It's interesting how some people's minds work... How could you use a player's stat against him then admit that you don't care about it? It puzzles me...

Rubio doesnt have that. He doesnt have anything. Hes quick but hes not explosive fast to take on NBA point guards, he cant jump which means unless hes wide open all of his layups are getting
swatted out of the city border

I guess this answers why... In this game, even if you're just a fan, it helps to learn a little bit of how to catch talent. It gives you excitement and you start following different players games, then you look forward to it. And then you will start to love and enjoy the game. (The same way im doing now with Turner... Man i feel like im stalking the guy already :))

Now, if you really have seen Rubio play, even just on TV or youtube, and you didnt liked his game, there's something wrong with you. His presence in the game, his style, his charisma is what made his fans and most scouts fall in love with him. And honestly, when i started following him, i never ever, not even once checked his stats, and same goes with Wall, except that one time where he dished like 17 assist (not sure) for limited minutes because it was a blow out game, i think.

Now, since you're talking about stats, ima give you some college stats by some of the possible future HOFs right now in the game comparable to Ricky's. Take note that these players are playing at the average of more than 30 mins. per game:

Steve Nash...

FG% - 43.0
3pt FG% - 40.1
FT% - 86.7
RPG - 3.1
APG - 4.5
SPG - 1.3
PPG - 14.9

Deron Williams...

FG% - 42.2
3pt FG% - 37.3
FT% - 68.5
RPG - 3.3
APG - 5.9
SPG - 1.1
PPG - 11.0

Chauncey Billups...

FG% - 41.3
3pt FG% - 40.1
FT% - 85.4
RPG - 4.8
APG - 4.9
SPG - 2.1
PPG - 19.1

While Rubio during 2009-10 (spain)...

GP - 21
MP - 20.0
FG% - 44.7
3pt FG% - 44.7
FT% - 96.6
RPG - 2.3
APG - 5.2
SPG - 2.5
PPG - 6.9

... Fewer games and fewer minutes doesnt give you much time to adjust to your game. Also, playing with less NBA player caliber type of talent, i would assume limits him from having better stats. Although these are prof. players, i still think that American college players are more advanced, plus with the surplus of teams and basketball fans in this country, there are more players to choose from and it gives you better quality of players, not to mention the training.

However, that doesnt mean that some european players would never excel here. As you know, we even have some of European players whose careers have gotten better after joining the NBA. In Rubio's case, many believes he's going to be one of those players.

Of course, afterall, might not even work out but whose to say that Wall will also have that kind of career Deron and Paul's having? Just like what i have been saying, sometimes it's not even about the player, it's about the team, as a whole, the chemistry. Billups needed to find the right team to have this kind of a career. I wont be asking Ricky to score a lot (which he's capable of), i just want him to lead this team and make plays if we somehow landed him and most importantly, if we landed a superstar thru free agency.

Also, Ricky plays with less TO's and he gets to the FT line and shoots at a high percentage, which means that there's room for improvement on his outside shooting. He runs the pick and roll like you wouldnt believe, so it'll be a big plus.

When he played better teams in Europe like Montepaschi Siena, the italian champion, and some of the "copas" games, he played more minutes, so he scored more and the rest of his stats were also better.

It's ok to disagree if you really feel that he's not going to be that type of player but at least give him some credit and not just trash him like the way you did at the other thread and then you coming over here calling me out like you have a better news and have enough explanation to convince me that you're right about him. He is no Udrih, who's actually becoming a player (what a good team chemistry can do huh?). Udrih didnt experienced the hype Ricky's having right now and there's a reason for that. Ricky is a lot more better player than Udrih was in Europe, not even close, so if Udrih is successful here in the NBA, i would assume Ricky can do much better. But it doesnt always turn out that way, just like what happened to Sergio. I think that is one of the reasons why Ricky stayed and only if he was given a chance to play for a team like NY or NJ (future NY), he would've probably tried to come here right away. You have to be in a right place at the right time.

Sorry if im rambling... It's late but i have to stay awake to finish some of my work... I just happen to drop by for a little break but ended up defending Ricky again... Deviljets, im not his agent, i wish i was... He should pay me though :)

Also, the lack of explosiveness and jumping ability, although i disagree, is not enough reason to assume the guy's going to fail here. We have players here in the NBA right now who are very athletic and can jump probably as high as the top of the back board and cannot play jack. And there's some that very explosive but doesnt know how to use it.

Ricky is 6'4 and he can dunk... I mean, how high do you have to jump for the ball not to get swatted? Aaron Brooks is smaller and look what he can do. Boykins, i dont even think he can touch the damn board but time and time again we are getting killed by this guy, just recently, the winning shot. It that how we evaluate talent? To be successful, you have to be explosive and can doodle jump?

Anyways, here is my top 5:

1. Turner
2. Wall
3. Cousins
4. Johnson maybe?
5. ?

Some fans think it's a weak draft, while many thinks it's loaded. But for me, i feel like the top 4 to 8 is weak and it gets stronger as the draft goes down and it'll stop right about slightly before the middle of the 2nd round.

If we can't get Wall, then I hope we can land the number 2 pick and get Turner. With the other first round pick I'd try to trade up (if we have to) and grab Jarvis Varnado.

We need a rebounder and low post defensive presence. We need an enforcer type of player down low like Ben Wallace, Dennis Rodman and Charles Oakley were in their prime. I don't like the interior toughness on this team right now.

I don't know how but we need to turn Greg Monroe into our second first round pick. Who do we trade in order to trade up?

Disregard some of these mock sites, Monroe is very likely to go top ten, probably somewhere between 5th and 8th overall.

Agreed and if he is a top 8 pick, the only way NJ has a chance of trading up that high is with Harris.

You are both right. To get a premiere big man in the draft, we need to be willing to trade Harris along with the Dallas pick. And imo, if it's my way, i'd rather build this team from the draft because our chances of getting a big time superstar are getting slimmer and slimmer as we get close to this seasons end.

I will build this team like the way the Spurs was built. Of course, somehow, we need to get lucky at the same time but i dont expect us to get lucky like them drafting Manu and Parker that low. I would go the safer route and draft the players projected to go high eventhough them being successful is not always the case.

Also, i will first try to sign a big time coach, just like the Spurs. We are like the Spurs, a small market team that's going to have a hard time luring a superstar FA. I know that we are in a bigger market but with Knicks around the area, we are still going to be considered "the other team". Now, moving to Brooklyn and having a wealthy owner sure can change our image but it's still remains to be seen.

Im so down right now with the way they're playing that i dont see any superstar signing with us anymore. I tried to put myself in their position and i'll probably wont sign with them as well. The chemistry of this team is so destroyed that even LeBron probably wont make any difference. This is not even a bad team to lose like this and they've shown they can play but they just cannot find the consistency to finish the whole game.

So yeah, i'll start building from the draft and try to swing some decent trades to get a combo of probably Wall/Cousins or Turner/Cousins or you guys probably have a better idea. I would also consider trading next year's first and i bet a lot of teams probably will crave just by hearing of getting the Nets 2011 first round pick.

But of course, im still hoping we could at least one decent FA this summer. Maybe, in a few years, our team will be much better by then, Brook's going to be a beast by that time and it's going to be much worth it to use Prokhorov's money in the future. I think this coming years is not the best time, we might end up forcing our moves and destroying our chances. Maybe, 2 years from now is the best time, just in time when the new arena is finished.

If you're going to lock everything else draft-related, jj, at least sticky this thread, please. I honestly don't see why you feel the need to lock threads, though. It's not as though traffic around here merits it.

Yeah I agree 100% we need to jump back into the lottery and land a PF with the Dallas pick our 2nd or maybe CDR. The guy I have my eye on is Ekpe Udoh from Baylor. Dude is a shot blocking machine and has a solid offensive game and a mid range game which would keep the paint open for Lopez.

We're looking to prevent double threads and unneccessary new threads...when the first one popped up, I let it slide...then the second one was ridiculous...
...at this point its doesnt need to be stickied, the draft is still side talk...to be honest, I had planned on making it a sticky come Tournament Week/March Madness...
no offense ecuchus, I think your a good guy, you bring a lot to the table...but like others, you have difficulty finding a relavent thread on PAGE 1 and utilizing that thread to initiate your discussion....in addition, rarely does anyone look to bump threads from page 2, 3, ect...members NEED to learn how to search and stop creating new threads that already have been made...

The draft thread I bumped was only 6 threads down from where yours was...all you have to do is look...

Im just curious. I think a better question would be... What if Ohio State made the Final Four, assuming Kentucky will make it as well. And along the way to the Final Four, Turner posted crazy numbers, like almost triple-double numbers every game (which is not impossible), and then Wall posted the same numbers he's been doing all year, or maybe performing less but more from his teammates, specifically Cousins...

Now, the question would be... Who is your top choice now? Would you still pick Wall number 1 assuming we're picking first? Would you consider Turner now as the top choice?

Im guessing most of you will still pick Wall and his potential. I can see that crazy potential in him but i'd rather have the potential of a taller guy playing different positions. Turner is more experienced and with that experience, you can say that he'd gotten better and actually surpassed the expectations on him. Meaning, there's a lot less chances that he will turn out to be a bust, and i think the question about him would be more like, if he can become a superstar or just an allstar.

Im not knocking on Wall but what im trying to say is... I'd rather have (as a comparison) a Melo than CP3. Just like what vincecarter4prez have said, historically, only a few great PG's have won championships, it has always been a great SG/SF/C. Just look at the Celtics, Lakers, Cavaliers contending and Denver. Then, check the Suns, Hornets and the Jazz, still far away from that level.

Return to Brooklyn Nets
