Spring Training 2010

The first workout for pitchers and catchers was supposedly today, position players don't have to report until Thursday (Vernon says thank god).

And so we begin what looks to be a tumultuous 8 months of cellar-dwelling baseball. But seriously, baseball season is back, and you know what that means. Not much really. Go Jays. Re-instate Mustard Tiger!

Finally!

Even though we aren't looking to be contenders (yet) I still feel this thrill inside!

Go Jays!

I am also excited for the jokes on this board.

I'm really looking forward to this year even if the wins aren't there...

This is going to be a young team and though W's will be hard to come by, I'm looking forward to seeing some growth, and seeing some enthusiasm, and seeing some old faces hopefully getting some of there form back. I just love the energy that comes with the younger guys. There's obviously no pressure on us which I hope can help to make it an exciting year.

Go Jays Go!!

Hill's face looks fatter. i guess the 4 months of spring training will get rid of that.

anyone else surprised that McGowan's seriously being talked about being in the starting rotation (and some rank him ahead of Rzep?)

4 months?

MLB starts in april dude.

and yeah, i mean McGowan is reportedly making progress, and Zep is still a very young prospect.

We were bit very harshly by the injury bug last year, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him by at least June or July.

I'll be in Orlando for the 2nd week of march and I'll be heading over to Dunedin on March 12 for the game against the 'Stros. Should be loads of fun.

I'm looking at Wells to make a HUGE comeback this season. A bit of the pressure is off, really no expectations for this team. I really hope I'm right.

haha zilby, you have to check the username before thinking that post thru. That's Yogi's humor and sarcasm..lol

I agree though with him, ST is so long, personally having a month's worth of exhibition is a little too much, by mid March I want the season to start and the Jays to make their final cuts. Hopefully Lance Broadway makes the team just for shats and giggles.

I have given up on Purcey...he'll hit 28 in late-April and has only one successful minor-league season to his name (2008). He's a likely candidate for a quiet mid-season release, like Adams last year.

Baseball!

And I would bet that Purcey is a good candidate for a "whenever Dustin McGowan comes of the DL" release, without a shocking spring.

Anybody else more excited for this season than the last couple? I've had a sulky "we're wasting Halladay" feeling about the team for a while. This season is just all youngins... no pressure... just go out and play

I should give up on him. But under the circumstances in which all you have to do is have a better spring than Scott Richmond, Dana Eveland, Brian Tallet, Robert Ray and Brad Mills, I hold out on a final thread of hope.

Million dollar arm with two cent control. What a waste.

Is Willy Taveras still a FA? I would sign him up for the leadoff role if he still is.

Also, how is Davis Romero doing?

Taveras signed with the Nats, if I'm not mistaken.

And as best as I know, Romero is still in our minor-league system, though he had a pretty awful '09 season: ERA around 6.00, WHIP in the 1.70s, no better on the road than in Cashman Playpen. He bounced from the rotation to the 'pen and back, and had success with neither. This is probably his make-or-break year as well.
