Doesn't this unofficially make 2010 Pickett's last year as a Packer? I doubt he re-signs a long-term deal with us after we take him off the market this season. I think Raji is FAR better at DE, so we are going to have to address NT either this year or next.

They could always franchise him again next season. This year the tag will be around $7 million. Next year the tag will be average of the top five salaries at the position plus 20%. We'd probably be looking at something between $9-10 million.

I doubt they tag him again, but if they're desperate I wouldn't rule it out.

On a side note, Casey Hampton just set the mark for what Pickett will shoot for.

Three years, $21 million with $11 guaranteed.

Hampton, however, was just a Pro Bowler and has made five total. I'd offer Pickett something a little under that deal and see if he bites.

We should go for like 3 years, $18 million, $8.5 guaranteed.

What kind of signing bonus did we give Pickett the first time?
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

3 years $18 is right around what I was hoping and anticipating they would try. Considering the 1 year franchise is roughly $7 million you are saving on a per year basis but Pickett gets the advantage of a 3 year deal and some up front guaranteed money. I think that is fair and what it takes to get him signed.

It was 4 years $14 million total, still digging trying to find the signing bonus portion, will hopefully edit this shortly.

Here we go found it:

$14 million contract with the Packers on March 15. It contained a signing bonus of $2 million, a roster bonus of $3 million this year, base salaries of $1.475 million in '06 and '07, $2.475 million in '08 and $2.975 million in '09, and workout bonuses of $25,000 each year.

That Hampton signing is good because I believe the Packers can still negotiate a long term deal (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

I believe you can always negotiate a new or longer contract with anyone you currently have under contract. Regardless I know for a fact they can give him a new deal at this point. I don't believe the NFL has any rules regarding when you can give a contract to a player though. Rodgers got his contract extension in the middle of the season.
