Manu Anyone?

Post#1 » by cutthecrap » Thu Feb 25, 2010 6:31 am

The word out of San Antonio is that Manu will not be back with the Spurs...

Should the Wolves have an interest?

IMO this is an interesting thought...

---> He will not require a max-type contract
---> He is definitely "old" for a team that is on the rise, but he is a difference maker
---> He provides a much needed scorer and plays good (not spectacular) defense

Many additional thoughts on Manu (including the fact that I've never been a supporter due to his injury challenges)...however he is potentially a good fit for the Wolves...

Thoughts?

Maybe if we ever need to get rid of batman. But he might have Anti-Ginobili Exploding Spray in that damned utility belt.

If he leaves San Antone he'll sign with a contender.

The wolves need some old players that have had success in the league, they are too young. Plus, nobody on the team has ever been on a winning team in the NBA (OK, Darko - but that's it, right?).

jk, but I wouldn't rule it out because it depends on what happens during the offseason.

What would make it really interesting is if we traded for Rudy Fernandez in addition to signing Ginobili because Fernandez would want to start and Ginobili would want to come off the bench. Each play about 24 minutes and you got yourself a solid rotation of Ginobili, Fernandez, Brewer, and the draft pick. I'm pretty much against trading for Fernandez just because he'd want to start and play a lot, but that won't be an issue with Ginobili because Ginobili doesn't want to start and doesn't log heavy minutes himself.

Than Rubio would have his play dates. I wonder if bringing in two Spanish speaking guys would make him hop over next season. I doubt it (I wouldn't rule it out), but getting the second pick might make him reconsider.

This is assuming we'd send a small asset (Ellington, Gomes or Sessions) and a 1st rounder to Portland for Fernandez, right? If the Wolves don't end up in the top two of the draft I agree with spfsf, very good fallback. The Wolves would have to overpay for Ginobli, but he has enough game left to make it a worthy gamble, IMO.

Sessions and #25

However, if Rubio won't come over in 2010/11 (which is most likely), than I'd say just wait one more year.

I say yes as long as we get him cheap. Sure he's older, but I think his game would be a welcomed addition to this squad.
