DALLAS -- One of the first things many people noticed about Caron Butler after his arrival to the Dallas Mavericks is that the guard likes to chew straws during games.
The NBA obviously took notice as well.

NBA executive vice president Stu Jackson phoned Butler on Tuesday and told him to leave his straws at home. Butler did not play against the Los Angeles Lakers due to a reaction to medication, so he was unavailable for comment.

But the Mavs confirmed that the league is serious about outlawing straw chewing.

Don't know whether this was mentioned, but thought it was thread worthy because it shows how shielded we are as a franchise. Butler has openly chewed his straws away for years and its only now getting out?!

Or how big of a grudge Stern has against the Mavs.

It's possible I didn't think of it that way. It just struck me as odd seeing it on the news.

He's been chewing on straws for years. Why now...since he plays for Dallas?

It was the last straw . . .

C-But don't need no straw; his juice is so tough you need a fork and knife to drink it.

What next, Stevenson banned from further tattooing?

That was the first thing I thought when I saw this as well, how little attention we must get paid by the people upstairs. It takes all of two weeks in Dallas for him to get in trouble for something he did for years with us.

Dame.

I think it's safe to say that Stern hates Caron cuz he banned the wrong crutch.

Tough Juice would've been back to all star status if David would've just outlawed the jab step, pump fake, jab step, pump fake one dribble take a contested J move. Instead, he went for the jugular with the straws.

Caron will be back on the Dew in no time.

Any time now we'll hear, "What happened to Deshawn Stevenson? Who ever heard of a shooting guard shooting .333 from the field and .500 from the line?"

Also look for observations about Haywood's game really developing since he came to Dallas, and maybe some comments about how Jamison is developing a more complete game once he no longer has to win games by himself.

Last night Charles Barkley was joking "welcoming" Caron Butler "back to the NBA". I think players do get a much higher profile playing for a winner vs. the recent Wizards teams.

Obvious slap at the 2nd-tiered Wizard organization. Now that Caron is playing for contender, the straw-chewing is suddenly an issue for Stern.

Maybe we should change the thread name to "The Rodney Dangerfield memorial 'I can't get no respect' thread."
