FIBA Experts Vs. Fans - Top 16 European Players In The World

Post#1 » by JVGs World » Wed Feb 24, 2010 2:20 am

I think this is interesting, to see how much of a difference and gap there is between FIBA's international panel of experts and the fans on this. Let's look at how the two groups voted for the 16 best European basketball players in the world, and talk about why there is such a difference in some cases.

Here is how FIBA's international panel of experts voted the world's 16 best European basketball players:

1. Pau Gasol - 433 votes
2. Dirk Nowitzki - 94 votes
3. Vassilis Spanoulis - 63 votes
4. Milos Teodosic - 60 votes
5. (tie) Erazem Lorbek - 48 votes
5. (tie) Rudy Fernandez - 48 votes
7. Juan Carlos Navarro - 46 votes
8. Tony Parker - 44 votes
9. Hedo Turkoglu - 31 votes
10. Nikola Pekovic - 24 votes
11. Ersan Ilyasova - 21 votes
12. Ioannis Bourousis - 12 votes
13. Novica Velickovic - 10 votes
14. Marcin Gortat 9 votes
15. Igor Rakocevic - 3 votes
16. Lior Eliyahu - 0 votes

Here is how the fans voted the world's 16 best European basketball players:

1. Pau Gasol - 9,815 votes
2. Marcin Gortat - 8,837 votes
3. Erazem Lorbek - 7,046 votes
4. Dirk Nowitzki - 5,370 votes
5. Novica Velickovic - 4,783 votes
6. Hidyet Turkoglu - 4,479 votes
7. Ersan Ilyasova - 4,325 votes
8. Milos Teodosic - 4,058 votes
9. Rudy Fernandez - 4,022 votes
10. Juan Carlos Navarro - 3,892 votes
11. Igor Rakocevic - 2,024 votes
12. Tony Parker - 2,011 votes
13. Nikola Pekovic - 1,936 votes
14. Vassilis Spanoulis - 1,903 votes
15. Ioannis Bouroussis - 1,417 votes
16. Lior Eliyahu - 1,032 votes

Gortat and Spanoulis rankings are quite interesting. The experts ranked Gortat at number 14, and the fans ranked him at number 2. The experts ranked Spanoulis at number 3, and the fans ranked him at number 14. Quite big disparities.

Yeah, Gortat and Spanoulis stood out the most. They both should be at the bottom of the list.

Fernandez is too high. I think Navarro, right now, is better than him on impact alone. Velickovic should be higher on the expert list.

According to FIBA it includes hall of fame coaches and players. So I believe those would qualify as basketball experts.

Lorbek over Nowitzki?

That's the equivalent of fans voting Iverson for ASG this year.
"I don't step aside, I step up." - Vic Mackey
"My name is my name" - Marlo Stanfield
"If you come at the king, you best not miss" - Omar Little

Where are Marc Gasol, Bargnani and Siskauskas? Rakocevic should be banned from these lists, his time passed... or Ataman made his time passed, whatever  .

It seems the experts and players were given a random list of players and asked to sort it...

Wow DIRK is 2nd according to "experts" over Pau even though DIRK does everything better than Pau with the exception of maybe help side defense. Lakers fans think Pau is much better on ball defender than he actually is.

And all I have to say about fan voting is Gortat over DIRK???? Really??? Really Poland? Youre just mad Deutschland blitzkrieged you in WWII!!

Obviously Germans have better things to do than spending all day on net voting and clicking on every single pointless side.

They must have forgotten about Gallinari, Bargnani and especially Okur, he's better than many on the list...
