Where will Peppers end up?

Post#1 » by ChronicKerr » Wed Feb 24, 2010 5:47 pm

With it looking like Peppers will not be headed back to Carolina, where do you envision him ending up this offseason? I'm sure he'll likely go where the money is. I've read NE is the favorites but a report came out on NFL.com saying that Chicago is going to make a move for him this offseason as well.

The Chicago Bears are gearing up for a major run at Julius Peppers, a league source said Tuesday.

Bottom line, where will he end up?

Chicago seems to be the leader in the clubhouse right now. I hear the Falcons may have some interest - at the right price.

Any reason other than you being a Saints fan lead you to believe this?

first of all, they have a ton of free agents. secondly, their pressure on the passer with the front 4 alone needs work. they can and do apply pressure, but its basically due to a blitz package. but apply pressure with an attacking front 4 alone would simply tilt them as favorites to win it all again next year. especially with their offensive weaponry.

third, i believe the blueprint for how teams will approach them next year is there, tampabay for example, but others will place in that gameplan continuously. and that is to POUND THE ROCK and keep brees to only a few offensive reps. the less reps, the better the chance to defeat the saints. therefore, an addition of a BIG TIME, BIG NAME defensive lineman will stop other teams from controlling the line of scrimmage and running all day on them.

Adding a stud pash rusher would certainly improve every team out there, not just the Saints. Wishful thinking and what you honestly believe is going to happen are two very different things. Ponying up big bucks for Reggie next season might deter ownership from handing out a mega-contract this offseason, no?

I'm not sure WHERE he'll end up. But I'm praying he ends up on the Eagles. They're apparently on his list.

He turned down 4yrs./$54M last summer and he isn't going to take less than $15M/yr this time around. To me that rules out all but the NFC East teams and maybe Chicago. I've heard New England isn't as interested as what some would have you believe, but you never really know with them.

I think he's going to wind up in Chicago but that's just a guess.

I've never understood why New England has been interested in him (if they are).

IF the pats are going to spend alot of money on him then a) why wouldnt you finally fricken re-sign your own players? b) IF you're going to spend alot of money in Free Agency why wouldnt you go for more of a sure thing, whos played at a high level consistently rather then a player that has to convert his position and hasnt given 100 percent every game? For example, Karlos Dansby makes more sense to me. They could probably sign him for slightly less and solidify their ILB positions for years (Mayo + Dansby would be silly) and with those two guys you could move them around and you could get pressure with them if they tried to design plays to. Or maybe get someone else available on that level... idk. But Peppers? nah.

No? Am i crazy?

by let him go you mean get the 1st round pick from the raiders next year, right? I'd do that deal 10/10 times.

and yet the patriots are spiraling further and further away from another superbowl appearance. the way they treat veterans and long proven playmakers, is one of the reasons why they are done. who wants to sign with that type of team? they sign long term rookie contracts on the cheap. after 6 years they give them the 'ol franchise tag. by that time they might be injured or dont want to pay the player his value.

the patriots had an excellent run they had no doubt, fantastic and i would call them the team of the decade. but those days are over, and wont be coming back. their reputation as cheap and how they pay players will keep players away from that franchise.

Peppers signing with the Bears will be just like when Moose signed with the Bears...

He'll be cut in 2 years and wind up back with the Panthers. LOL
