NEW YORK, Feb. 26, 2010 – Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum has been fined $25,000 for publicly criticizing game officials, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations.

Bynum was fined for his comments made following the Lakers 101-96 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, Feb. 24.

drew had some terrible calls go his way, but man, does he like to complain. hopefully this will get him to focus a bit more. from all his comments and actions on the court, it seems like he's not developing his mental maturity at an acceptable rate.

From what I saw, looked like Drew had some legitimate gripes. I know I jumped out of my seat at least 3 times thinking he was fouled in the post. With that being said, he still needs to grow up and not allow bad officiating to get him off his game - just hustle back on defense and make an impact on that end of the floor when calls don't go your way.

the fine is perfectly justified...what he said was pretty bad. I mean, players have said worse about refs, but Drew was quoting what refs actually told him during the game and basically insinuated that the missed calls were borderline intentional.

Lakers big man Andrew Bynum told CBS in Los Angeles that the Mavericks benefited from some referee calls in Wednesday night's victory.
"it's hard to play 8 on 5," Bynum said, alluding to the three refs being on the Mavs' side.
The Lakers and Dallas were each called for 20 personal fouls however the Mavericks shot 26 free-throws to the Lakers 16.
Bynum was called twice for traveling.
Said Bynum: "When I asked one of the officials, how did you call a travel? He said, "I didn't see a travel." "The guy who called it looked me in my eyes and said "I didn't see a travel."
Then in reference to a foul that he thought should have been called on Dirk Nowitzki Bynum says the referee told him, "I didn't think it was going to mess your shot up.

If I got called for a travel and a ref said he never saw a travel i'd be pretty pissed to. Maybe Bynum is just exagerating.

It sure looked like there was a lot of body contact and slapping going on around drew when he got the ball...

I don't know if it was intentional or not but I see it happen in every game I watch no matter what team is playing... It definately seems like on any given night the refs have some agenda with some player. Whether it's calling fouls every time anyone even comes close to a player or whether it's swallowing their whistles around someone.

To me ref inconsistancy and the perceived agenda they seem to have sometimes, is the single biggest reason I don't watch as much NBA basketball as I used to. It's also why I most likely will never buy tickets for a game again. How many of you have paid good money to go see a game and have it seem like it was your teams night to get the shaft?

The solution is simple... Call the fouls the exact same way for everyone every single time.

That means no favorites with the Veteran Players, no free pass for Lebron when he's going against the Sasha's of the league, and no 'this just ain't your night kid.'

Again, I don't know if it really was a ref agenda against Bynum. It's just that there's been way too many issues with how games have been called over the last 10 or so years. It needs to change.

And to me, the refs shouldn't be talking to the players at all during the game... Make the right call and stand by it. The players should know by now what the call was and why.

For one you don't really need to be here telling us what our players think, to say he was exaggerating is asinine. Secondly he wasn't lying............any real fan and knowledgeable fan would've known it was 8 on 5. So tell me.............what was Drew exaggerating ?

25,000. For the regular joe. That is a real big fine. For Drew or any NBA player. That is like leaving a 5 dollar tip on a 20 dollar meal. He makes that much in interest every hour I bet.

I don't get why you found his post so offensive. All he did was post what Bynum said (which another poster previously asked for). We are all entitled to our own opinion, and really what he said wasn't bad at all - with him agreeing that he'd be pissed if that happened to him. So he said he might be exaggerating, but who cares, because Bynum probably was. Do you really feel a ref that called traveling on a player would really say that he didn't see a travel to the player? I highly doubt it. There were some bad calls, but I am guessing Bynum was indeed exaggerating in some aspects in his quote, most notably the ref saying he didn't see a traveling.

Deep and Worthy...WTF? Are you asinine? The guy just basically said: hey if this is true then I'd be pissed. But since we can't prove it's true, he simply qualified it with, maybe that's not a direct quote of the ref (hence "exaggerating").

Let's be a little more civil, man. So we lost to the Mavs...his post wasn't gloating in any way.

I loved phil's comment about it. He said that bynum should wait for the play-offs to criticize the refs, that way it will get picked up by the media and have an impact

Better to fine and get the players mind back on the game and keep him in control. I hope these little fines keep fights down to almost nothing. 25 K is better than 2 to 5 games for fighting and 350K for missing a few games.

Its good Bynum cares about winning. If he takes this stuff personally and can stay healthy we have a chance at another chip. This year will be tougher than last.
