Re: 09-10 WizFans Official Draft Thread
Chad Ford has Anderson @ the 17th slot on his big board, for what it's worth.
Severn, I think the sort of package you mentioned might well be possible with 'Bring Out Your Dead' trades.
What do folks think of Avery Bradley? I haven't seen Texas and he's obviously a tweener, but the Youtube vids show some ridiculous quickness and explosion. Sounds to be unselfish from the draft express profile too, which counts for a lot. 'Doesn't get to the line' looks like a problem.
I am a longstanding proponent of a big front court and a quick backcourt. If we're going to run next year, and I think that's a safe bet, I think the number of points we give up in the half court due to a small backcourt is minor compared to the number of points we take back on the break.
If it were up to me, and it's probably best that it's not, I could see getting a real jet of a rotation point guard (Collison or Lowry) and just go all in on-tempo.

Good news again with the Pacers beating the Bulls. The Pistons and Warriors I think play tonight, so we'll see one of those 2 pick up another loss. Hopefully the Nets win today gives them a little confidence going into our game. I'll be doing backflips if we can get a loss there.

Regarding his attitude: to me, the most important thing is his coachability. I can live with the elbow incident. I can live with the occassionally poor body language. I can live with the whining in the press conference about how Calipari is constantly riding him. What I want to know is whether or not he actually listens to his coach during games and practices.
He certainly seems coachable given the advanced development of his basketball skills. I am very impressed with his post passing and his defensive positioning. The kid knows what he is doing out there.
To project him as an NBA player, I'd say he'll be Tim Duncan crossed with Zach Randolph. Total package offensively. Supreme scorer from post and midrange. Banger also with sophisticated passing game. Cousins is farther along than Duncan was at the very same age. Not as athletic, but stronger and more highly skilled.
Honestly, if Cousins doesn't go #1, I think teams will regret not picking him.

Anderson is legit! No way he's lasting until the end of the 1st round, he's a top 20 pick in my book.
My only real knock on Anderson is he's only adequate off the dribble. But he's got nice stroke, can catch & shoot, come off screens and he's very decisive when he gets the rock. There's no stagnating the offense or pounding the rock into the ground with him. He'll fit in nicely with a lot of NBA teams.
I'll be honest. I'm not impressed with Aldrich. Awkward, not incredibly skilled or athletic. Bleh... I know he'll play in the NBA, but seeing him as a quality starting C is a bit of a stretch to me right now.
Anderson and Kenneth Faried are the two most underrated players in this draft IMO.

I was impressed with Anderson today. In fact, I've seen more from him than I've seen from Wesley Johnson. If the Wiz end up around 10th or so in the draft I'd select Anderson over Johnson.

Another guy who if he comes out is lottery-bound and underrated: Hassan Whiteside, had 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 blocks today.
Others I really like in this draft: Aubrey Coleman, Dominique Jones, and Elijah Millsap.

Yep, I compared his stats to McGee at the same age (McGee's soph season vs. Whiteside as a frosh) a few weeks back. Whiteside clearly looked like a better prospect and had superior numbers across the board (especially rebounds & blocks). His shot blocking skill is incredible, his blocks per 40 are off the charts.
If Whiteside puts his name in the draft, he'll definitely go top 10. Maybe even top 5.

Anderson has looked alot better than Johnson recently. I know Johnson is pretty dinged up but he hasn't been very impressive lately. Stylistically, Johnson has such a pretty jumper and can really sky but Anderson may be more effective & efficient right now.
I would say Johnson has the higher upside but then you realize he's 2 years older than Anderson!
Maybe its time to re-evaluate where Johnson & Anderson should be ranked in the draft?

I disagree slightly. I believe the two most underrated players are Anderson and Parakhouski.

I also realize that we all love Evan Turner and everything but does he fit Flip's offense. It seems like Flip wants perimeter shooting out of his shooting guards and Turner won't get to take advantage of his playmaking skills.

I like Parakhouski also. He'd be a very good selection with the Wizards' second 1st-round pick, unless they draft Cousins or Aldrich first.
Dat, I agree with you on Aldrich, but I can still see EG/Flip drafting him for his perceived defensive abilities.

Not a big problem per se if Gil returns as the SG/PG.
Turner helps in so many ways I think he's can't miss virtually anywhere he goes.

At this point I think they are just ranking prospects. I don't think they really match the players up with teams until a couple weeks before the draft.

Whiteside had already broken his conference single season blocks record the game before - not bad for a freshman. He's averaging 8.4 per 40 minutes - yes, that's 8.4 blocks per 40. Plus he's rebounding well. And he appears to have a nice shooting touch. I have him as the 6th pick in the draft, and the only question is - Is that too low? With Anderson out of our reach, there's a small chance that my favorite - Elliot Williams slides to Cleve's pick. Physically, he's got similarities with the #1 pick - Mr. Wall, and he was very smart to leave Duke.

I think the clear cut top 3 are all acknowledged to be:
1) Wall
2) Turner
3) Cousins
After that:
4) Favors
Than a drop off to:
5) Wes Johnson
6) Aldrich
7) Aminu
8) Ed Davis
Then another drop off to:
9) Patterson
10) Whiteside
11) Monroe
1) Wall
2) Turner
3) Cousins

4) Favors

Re: 09-10 WizFans Official Draft Thread
I still like Aldrich as a pairing next to Blatche and a compliment to McGee. The guy is big, has length, rebounds and defends well. If we don't get the #1 or #2, I would like him, Favors, or Monroe. This is a deep draft so that is good news.

Re: 09-10 WizFans Official Draft Thread
Assuming we don't get one of the top few picks, I'd be very please with a draft of Whiteside, Elliot Williams, and Kyle Singler - because that would mean Singler's leaving Duke.
People think Whiteside is a duplication because we have McGee, but I don't agree. Whiteside is the much better defensive prospect, while McGee is more of an offensive player, so they can complement each other. Actually Singler could be a valuable bench player - because of his versatility, 3 point shooting, and overall skills. Whiteside and Williams add a lot of athleticism and defense.
