Finley

Post#1 » by Itmotep » Mon Mar 1, 2010 7:32 pm

The Spurs let Finley go, i'm very surprised. Could the Suns use Finley? I think we could. He is a great player when healthy, a good slasher/jump shooter. Reminds me of Grant Hill. He played with Nash in Dallas and did great there with him. Just a though, dunno. I always liked Fin and have a black "retro" jersey of his :)

I'd love Finley here. I know he's old as heck but I want him back. I remember when he was a FA, Suns.com had this thing where you could send emails to him. They printed them out and gave them to him to try to recruit him. I must have sent like 10 emails all by myself haha.

Sarver probably doesn't want to spend an extra 2M, would cost him vets minimum plus the luxury tax and we can't really blame him, it's not like this team is competing for a championship. When this team gets into the playoffs they would basically be the same team with or without Finley.

If Barbs comes back OK then there'll be no playtime available for another swingman, but I wouldn't mind pickin up Finley or Devin Brown for the minimum if LB's scheduled health status come playoff time is still iffy.

The Suns could only use Finley to help us become the oldest team in the NBA. This season is the worst season of his career statistically. He almost has more DNPs then he has FGs Made this season.

Blame Greg Pockfaceavich for that. Finley still has it. He would be a good fit when LB comes back and wont get it started...Cause mark my words, LB will come back and NOT be the player he was. He fights with himself to much mentally to just come back from an injury like that.

Finley as a guy who camps out in the corner for the second unit and drains treys would be worth the vet. min. in my opinion. Plus, it would only be a pro-rated portion of the vet. min. for what? the 25 games that are left in the season? Half of that the league pays....

So what is the vet. min? Like $780k? Pro-rated to 25 games = $237,804... and the league covers roughly half that, so call it $140k in salary plus $240k in tax = $380k total.

And it's PHX's medical staff we're talking about.

Just seems like a pointless move to try and add Finley.

I will say I'm shocked they waived him. Finley, Oberto, and Bowen gone. More signs that the Parker/Duncan/Ginobilli era is almost over.

I don't like that he spurned us for the Spurs. Goodbye, Michael.

Finley, meh. What gap does he really fill here? Hill? JRich? Barbs? Duds? EC? No thanks.

Plus, the Spurs keeping him on the shelf and releasing him has to be for a reason. They always play old guys, look at some of the players who have retired at 40 there and hell, look at their roster now. That concerns me.

I'd rather have Finley in at Forward for a playoff run than EC, I dunno -- could be an option worth exploring. However, reports are that he's going to Boston. Sucks.

No. Okay maybe. Just maybe. But he has to give out Spurs secret play book and what not. And then when we face the Spurs in the playoffs he has to hipcheck Parker and intentionally put his foot under Duncan's foot after Duncan takes a shot.
