OT: USA Hockey

Post#1 » by Neon Black » Mon Mar 1, 2010 1:40 am

Just wanted to make a thread in honor of a solid effort from our guys on team USA and see what everyone thinks. I followed the team up 'till the finals and got into the game today as much as any Jazz game. The goal to put the game into OT had me screaming my face off, and I had to turn off the TV when Canada scored the game winner.

Makes me wish Utah had an NHL team.

thoughts?

Was pretty disappointed with the way the game ended, not much of a hockey fan though. My feeling is that I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out. But that's just me, as far as the rest of the state goes I would be curious to see what kind of support an NHL team would get in Utah.

Canada had us on our heels the whole game. I give team USA a ton of credit for tying the game and all, but the score doesn't reflect how the game really went. Canada were far more aggressive, and USA seemed lucky to even get the puck past the blue line and rarely got more than one shot when we did. Our power plays were HORRENDOUS, we had two of them and only got like 3 shots on goal from them. That is terrible, and their PP defense was relentless. If it weren't for Miller being a brick wall in goal, they would have scored 5, he was phenomenal.

Having said all that, USA still had some chances to win it on OT and they will be thinking about that for 4 years. I wish they could have screwed those canucks like they did us in 2002, but it was entertaining nonetheless. 14 golds is impressive for a country with 1/10th the population of ours.

Word is, South Beach is ecstatic that they
won't be seeing Millsaps talents again this season...

Yeah Hammer I agree that Canada was just way more aggressive. They slaughtered us in OT; about 2 minutes into sudden death I had a sinking feeling in my stomach watching the effing Canadian's just pound our goal. It seems like the US would periodically lose all of their confidence and just get worked. And yeah, those power plays were ridiculous.

I'm a Canadian living in Vancouver.

I will say this: you guys played a great game and had a great tournament. I'm sure that doesn't take the sting out of the ending, but the team has every right to be proud. Plus, your team is very young and everyone is going to be taking them VERY seriously in 2014.

I will also say this: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! ;) ;) ;)

(Seriously, though, that game meant a lot more to us. If we'd lost, half of Canada would have been jumping off buildings. And the other half would have been crushed to death by the first half.)

Considering how lopsided that Canadian team was stacked, they should have ran the tourney like the original Dream Team. Team USA and that Goalie Miller played some good "puck". I loved it how the hometown Kessler played good and hit that empty net the first game.
