Re: 2010 Draft prospects
It's not that I think we need LBs, I just happen to really like THIS LB and if talks about trying to trade Peterson are true and we don't re-sign Foote, as is expected, we're going to need to add a couple LBs this season.
Without JP/Foote our linebackers are what?
OLB- Jordon Dizon?/Zack Follett?
MLB- DeAndre Levy
OLB- Ernie Sims/Ashlee Palmer?
We have arguably only two good linebackers, and very shallow depth.

If we trade Peterson, we gotta see what we get outta him first.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
We've seen what Dizon has, not much. Follett played well for us on special teams last year in limited time. I'd like to see him more on defense, but we still need help there... it's just not a major concern right now.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
FYI, interesting combine results in today:
CB Haden - ran a 4.57 40?
S Berry - ran a 4.40!
Drumroll for a player that just thrust himself back into top-10 consideration........Taylor Mays just ran a 4.24 40!! Remember, he's 6'3", 230. He also did 24 reps and had a 41" vertical.
CB Brandon Ghee (Wake Forest) is 5'11", 192 and ran a 4.37 and did 15 reps...
CB Devin McCourty (Rutgers) is 5'10", 193 and ran a 4.34 and did 16 reps....

This should be no shocker. Everyone knew TMays was a freak of nature. The problem is that he has no football IQ.
Someone is still going to overdraft him though based on his physical skills. *paging Al Davis*

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
What's the deal with footballsfutre.com?
Looking at the LB's results again, and now they're all different (Chaney, Weathspoon, Watson).
It now says Weatherspoon's 40 time was 4.68???
Did they change all this for a reason? Were the times posted there yesterday inaccurate?

Im going to venture a guess that the first times they post are unofficial and they later update with the official times

Someone should draft him and turn him into an OLB ala Karlos Dansby/Cato June - who were also college S's.

Just to reference, Donovan Warren ran a 4.59 (similar size/speed to Haden).

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
They are now saying Mays ran a 4.43. Somethings way off. That's a huge difference from BOTH his times. Devin McCourtys time is way off too. Even the talking heads are starting to question the legitimacy of these "official" times.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
Why haven't the 40 times from the QBs, RBs, WRs, DTs, etc...been an issue? Now, all of a sudden, with the LB's, CBs and S's it is?

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
I dunno. It's not even a slight difference... there is a big difference in times. And it's not even one or two players, it seems to be across the board.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
They had a lot of trouble Sun. morning with the timers and those times changed quite a bit from official to unofficial. Pretty much all the initial times got bumped up by at least .03 if not more. It has something to do with the starting position. When they come out of that track stance with the 3pt. stance and the arm raised up it triggers the auto timer later for some reason and they add time on to compensate. The guys who start up taller aren't getting as much time added, or even some get time taken off.
There's probably 20 guys with stopwatches standing there watching and they all get slightly different times.
Tangent on McCluster: He did not time real well in the 40 but he has the best short shuttle time of anyone through yesterday. That is the best measure of explosive quickness and burst. He was .18 sec faster than Spiller. The only guys I can recall who had better times in that are Sproles and Chris Johnson and I think Tye Hill IIRC. FWIW that's the drill where Kevin Jones really excelled, and before he got hurt we saw how that translated--very quick and fast through the hole but not a great long-field runner.

It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
Damn that Wilson CB from Boise put up 25 reps...absurd for a CB. Hes supposed to be pretty fast too
If he is there in the 2nd, i give him a long hard look

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
Yeah, I like Kyle Wilson. Jim Schwartz reportedly loved him at the Senior Bowl. If he's around at #34, I could definitely see the Lions taking him. He's really good.
It's hard because alot of these guys are first round talent most years, but this draft is soo deep that it's hard to project who will still be around, who will fall, you will jump, etc.

Re: 2010 Draft prospects
Heres a little thing about Mays time and the clocking of such, according to NFL.com
http://blogs.nfl.com/category/combine/
The official times are usually slower than the unofficial times recorded by NFL Network, which uses a person with a hand-held timer situated right at the finish line. The official times are recorded electronically and take a while to process and get released. The electronic timing is more exact than the human hand-held timing, so the times produced electronically are the official ones. It’s not certain why there was such a large discrepancy in Mays’ two times.
