An established 20/10/1.5 guy at 25 years of age that's not overpaid for, err, a crappy contract that expires and a late lotto pick? I don't think that's even close to reasonable.

If it wasn't for his health issues, the fact that this draft has several interesting players to offer at #8 and Prince who isn't just a crappy contract but also a player with championship experience who could help our team develop I would without a doubt agree.
I think Jefferson will be send away the day Kahn gets offered a mid lottery (5-9) pick for him.

If Prince were a free agent next year, he would get about 70% of his salary on a one year deal.
If Al Jefferson were a free agent next year, he might get a pay raise.
Market value is always the best way to determine if a salary is crappy or not. And Jefferson's teammates have been so bad for so long that it's hard to tell what the problem is anymore. But it sure as heck isn't post offense and rebounding, and that's what costs the most money at his position.
Sorry, this is a no brainer no. Even if you hate Al Jefferson, you could get better value than this for him any day.

Re: POLL: Al Jefferson or Prince + #8-10
IMO the way Jefferson has played this season he should be lucky if he got the same contract. Teams don't want to risk spending that much money on players who came back from complicated injuries.
I wouldn't offer him more than 10 mil. now.
Sure If he comes back in old form he'll be worth much more than that and that's why I said I wanted to wait at least until the season is over before I decided whether I'd do that deal or not...

Re: POLL: Al Jefferson or Prince + #8-10
Though I am not opposed to trading Jefferson, I don't like selling low on anything. This is selling low on Jefferson and doesn't seem to be the pattern we have seen with Kahn overall. I believe after another off season and through part of next season as Al continues to show how he has recovered and improvement to his game (as I believe he will at least to his pre-injury form), he will yield better value and will be traded by the next trade deadline or even possibly the next off-season.
I just don't like the value for Jefferson we would currently get, though I do think he will and needs to be traded in the not so distant future for team balance and to run the type of offense being set by the coaching staff
EDIT: So i voted against, not strongly against, just against since I could live with it if it happened. Just not the value I would hope for long term.

That's the thing, though, if he doesn't get back to 100% and is playing like this up to next year's trade deadline, he goes from being positive enough value to maybe get expirings and a top 10 pick to being negative value due to his contract.
Very true. I don't want us to get stuck with Elton Brand pt 2. So do we pull the trigger on a deal like this then? If there's a guy like Aldrich or Whiteside available on draft day we should probably make the draft day trade. Do the Pistons do this?
- I would prefer the pick to be unprotected, would that make the deal more fair in value or would that be a deal breaker?

Well, if it's draft day, then we know where the pick is already. Unless you're saying you'd rather get a future pick.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

I'll make a disclaimer. If the guy we want is there at the #8 pick (Whiteside, for instance) then this is different. Some people think Whiteside will be a star center in the NBA, and then you're trading for that player rather than the pick. So the abstract "and a pick" is no, but the specific "This player + Prince" is a different story. I might jump on for Ed Davis he drops there, but that's because I think Ed Davis is a top talent in this draft.

Yea or maybe unprotected before the draft? As long as we get top 8 pick

This is my trade from a few weeks ago. Then, some DET fans said they would do it if the pick wasn't top 6, so 7-10. Regardless, a pick in the 8-10 range is guaranteed to net you one of these players (assuming all go pro and Wall and Turner are 1, 2) --
Aminu
Cousins
Aldrich
Favors
Davis
Monroe
Whiteside
Johnson
Henry
I think I would so it. I don't like the idea of selling low on Jefferson, but I also worry that his value can go down even further --- doesn't improve/recover old form, new CBA, injury, another DUI/character concern

I would also trade the Utah pick if we drafted Turner and Johnson was still available with their pick. I tried hard, but I could not find a trading partner to trade Prince to (Milwaukee fell just short).

keep Prince, use the Utah pick as a sweetner to move Al Franken elsewhere.

Re: POLL: Al Jefferson or Prince + #8-10
I went neutral as part of it is who's available at the Detrot pick and who we would be getting with our pick. If it was something that led to Prince and a pick to Philly for Iggy or to Memphis in a Gay S&T, than probably more in favor. Less in favor if it looks like Al will be back to old form as it's selling low.

Re: POLL: Al Jefferson or Prince + #8-10
I know this is all we can get on Realgm in a Big Al offer, but I wouldn't be surprised if Kahn were able to fleece a little more out of Detroit. They NEED a low post presence and with them being at the cap they're not going to find much out there via trade. I would try to get another future first out of the deal, maybe top 10 protected. I know Al's value is low, but he has a lot of selling points -- Age, Reasonable contract, past performance
My favorite: How many current NBA players have ever put up a season in which they played at least 50 games, and averaged 23 and 11?
(I've posted this point before, but now I can't remember the exact names. Off the top of my head the list looks like this)
Shaq, Duncan, Garnett, Bosh, Jefferson.
That's it.

Re: POLL: Al Jefferson or Prince + #8-10
Great news. New York pwned Detroit. Detroit now have the 6th worst record and Utah's pick just got a bit worse. Utah and Philly are the only teams I could see wanting Johnson. I hope we can make a trade especially if we get Turner.
Current standings (in order from worst to best of the worst)
NJ - Min - GSW - Ind - Sac - Det - Uta - Phi
Has this been posted on the trade board yet? Of course now it's the #6 pick, so they might want one of our picks back.
