Clippers 2010 Draft Thread - Aminu, Bledsoe & Warren

Post#1 » by PerkinsFor3 » Sun Feb 28, 2010 3:03 pm

With the Clippers out of the playoffs hunt, it might be time to focus on the summer. Griffin will be back in May (100%), we'll be able to sign a nice player with the capspace we have and we have nice depth at most positions.

Currently we are in position to draft around the 10th pick. Of course we could end up higher or a tad lower, but let's be realistic and keep it at #10 for now. We also have the Wolves pick, which is protected top 10 through 2011. We can assume the Wolves will suck enough to make it a 2012 pick, which would be a nice top 10 pick I assume, so we can ignore this one for now.

Here are a few options we should take a look at:

Ed Davis
Greg Monroe
Patrick Patterson
Xavier Henry
James Anderson
Cole Aldrich
Gani Lawal
Larry Sanders

Ed Davis might drop due to the injury and NC's losses. He does play the same position as Griffin/Kaman though. Greg Monroe: same problem and I've got a feeling he'll go top 6. IF Monroe is still on the board however, I would love to pick him and play Griffin at SF when needed. Monroe's passing and courtview would make a Griffin/Monroe/Kaman frontcourt absolutely deadly.

Patterson is a career back up and I dont see him fitting in with us. Cole Aldrich is a less talented version of Kaman and would only be interesting if we'd deal Kaman for some reason.

Lawal is a nice power forward, but once again: he's not the guy we should be looking for. Sanders: Ditto.

Xavier Henry is a very nice player: NBA ready body, can shoot very well but has trouble setting up his own offense. This would not look as bad with players like Gordon and Davis in the same line up though. Henry would help create more space for Griffin and Kaman to work inside. I also like Anderson, but he's a lot like Gordon.

My pick? Henry.

Thoughts?

Wolves' pick is definitely gonna be somewhere in the top 7.
We could still beat the odds and get a top 3 pick. Like Seattle did before landing Durant. If not, I say we should look into trading that pick in a package deal to bring proven talent to the team.

We can either trade or draft a wing player. Those are my thoughts
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

I think we either draft a PG as a backup for Baron or a SF.

PG. Sherron Collins
or
SF. Wesley Johnson

We'd be so lucky to get Johnson. He'll be gone before the 6th pick comes along.

The Clippers need to put Aminu on their radar, if they're going to draft a SF. I'd be very happy coming out of this draft with Johnson or Aminu since they both fill a need at the SF spot. Obviously, this would change if LeBron gave us a verbal agreement to sign with us this summer before we make our pick on draft day.

aminu would give us a player like deng, josh howard, thornton, maggette. someone without good 3pt range. johnson would fit soooooooooooooooooooo much better.

Willie Warren really should have came out last year. DX has him ranked #20. I would like to see him paired back up with Blake, backing up Gordon but maybe he's not that guy.

Lance Stephenson is a baller from Cinncinati, this kid can play and has all star potential.

^Yeah dude had a lot of hype coming out of HS. I believe he came out of the same HS as Bassy out in NY.

Well as of now I want Wes Johnson, Xavier Henry, or Al Aminu. In that order.

You wouldn't waste a 2nd rounder on Lance Stephenson??? Common fool that's just being stupid. This kid is only a freshman right now. I know were probably gonna have a top 15 pick and were probably not gonna draft him in the 1st round, but he will be a good player in the NBA (how good i don't know?). Another year will be nice for him anyways, but don't count him out this year just yet. He might test the waters and that could be a blessing for him because he just has so much potential its insane.

But for our pick in the draft I want Wesley Johnson (Syracuse), but he will be gone by the time we draft.
So if he is gone then Xavier Henry (Kansas) or Damion James (Texas) or James Anderson (Oklahoma State).

I would be happy with any of those guys for our team next year.

Also show me any indications you've seen during his college career which makes you say he WILL be a good nba player? From the way you write I'm thinking you're easily impressed by "Born ready" videos.

Ive never even seen the born ready videos. i just watch the college games he is in. There are times where he is not the best player because he is a freshman, but he does have amazing potential. He is a 6'6" shooting guard who is over 200 lbs. He is a great scorer and a really gifted player who knows the game. His freshman season is almost as good as russell westbrooks sophmore season and westbrook seems like he is turning into an all star.

Lance Stephenson (Freshman)- 28 min, 11.6 pts., 5.3 reb., 2.4 ast., 2.4 t/o, 1 st., .442% FG

Russell Westbrook (Sophmore season)- 34 min, 12.7 pts., 3.9 reb., 4.3 ast., 2.5 t/o, 1.6 st., .465% fg

All he needs is one more season in college and he will be a lottery pick next year for sure.

Are you comparing Lance to WB? Why exactly? An overhyped swingman to a guard who had to learn to position and who had no hype at all and thus had to fight for a chance to shine?

Seriously now?

Westbrook never had to fight to get playing time. Im a UCLA fan, westbrook wasnt fighting against anyone else for his spot. In his sophmore season he was the starting shooting guard just like lance. Lance can play point or shooting guard or small foward. And yes im comparing them because they both play the same position in college and there stats are similar.
