Trade Deadline Thread

Post#1 » by Nolan » Tue Mar 2, 2010 6:22 pm

The trade deadline is March 3 and i'm expecting a lot of movement. We've already had a couple pre deadline moves with the Oilers sending Grebeshkov to the Preds for a 2nd round pick and the Panthers sending Jordan Leopold to the Penguins for a 2nd round pick as well.

Rumour is that the Flyers are trying to make a deal for Dan Hamhuis but the Preds want Ryan Parent in return.

I'll try and keep this thread updated with all the latest moves.

The Ottawa Senators have acquired defenceman Andy Sutton from the New York Islanders for a second-round draft pick.

In 54 games this season, Sutton has recorded four goals and eight assists with 73 penalty minutes.

Defencemen for 2nd rounders seems to be a trend today.

I'll be on. NHL Trade deadline is the best deadline in all of sports.

Although...this deadline doesn't look all that exciting.

I don't think many big names will be moved. You know it's going to be a slow deadline when Ray Whitney is the biggest fish up for grabs.

My personal opinion: besides any shocker trades where a big name really does get moved, I think the team that lands Nathan Horton will be the winner of the deadline. Kid is a stud and so underrated and I think he would bloom on another team. I pray the Habs make a move for him.

Horton won't get traded.

Ray Whitney probably won't get traded either. Carolina wants too much and he will only go to a few teams and they won't pay the price Carolina wants.

I wouldn't be surprised to see little movement. All but 5 teams are in the race.

A pretty bad showing by the Hawks' goalie tandem in New York right now.

Mr. Bowman? I have Randy Sexton's number if you'd like to give him a ring.

I would love to see Chicago get Vokoun. If the Pens don't win the cup, I'd like to see Chicago do it. Plus, that would mean Washington would still have crappy goaltending.

Per McKenzie twitter..

http://twitter.com/TSNBobMcKenzie

Sources tell TSN deal in place for Ponikarovsky to Pittsburgh for prospect Luca Caputi but Pitt has to move contract for cap reasons first.

I like this trade. Good winger for Eugene.

EDIT
Done deal pending conference call.
Skoula and Caputi for Ponikarovsky

Burke got bum sexed hard on that one. First you want picks, then you want Tangradi, then you end up with that? Yikes.

^The difference between Tangradi and Caputi isn't large in terms of their development as prospects. I saw Caputi during his Mississauga Ice Dog days, in his final year he was a pretty good scorer, pretty good size, weak skater. I'm not sure about his development into an NHL player though. And what legit sources (McKenzie retracted his statement) said that we were after Tangradi anyways?

I'm not ecstatic with the return and we'll see how the rest of the market is dictated by this deal, but it's not a really a bad return either. I'm really not sure about what Caputi will develop into, but I hope he gets a chance to show his stuff with the big club for the next 20 games.

First deal of the day: Derek Morris to Phoenix, not sure what's heading back to Boston

Leafs get a 2010 5th rounder for Skoula, so the deal ends up being Ponikarovsky for Caputi and a 2010 5th Rounder (NJ).

Seidenberg to the Bruins for a package including a 2nd rounder and Byron Bitz.

Edit: McKenzie says the deal is -

Full deal: Boston acquires Seidenberg and Bartowski from Fla for Craig Weller, Byron Bitz and a 2nd round pick.

I don't know what Chiarelli is doing. The sad part is, he doesn't know what he is even doing. He's like a chicken running around with his head cut off. I think he's just making noise to make noise.

Carolina trades Scott Walker to Washington, unsure of return.

This means Ray Whitney is very likely not moving.

Looks like the biggest deal of the day (unless somehow Kaberle moves) is about to go down, possibly including Wolski, Mueller and a few other pieces.

Phoenix about to send Peter Mueller and Kevin Porter to Colorado for Wolski, per McKenzie.
