What exactly makes you feel like DJ is a PG instead of a SG?

He's never shown the ability to create and get others involved at a high level. Last season his game was dropping 3's and getting to the line at a high rate. He can't do that this year and I don't know what he changed.

But never has he shown the ability to be a quality distributor or creator. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, that's just not his game. His offense is really what we need anyway. Even if he makes a great penetration and pass to Boris for example, it's just getting passed up or bricked anyway.

He's definitely had good assist nights. Consistency is a huge issue, but we've been there before.

Watching him for two years at Texas and even with what he did as a starter last year with us.

He can put the ball in the right place at the right time.

Even in the 1 game he has started this season and played 40 mins he racked up 7 assists.

AND only the 1 turn over!

In retrospect DJ shooting the ball so well last season might be the worst thing that could have happened for him.

How do you figure LB is trying to turn him into a SG? He always comes in to relieve Felton at point, and up til Flip was traded he seldom played with Felton.

His last year at Texas he averaged 14.5 FGA per game...that's a LOT. Just looking thru a list of PGs' college lines (Paul, Williams, Magic) none even came close to that...most well under 100 shots for the season.

After we drafted DJ I caught 3 Texas' games on ESPN Classic (or U) which was in his last season and right before the NCAA tournament, and Barnes played him off the ball a lot during those games. Why would that be different than pairing him with Felton as the main shooter now?

Going from that last season him shooting the ball shouldn't be an issue.

Because LB has said over and over and over again that he is begging DJ to shoot. He wants DJ to shoot more.

In his last year at Texas there was him and Abrams - and that was pretty much it. Texas had nothing else on the roster.

While averaging 14.5 fga's per game, he also averaged 5.8 assists and played 37.3mpg. He pretty much did it all.

I would be reluctant to base judgement on 3 college games.

If we were doing that I would suggest watching the Stanford game when he smoked the Lopez boys?

So you're saying Barnes didn't play DJ off the ball except in that small 3 game sample?

Because LB has said over and over and over again that he is begging DJ to shoot. He wants DJ to shoot more.

What's different between then and now? We also need him to shoot.

Regardless of whether DJ "had to" shoot that last year in Texas it seems he succeeded pretty well in doing it. Why is it so detrimental to DJ for him to "have to" shoot now?

I just don't see the difference in what LB's asking for now & Barnes did then.

BTW...I never said he was a SG. However, anyone who dominates the ball like that should be getting assists as they're the primary focus. When you're taking 14.5 FGA per game I'd say that was the case.
