Time to change starting lineup

Post#1 » by HolyToledo » Wed Mar 3, 2010 5:04 pm

The Jazz have been getting inconsistent play in the first quarter of games. Matthews has been average at best as a starter. Memo has not been consistent. I would change the starting lineup as follows.

PG Williams
SG Korver (you can hide him on D by putting AK-47 on better offensive player)
C Boozer
PF Millsap
SF AK-47

Millsap's and AK-47's energy should help as DWILL usually comes out slow then heats up as the game progresses.
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

While I'm not opposed to starting Korver...I actually like having Matthews in there. It reminds the team as a whole that the coach will reward hard work in practice and games (if Sloan is consistent) and also a guy like Matthews provides energy for more established players to feed off. Ive always felt great teams have that balance of start power with role players. Not every starting 5 needs to be your best 5 players....

I like having Korver in the starting lineup because Deron, Matthews and AK are really inconsistant with their jumpshots. Mostly Matthews and AK, but Deron seems to have a confidence problem every once in a while. I think it's important that our offense starts well, especially on road games. We saw against the Clips what can happen when we struggle to start the game. Korver not only is a better shooter than Matthews, but he's also a much bigger threat from the outside. He gives us a lot more room to operate inside.

That's who'd be doing it anyways, since Memo would get one of the 2 anyways.

I don't know if this starting lineup would change anything though... this is basically the current end of the game line up.

I would start Korver over Mathews. I think Mathews athleticism matches better with Ronnie Price and Korver would open up the game and get our bigs started off right at the beginning of the game.

Sloan will never bench Memo in favor of this idea.

It would leave the team without a traditional PF for backup. I don't want Memo or AK to regularly play PF. It's fine for matchups here and there but it's not a long term solution.

I'm not opposed to this because I like the potential mismatches AK, Millsap and Boozer create when they are playing together.

It's hard to imagine Memo getting any worse so moving him to the bench probably couldn't hurt.

Though I would keep Matthews in the starting line up. Having 4 good defensive players in the line up to start really sets the for how the night is going to be played.

No need to change the starting lineup really, just change the approach. Stop settling for perimeter jumpers and focus on pushing the ball inside.
