Jackson Calls Gasol 'Weak And Sickly'

Post#1 » by TonyMontana » Sat Mar 6, 2010 4:53 pm

We all know Phil doesnt have any problems speaking his mind and now its obvious he has a problem with Paus inablility to play strong against tougher opponents. I believe he is right.

Pau knows his place is in the low post, and he nails himself there accordingly. He's a good finisher in the post with his hook shots from either hand left or right and that causes a lot of problems for his defenders, he has great and at times excelllent footwork that resembles to players like Hakeem, ZO D Robinson etc, he has a few good postup moves and he can get to the foul line and he can hit his foul shots. Pau's offense is complete for a big man. Pau is a willing and extremely capable passer from the post, and he compliments this with high post and hi face up games. Offensively, he's about as complete as you'll find in the NBA big men today. AND one major thing that a lot of big men lack today is that he has a pretty nice 15 footer shot that is very hard to defend.

BUT When it comes to defense Pau seriouslly sucks and he is slow not too slow but slow and he gets man handled by stronger centers. I dont know if its me but I believe he has become a lot slower than he used to be before his injuries. I personally think his defense sucks. He does have size and has good shot blocking ability but he hardly uses it. I believe he has a very limited defense and his help defense isnt that great specially with Bynum on the court. One of the things I hate about his D is that he doesn't slide over too well.

Whats odd is that he kills the offensive rebounds, but on defense he is very average and he lacks the heart and effort when it comes to defensive rebounding. I think despite being one of the game's best offensive rebounders, he lacks it on the other end. I think thats where he is being labeled as SOFT.

He has been speaking out about his limited touches and having to be the second option but how about trying to play some better D for crying out loud. Me personally dont think Pau will change, he has been in the league too long and if he felt that his softness was a problem then I think by now he would've adapated and would've changed his game but if he hasnt done that yet then I dobut me or anyone else will see a big change in the near future.

Is Phil right? Or are we expecting too much out of Pau?

Lakers forward Pau Gasol has struggled in the team's last two defeats, something that hasn't been lost on coach Phil Jackson.

"I really don't like to talk about that aspect of a person's game ... other than the fact that he's been weak and sickly," Jackson said Friday night.

Gasol, who is averaging 17.0 points and 11.1 rebounds this season, averaged 10.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in the two losses.

When asked to elaborate, Jackson said that Gasol has been feeling "under the weather" and he will have to monitor the All-Star's playing time.

"I'll start to work the bench a little more and see if I can't spell some minutes for these guys," Jackson said.

Looks like Pau is hitting a wall. All that non-stop time on the court is catching up to him.

Pau is great, but he isn't great against bigger players like Shaq, but that's not the problem. Problem is Laks starting pg is 35 years old and that Lamar should be starting, like how they won the Championship.

He's been playing like a wuss for a long time now, it couldn't have been because he is sick the whole time.

I hope he is really sick because, whether he's sick or not, Phil Jackson is right on:

Sure I did Snaq,

When asked to elaborate, Jackson said that Gasol has been feeling "under the weather" and he will have to monitor the All-Star's playing time.

BUT we all know Phil too well and he doesnt have any problems speaking his mind.

I know if he ment to address Paus ill then he would've came out and said he is ill yet everybody knows how Phil has a way of getting in peoples head including his own players and its obvious he has a problem with Paus inablility to play strong against tougher opponents since he used the term weak and sickly. Maybe its just me but he could've simply said he is "ill" initially. :dontknow:

I'm really starting to think that the people who say "he ain't soft" are dealing with their own insecurities on being soft.

No disrespect but EVERYONE in the league, out of the league, and the guys on Neptune too can see that he is soft. Why is that some guys can't admit it.

Look, I like Gaso,l he is Duncan-like and can be very poetic in his movements like Jordan but I have no problem admitting that he is soft and then turning around and rooting for the dude. We're not going to come to your house and skin your back if you admit it.

We'll just respect you more. That's all.

I lived in Germany when I was stationed out there while serving in the US Army as well as when I was young and moved around a lot in parts of England Italy and Spain.

On that note I have never IN MY LIFE met any European that wasnt soft. Now Im not saying everyone from Europe is a wuss and please dont flame on me but for the most part most europeans are soft, and Pau is one of those softies.

Look guys, we can give him the sick excuse all he wants. Sure, but for for some making close to 20 MILLION A YEAR and WANTING A LEADERSHIP ROLE and WANTING TO BE MORE INVOLVED IN THE OFFENSE, you can't make excuses like a sore throat and feeling under the weather.

Answer me one thing: Where would we be today if Kobe was a bitch like Pau????????????

Thank you Thank you Thank you.

It's really pretty simple. Last year, was an abberation. Over the course of time though, he is soft as butter. It's really that simple. If this team didn't have Kobe for a tone setter, we would be **** in the long run

To Tony, Manu doesn't seem soft to me, Scola doesn't seem soft and Marc Gasol doesn't seem as soft as his brother (also remember Sarunas Marciliunus for the Warrios back in the day -- hard as hell).

I hear your point though.

I just think Gasol needs to gain some Elden Campbell weight. When Elden came into the league he was 6'11, 210 soakin wet. When he retired he was pushing 250.

Gasol needs about 10 pounds of muscle. He is soft to me because he just doesn't like contact.

Muscle solves that problem. No more summer games for him; strictly weight room for Pau.

Bynum's MENTALITY is not any more physical than Gasol's but the fact that he acutually has more weight on him makes him a little less soft.

This would never have happened to Bynum .... NEVER:
