This seems so strange seeing that the name of the threadmaker who got waived was "Illuminati" and my name is.... well, you be the judge of that strange coincidence, but any-who...

I'd have to pick Blatche in the long run, over Barg without a doubt. Barg is not confident, and just won't hang with the big boys the way Blatche can. It's all about mental toughness and the latter doesn't seem to get it.

Blatche has now played in 10 games after the Jamison trade so we can start looking at per-game averages instead of per-minute extrapolations.

Code: Select all

Per game numbers over last 10 games:
Player           PTS  REB  AST  STL  BLK   TO eFG%  TS%  MIN
blatche,andray  24.0 10.6  3.1  1.3  1.2  3.4 .539 .570 38.4
bargnani,andrea 14.8  5.5  1.2  0.2  1.4  1.2 .471 .497 35.9

Pace-adjusted per 36-minute numbers over the last 10 games:
Player           PTS  REB  AST  STL  BLK   TO eFG%  TS%  PER
blatche,andray  23.0 10.2  3.0  1.2  1.1  3.3 .539 .570 22.9
bargnani,andrea 14.9  5.6  1.2  0.2  1.4  1.2 .471 .497 12.1

His numbers have come back down to Earth a bit after a ridiculously good start, but they're still pretty darn good. That said, there are some long term concerns with his scoring efficiency because he doesn't get to the line much. He needs to work on that in the offseason so he can get through periods when his jumper isn't falling. I don't see him maintaining that .570 TS% when he is averaging just 4.7 FTA's in 38 minutes per game.

As luck would have it, Bargnani has now played 7 games as the #1 option after Bosh's injury so we have a pretty decent apples-to-apples comparison. Bargnani has proven to be pretty effective as an efficient second-option scorer, but he is struggling on offense as the primary option without Bosh around. His efficiency has dropped quite a bit, but more significantly, he is having trouble getting shot attempts at all. FWIW, both teams are 4-6 over the past 10 games.

Here are the season numbers:

Code: Select all

Per game numbers over the season:
Player           PTS  REB  AST  STL  BLK   TO eFG%  TS%  MIN
blatche,andray  11.5  5.9  1.5  0.8  1.0  1.8 .497 .531 24.6
bargnani,andrea 17.2  6.1  1.1  0.3  1.4  1.5 .524 .554 34.7

Pace-adjusted per 36-minute numbers over the season:
Player           PTS  REB  AST  STL  BLK   TO eFG%  TS%  PER
blatche,andray  17.0  8.8  2.2  1.3  1.4  2.7 .497 .531 17.3
bargnani,andrea 17.7  6.3  1.1  0.3  1.5  1.5 .524 .554 15.6

This is a bull (not you, but the report that came out). I heard the audio of Blatche's comments. He didn't sound sad or "on the verge of tears" like the report says. He sounded pissed. And he OUTPLAYED Garnott by a large margin. No, he shouldn't have fell for the stupid **** tactics by KG, but I didn't get the impression that he was holding back tears in the press conference. What horrid reporting by the Post on the matter (no surprise).

The list of big men that Blatche has not destroyed is quickly dwindling. Your favorite big man is going to be taken out next..

Blatche is having a rough March. In 4 games he's averaged 18/8 on .46 TS% (18 FGA/game), with 3.8 TOs

Yet Bargnani's been worse. I like what Blatche has been doing leading the Wizards.

He's been forcing shots and getting doubled. He's not used to being the focal point of the offense yet. He's still playing better than Bargnani though.

Lol Dray closing in on Bargs 137-135. He was trailing by about 30+ votes a week ago.

True. And it doesn't surprise me. Teams are loading up on him now. The loss of Josh Howard really hurt. The entire offense is Blatche, Thornton, and Foye. And Thornton and Foye are streaky as hell.

One other problem is that the guard play is so bad that Blatche NEVER gets any easy buckets. In the course of game, he gets literally no drive-and-dish layups from the point guard. And there is never any dribble penetration that forces other bigs to help out so that Blatche can get a cheap offensive rebound.

But ultimately, Blatche needs to figure out how to draw contact and get to the free throw line. I think it's something he'll work on in the summer.

Bargnani needs to be able to step up and command the ball at times, I hate how he doesn't do that. It's like Rose early in the year being so passive and unwilling to take over, and look at him now.

Bargnani will never be a good rebounder, but he could be a good scorer; just isn't working at that. You'd think with the games Bosh was out he'd step up, but instead he went backwards.

This team is so frustrating. :(

Blatche producing well for that long is a good sign... he was never going to keep that up forever, but he's probably the best non-rookie contract in the league.

He has only started 15 games this year because Jamison was ahead of him...he averages 8.6 rebounds per 36 minutes which isn't terrible for a PF. And since he has been starting he has been averaging over 9 rpg.
