Hmm, that's interesting.

I heard his say that as well but I didn't hear him say players said it....makes some sense because Kampman was always a good locker room guy but Wilde heard rumblings not so much last year.....although I know when Kampman went town he worked a lot with Brad Jones......Maybe Kampman did not warm up to Greene.

On the field -- a few of us mentioned this earlier but when the JS did a study of the Packers' performances (or did they just take the Packer reports?), Kampmann actually graded out well for the pressure he created.

That said, he's coming off a big injury and I still don't think from watching all the games his impact was as big as some of those numbers might suggest. And the big thing is that he always got absolutely worked when having to cover. Getting a 3rd would be nice and some sort of compensation last year in a trade would have been cool but I'm glad that we've at least got 1 pro bowl end, 1 that might improve into something nice, and the ability to maybe sign a stop-gap like Porter or find a gem somewhere in the draft.

To me, OLB is somewhat of a need given that I like Jones maybe being in the mix but don't want to count on him, but I don't have any worries about it. Save from an injury, I know we'll get the side opposite of Clay figured out.

We need a stud on the other side from Clay or every team will do what AZ did in the playoffs. Concentrate on neutralizing him.

Kampman was always a favorite of mine because of his work ethic and his selflessness. In a era where pro athletes voice their displeasure with being put in a bad spot for the benefit of the team, Kampman kept his mouth shut and played hard every second he was here. I wish him well with the Jags (another team I like, though no where near my love for the Pack).

With that said he wasn't a good fit and it's too bad we didn't move him last year for top compensation.
Jerry Hughes is the answer on the outside for the Pack in this draft.

Yep. This article says the same thing and it is spot on:

Pass rush makes the secondary, not vice versa. OLB is very high on this teams priority list, if not #1 (at least short-term) with the re-signing of Clifton. I would love for Graham or Kindle to fall to us. I probably wouldn't take Witherspoon at 23, but it sounds like he is going to go late 1st now.

Weird signing though, Jax sucks. One (potentially) good pass rusher (coming off a major injury) shouldn't change their fate too much...

At least he didn't go to Detroit. Hope he does well, too bad it didn't work out here since he's been one of our top performers the last decade

He's not a stand up defensive player IMO. So I'm fine with getting rid of him, what I'm not fine with is getting nothing, potentially, in return for him. We should have traded him for draft picks or something. I hope we can get that 3rd rounder trw posted, a 3rd rounder is better than nothing I guess.

I was puzzled when it obviously wasn't working out before the deadline, why we didn't move him. I don't think Thompson would have argued that he was part of the long-term plan, and with his love for draft picks, I am surprised that he wasn't moved as well...

Trades don't happen often during the season. Once it started I figured he was here for good. As has been referenced before, McGinn's numbers showed he actually got good pressure on the QB and his play picked up noticeably once they started using more four lineman formations.

A source close to the situation is reporting that the Pack gave Kampman a similar offer but he preferred going to a team with rich history and a rabid passionate fan base. Even though he loved the 3-4, he looks forward to playing in front of sellout crowds.

Sucks that we didn't get anything for him...but the deal isn't quite done yet, or is it?

The deal is official, Kampman is a Jaguar.

He is worth more to the Jags than he is to us, he knows this, we know it... too bad he had to be a casualty of the system change... nonetheless, I wasn't impressed that much by a lot of things he did last year...
