Why for NYK:gets an extra 5.2 m cap room in 2010,legitmately a two max player team.
Why for the Cats:Save 10m long term, but likely has to pay back immediately in the coming season's tax threshold, but will have loads of cap room in 2011 and after.

Re: Diop/2nd for McCurry?
it's not such a bad proposal. 2011 is when we're aiming to have all kinds of cap room anyway. I'm too lazy to look at the contracts, but when does each of theirs end?

I assume this is after the season, but regardless we are in no position to eat another 5.2 million next year when we're already looking at pushing past the LT if we want to sign our own FAs.
If anything we need to be figuring out how to lose salary next season.

I'm with Spectre. I want to make sure we are in a position to offer Felts and T2 fair contracts before we go looking at deals like this one.

NY wouldn't do it and I don't want us to give away another pick

Doesn't it not work cap wise?

Re: Diop/2nd for McCurry?
The Bobcats would have to be under the cap, significantly, to be able to absorb the difference from Diop to Mayor McCheese. So this trade really couldn't happen until the team unloaded someone.
So for instance, they would have to find a team willing to absorb Nazr Mohammeds' contract for a 2nd round pick that will most likely never come to be (see: theo ratliff trade).
Plus, then the Knicks would have to do this. From all they have done since Walsh took over and with D'Antoni being their coach, I just can't see this happening.

If Nazr comes back and finishes this season nicely, he should be easily trade-able this summer. Not so sure about Chandler, but that's a sweet expiring.
Humble yourself.

it's actually quite amazing Walsh was able to come in there, undo what Isiah did and actually have cap space to work with all in what, 2 years? I commend the guy, that is a hell of a GM. The Knicks will be good as soon as next year.

Unless all the big name FA's (LBJ, Bosh, Wade, JJ etc) stay with their respective teams or all go to other teams other than NYC and the Knicks end up dial out max deals to guys like Ray Allen or Rudy Gay!

But on what expense? Draft picks are gone and young talent almost with that too.

Do Knicks have some draft picks left actually? Well if this can get us another Theo in the future...

Re: Diop/2nd for McCurry?
They, for the time being, still hold onto a decent amount of talent. David Lee, Wilson Chandler, Danillo Gallinari, Sergio Rodriguez, and Tracy McGrady.
But in all honesty, they needed to do something aggressive to clean up that mess. Their whole goal is the offseason. You consider where they were when Walsh took over, its really fairly impressive.
And not to make light of it, but Isiah got them where they were (when Walsh took over) by trading away draft picks as well. So at least they have that going for them.
