An off-season idea if we can't get an elite FA.

If we can't get Wade, Lebron or Joe Johnson, our best bet is Rudy Gay. But then we have to fill our roster with cheaper bench players and Gay is not that good to cover that.

Now I have this idea where;

we have $33,5mil committed for next year. + our draft pick holds around $2,9mil cap space.

I say we sign Gooden, Butler, Blake and Outlaw each to 4years $20mil. $5mil/year or even higher.
Now we are over the cap room and have right to get MLE and Bi-annual exception.

S&T Outlaw ($5mil) + our this years draft pick ($2.9mil) for S&T Rudy Gay to Memphis 5 year $50mil.
(or 5 year $55mil then Outlaw gets 4 year $24mil.

Sign Mike Miller or go after Ginobili, Korver, matt Barnes or even T-Mac to MLE.

Now our line-up is

Baron/Blake
Gordon/Butler
Gay/Miller(?)
Griffin/Gooden
Kaman/Jordan

use Bi-annual exception to sign a reliable PF-C.

And with a good coach like Van Gundy or Bryon Scott this team could be top 4 in the west. If everyone stays healthy that is.

What do you guys think? Possible?

I like Rudy Gay but he'll want more. I think he turned that deal down from Memphis earlier this year. I'm guessing a team like Minny will throw more $ at him.

If we don't sign LeBron or Wade, we should try to sign and trade Kaman for Bosh and have him play C. Then, try to get Ginobili or TMAC.

After that, resign everyone except Collins and Skinner.

Baron/Blake
Gordon/Ginobili?/draft pick
Butler/Outlaw/TMAC?
Griffin/Gooden/Smith
Bosh/Jordan/FA

Bosh doesnt like playing C. therefore he won't wanna come to us. Also I'm sure he'll prefer to go Houston or Dallas rather than coming to us.
Amare maybe but Suns wouldn't want Kaman with Frye and Lopez on board.

I really hope we have a good off-season. I don't want us to waste our money and overpay Rudy Gay. IMO, we need a "glue" player at the SF spot, allowing Baron / Gordon / Blake / Kaman to do the scoring. Does Rudy even know how to pass the ball?!

I love the idea of upgrading Kaman for either Bosh or Amare. Since there are very few real centers in the league, either one could do the job. It would cost us a pick at least though.

I don't want to overpay for Rudy Gay either. I like him, but he's no superstar.

You forgot Craig Smith in the original list, we have to keep him.

Will the clippers go after wade? I mean what would become of EJ? if you put him on the bench i'm pretty sure that's gonna effect his development as a player

If they can't sign LBJ, J.J. or Rudy Gay then just blow up the roster and rebuild. I'm more interested in a high draft pick and figuring it out from there. Right now the Clippers have won 4 games since trading Camby if I'm not mistaken? This team is full of quitters.

+1. I'd like to see us trade Kaman while his value is high. Maybe we can try and sign someone like Ronnie Brewer at SF and keep Outlaw off the bench?

If we go after Dwade, we have to trade baron. It will be hard but maybe we can trade him for another bad contract that fills our needs. Someone like Philly can use a legit PG. Maybe iggy or dalembert/pick for baron.

EJ would have to go if we acquired Wade or Joe instead of Lebron.

If we can get Wade then I'd be down trading EJ along with Baron for someone like Iguodala or Granger.

A year ago, I thought that Joe Johnson should be the guy that we make a strong play for. Now, I'm not so sure. If we sign a max player, our bench will be paper thin. I can deal with a paper thin bench if it were LeBron or even Wade, but not for Joe Johnson or Gay. Especially not Gay. We have our work cut out for us and it is going to require some savvy thinking. A couple weeks ago I would have just kept the players that we presently have. With the way we're playing, I have my doubts about that. Still, Butler and Blake are 2 that I would definitely want back if at all possible. I'm on the fence about the others.

Johnson can play the 3.

Bringing in T - Mac would be horrible...

If the Clippers can't bring in a top level FA, they are better off saving cap room for the following season than just signing a bunch of guys to say they signed guys.

I think it's LeBron, Wade, Bosh, Joe Johnson, or bust...

I'm warming to the idea of signing Amare or Bosh then trading Kaman for a legit SF who can play defense, move the ball and shoot 3s. How big or terrible the contract is I don't care.

How about this; if we strike out even on Gay and if Celtics want to rebuild.
assume Salary cap is $55mil and we have $33mil committed next year. + draft pick. (8-10)
Get Paul Pierce for TPE + a 1st draft pick.
Trade Kaman to SAC for Spencer Hawes + a 1st round pick
We would still have $9mil to resign Butler and Blake.
Next year we would still have Space for a max and could try our chance on Carmelo since Pierce would be expiring .

Our Roster would be
Baron/Blake
EJ/Butler
Pierce/Butler
Griffin/draft pick
Hawes/Jordan
