It's not about trying to "know" more than anybody. But I know this Byron can coach.....since everybody is such an expert all of a sudden, please explain in detail why Byron isn't a good coach ?

I didn't say he was the next best thing since slice bread, but the man took the Nets to the Finals twice and it wasn't like he had the weapons Phil has. All I'm saying is I would prefer Byron over some retread that doesn't know about the tradition of the Lakers like B does.

deep, i am not disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing, byron is a good coach, but a ticking timebomb also...look i grew up with showtime just like you did, and i love byron like i love cap worthy rambis, magic hell even sven, but there is a scary history with byron and the way he has gone out with his two head coaching gigs...that doesnt throw up a massive red flag to you? i mean we arent talking about sub .500 teams , finals and deep playoff contenders with bonafide nba stars in both situations. dude still got run out of town like a leper... something is wrong there, and we dont need another drama king, we gots plenty already.

also, this aint the 80's. right or wrong these nba players are too entiltled and they will tune his **** out eventually. i could be wrong, though i doubt it in this case.

those nets finals teams came out the worst ec ever btw. didnt like half the ec playoffs those years have sub .500 records?

and he is a good coach, but i think he would be a great college coach, because just at the time the players are getting sick of they are defecting to the nba or graduating, plus he is a hard nosed type, and pro's tune that out a lot quicker than college kids

ok he took the nets to the finals....but the east was real weak during those times....they had what 50 wins? and were top of the standings, cleveland has 50 wins with liek 17 more games left to play...

he couldnt make in game adjustments..he had players quit on him several times...jason kidd didnt really like him......at least with phil, he knows how to put people in their place...if byron was coach..he would let kobe call 100% of teh calls..that wouldnt slid well with pau and bynum

Hunter I agree with you on some issues you bring up. Yes he was trucked out of town in his last two gigs. First let's start with Jersey, we all know Hunter that Jason Kidd was the chief responsible for that. And in New Orleans his players except CP3 quit on him.

Now the difference with both those franchises is one common denominator.........they have terrible ownership, terrible GM's and terrible fan bases. No support was there at all. And yes his trips to the Finals were byproducts of a weak ass Eastern Conference no doubt about that.

So bottom line for me is I look at the structure of those teams, from ownership to front office to players. It could be a different story here is all I'm saying. If not him then all we get is either a retread or an inexperience guy such as B.Shaw........and truth is we won't be winning consistently if that happens, bank on it.

id rather have jeff van gundy over scott.

scott is a decent coach...gundy is a better one..he doesnt take **** from his players (eg steve francis)
one would let the players know hes in charge, the other would tell kobe to run the team.

Brian Shaw should be Phil's successor IMHO although I do think Scott would do a great job. Just Shaw has been here for years and knows the triangle well.

Greg Popovich. I know he wants to retire after the San Antonio gig but surely he must consider coaching a team as loaded as this one.

I'm firmly against control freak coaches like Byron Scott, Skiles, Larry Brown and Avery. They run a team well for an year or two and then have players quit on them and get thrown out pretty easily. They wouldn't last 2 weeks in a Lakers dressing room.
