ye zilbs... 3-0 win.

Romero, 4 shutout innings. 2 Hits. However 4 walks and struggled a little. 29 strikes 31 balls. Got out of jams with a couple double plays and got the job done though.

Romero has looked amazing thus far in the Spring. Obviously Spring success does not, by any stretch of the imagination, mean that regular seasn success is guaranteed but it is certainly a step in the right direction.

I have a feeling this team is going to be very interesting to watch. There are no expectations on them really and there is a lot of solid young talent to wacth grow this year. I also have a feeling that we will surprise some people this year. Especially if McGowan and Marum bounce back to their old form.

Jays win 13-3, John Buck and Travis Snider with 2HR each.

Romero pitched 5 inning and gave 2 runs. Anyone know how he looked out there?

No clue, but he had 10 groundouts to no flyouts which is a real good sign his sinker is working. He also had a great ratio in his last outing.

Romero's groundball and strike out rate in ST have been very encouraging. Too many walks though. If he can maintain a strong groundball tendency while still missing bats moving forward, he might be able to be a lot better than many (me included) ever imagined he could be.

Brandon Morrow was apparently scratched from his ST start today because of a sore shoulder.

I hate to press the panic button too soon, but uh oh.

If he can keep his GB% over 50, and have a K/BB near 2.00, he should be fine as a #3 type pitcher going forward.

Are we caring about this? I thought this season was supposed to be written off anyway? Aren't we all going into this season just looking to see promise for the future?

Romero's ground out rate has been great. The walks will be forgiven thanks to double plays if he keeps it up.

I don't know where you got the idea that "uh oh" had anything to do with the Jays 2010 season when I (and most) predict about 65-70 wins for this team whether Morrow is contributing or not. My concern is with Morrow's shoulder soreness. I mean, this might just be normal soreness for him and he may come out of it with some rest, who knows, but any time the shoulder is involved for a pitcher it's not good. The Jays can't afford to lose guys with upside. If Dana Eveland was scratched, who cares? Morrow? That's a potential problem if it reoccurs.

yeah. guys like Morrow are pitching today to be possible 1 or 2 starters in a few years.
you scratch this season and he's still a prospect.
he pitches this season, wins 10 games and has an ERA of 4? that's progress.

Why can't they just return him to the BP?? He had three successful seasons as a relief guy, and was terrible last year.. I just don't get it.

Yep, Tallet has shown instability in spring this year and his track record from last year is not a good indicator. Long relief would suit him better.

My vote is for Eveland to have the 5th spot but for some reason, Cito seems to have him filling Tallet's role (long relief). Eveland's ERA is 0.75 thus far in the spring and he has a history of some success as a starter with Oakland. Of course, he could also turn out to be dissapointing but he has at least earned the nod over Tallet this spring.

I do kinda see how difficult it is for Cito. Tallet was marvelous in his last outing, but his era is now 7.36!

Oddest stat from Spring Training: Aaron Hill now has walks in 10 of his 30 plate appearances. He had just 42 in 734 PAs last year. Could be nothing more than the result of facing pitchers who are still trying to work out their mechanics, but if Hill can get on base at a .350-.360 clip, he's a pretty sexy beast.
